worldwide angel Posted December 23, 2019 Author Posted December 23, 2019 NUMBER TEN IS THIS DEBUT ALBUM FROM A POPULAR FEMALE ARTIST #10 - OVER IT - SUMMER WALKER albeit a bit long, summer walker's over is a cohesive, murky debut which deserved the hype and first week numbers it got. summer does a great job of being authentic through her music as well as appealing to the common r&b/hip-hop listeners with her impressive features but remains true to herself. summer sounds...well like summer, whereas other artists find themselves in a box. i really wish her nothing but the best and would like to thank her for this amazing debut. personal favorites: over it, potential
worldwide angel Posted December 23, 2019 Author Posted December 23, 2019 NUMBER NINE REALLY SHOULD BE HIGHER BUT THERE ARE JUST BETTER AND MORE INTERESTING ALBUMS #9 - HOT PINK - DOJA CAT the audacity of some of you to say that you think amala is the better record not only is hot pink consistently good, its also the more interesting, versatile and more importantly focused record. the only downside really is having #him as a producer on some of the songs. despite that, doja really proved to be more than a meme but not catering to the masses. personal favorites: shine, streets, better than me
TheWayWeWere Posted December 24, 2019 Posted December 24, 2019 Doja Cat nice girl, I hope she finds success like Cardi
ATRL Moderator madonnas Posted December 24, 2019 ATRL Moderator Posted December 24, 2019 Only Doja song I’ve heard is Moo still

worldwide angel Posted December 30, 2019 Author Posted December 30, 2019 NUMBER EIGHT GOES TO ONE OF THE GREATEST RECORDS RELEASED THIS YEAR #8 - TITANIC RISING - WEYES BLOOD weyes blood's fourth album made a splash in the music community online, one review comparing it to the works of joni mitchell with production that definitely calls to the past but with something more modern. what really makes this album different for me is the exceptional lyrics and topics it covers the inevitable changes that come in life as well as dating in the twenty-first century.
worldwide angel Posted December 30, 2019 Author Posted December 30, 2019 NUMBER SEVEN...I CAN'T BELIEVE THE GIRLS SLEPT ON NUMBER SEVEN #7 - BLOOD - KELSEY LU this is probably one of the best if not the best debut album to have dropped this year... the raw instrumentation and her lush vocals are to die for. bops like "due west" and soty contenders like "atlantic" and "foreign car" are more than enough to prove why this slept on debut is one of the ten best albums of the year.
worldwide angel Posted December 30, 2019 Author Posted December 30, 2019 NUMBER SIX IS NOT AS BAD AS EVERYONE MADE IT OUT TO BE #6 - CHARLI - CHARLI XCX despite the two gp-friendly singles, charli returns with her highly anticipated self titled album. i actually enjoy the album still and it might be her best album . i feel like the album title sums up the record well. charli does what we know charli for: the pc music influenced production, the myriad of features but charli also lets us in on her personal life which i for one really appreciated. songs like "sliver cross" tell of her loyalty to her friends, "i don't wanna know" is one of the many great call backs to true romance era charli and we get sappy romantic charli with "official". i guess i really like getting to know charli past her social presence which is...there all right.
worldwide angel Posted December 30, 2019 Author Posted December 30, 2019 NUMBER FIVE WILL BE A SOURCE OF INSPIRATION FOR A LOT OF YET TO BE DEBUTS #5 - WHEN I GET HOME - SOLANGE solange really came swinging with this masterpiece and may have invented and if not popularized a new genre. with a drive to pay homage to her hometown and her blackness, this album results in one of the richest experiences that a person could have in 2019. "when i get home" should be a reminder to some that maybe "simplicity is key"...or at least what seems to be simplicity to several listeners.
worldwide angel Posted December 30, 2019 Author Posted December 30, 2019 NUMBER FOUR IS A TESTAMENT TO THIS ARTIST'S POTENTIAL WHEN NO LONGER TETHERED TO THE CLUTCHES OF A MAJOR LABEL #4 - SONGSFORYOU - TINASHE after getting out of that excuse of a label, tinashe took eighteen months to tease, go silent and tease some more before releasing one of the best projects of the year. she showcases versatility by going from synthpop ("perfect crime" and "save room for us") to the trademark alternative r&b we all know and love her for with "life's too short" and "so much better", sprinkling in trap gold with grits like "cash race" and "link up". i can say much more about this record but i'll leave this review with wise words... tinashe always wins
worldwide angel Posted December 30, 2019 Author Posted December 30, 2019 NUMBER THREE IS A TESTAMENTS TO THIS ARTIST'S GROWTH #3 - NORMAN F***ING ROCKWELL - LANA DEL REY lana del rey returns with what may be her best album yet. with one of the messiest releases in recent memory, lana doesn't fail to deliver a cohesive project with exceptional lyricism and a sound that only highlights her vocals. the strongest aspect of the album for me would be the narrative: presenting a mature woman who acknowledges that her relationship may not be the best but they are still drawn towards one another. norman ****ing rockwell is for sure one of the best albums of 2019 and possibly, this decade.
worldwide angel Posted December 30, 2019 Author Posted December 30, 2019 NUMBER TWO IS THIS ALBUM FROM ATRL'S FAVORITE MEMEPG #2 - THANK U, NEXT - ARIANA GRANDE while not as interesting as sweetener, the production holds up well on this record, the real 'star' of the album is the narrative. reflecting on years of tragedies and a whirlpool of emotions, grande does what an artist does at times like this: expresses her thoughts more explicitly in comparison to her last LP, 'sweetener'. instead of expressing her sadness in situations as so, grande takes it to the next step: critiquing the actions of those around her, the media but most importantly, herself. the accountability that grande shows: examining her flaws and rationalizing them, accrediting said flaws to explain why her relationships fall through and doubling on the introspection that she dabbled in with sweetener, all of those components are what really makes this album exceptional.
worldwide angel Posted December 30, 2019 Author Posted December 30, 2019 NUMBER ONE NEEDS NO EXPLANATION. #1 - MAGDALENE - FKA TWIGS i am personally so proud of twigs for her journey as well as her growth, clearly displayed throughout the album: lyricism, production, vocals as well as the visual aspect of the album. songs like “home with you” explore the devastating aspects of a relationship: how partners view themselves and each other, the lack of communication, the self discovery. the heart shattering “mirrored heart” might just well be the most tear jerking track on the album: the thought of comparing relationships, that are or seem sustainable to your faltering romance, coming to the conclusion that the connection between the two of you is broken. with magdalene, twigs evolved into what i like to call a “worldbuilder”, an artist who’s music immerses the listener into their world, the best of them all being bjork in my opinion.
