I'd honestly make this a non-elimination round, having Vulnicura score 0 and everybody else moves forward as a penalty if he doesn't submit since he's a really strong contender and I do think he deserves to go further.

I agree with this.

Maybe carry on with the entries and if he posts his entry then people can have the chance to change their votes, if he doesn't submit then use ihdang2000's suggestion?

OMG this game is still going on. :heart2:

I was checking oldTRL earlier and remembering how much fun was being a part of the first edition! Even with Taylor stans kinda sabotaging me in the final round. :fan:

Wonder how you guys were able to understand my bad grammar at the time, by the way. :dies:

Will be following from now on!

ATRL's original game "Choose The Album, Then a Song" is back for its anticipated ninth season on its original concept.

Well... We took longer this time but I am confident we now reunite all the conditions to meet the remaining entries. Nonetheless, I am also afraid I have some "bad" news to announce (or good depending on the perspective). @Vulnicura has left the game which means we are down to eight contestants. It's sad to see such a strong and committed player leaving the game without notifying us but the remaining ones are still here and fighting to get as far as they can get! Let's review the rules to then meet the entries!

rules.png

1. There's not such thing as bad losers;

We are all here to have fun and share our favorite music with everyone.

2. Every contestant must cast a vote each round;

The main purpose of the game is to introduce everyone to new music. If this rule isn't applied, only the judges will benefit from it.

3. Every entry must contain a written part;

To fully understand your decision, you will be required to send in an essay along with the song chosen.

4. A song can only be used twice and can only be use three rounds after;

This will allow you to explore your album further.

5. Deadlines must be respected by contestants and judges;

There will be three updates weekly: the round presentation, the entries and the results.

6. There's no space for stan wars or called voters;

The main purpose of this game is to introduce everyone to knew music. Therefore, we don't want any fights or any type of voting manipulation.

7. The vote process is build up of two parts;

Every round the judges votes will be mixed with the public votes.

8. Be fair and do not be biased.

If you want others to respect your work and game, make sure you respect others too by not allowing your personal taste affect your votes.

Spoiler
Music focuses on two main things: dance and love. This round does too. We don't need a bunch of synthesizers and electric guitars to dance just like we don't need a sad piano or violin to love. On top of that, no one wants to listen to an album filled with romantic songs or to an album filled with club bangers.

If last round you were supposed to send in songs that were opposed to each others, this round you're supposed to send in two songs that prove the album's diversity by showing us that your artist knows how to love (in any sort of way - heartbreak, passion...) and how to have fun (in any sort of way - clubbing, sex...).

Please send in a love song and a dance song (keeping in mind that each person has their own opinion on what those are) that proves that your artist and album are diverse and explain those choices in no more than 300 words.

1. shelven: Sia - "This Is Acting": 'Move Your Body' || 'Midnight Decisions'

Spoiler

ROUND FIVE: “MOVE YOUR BODY / MIDNIGHT DECISIONS”

As with “journey of emotions” last round, “diversity” is another concept that contributes to a full understanding of acting, as actors must be skilled at portraying a diverse collection of characters throughout their careers. On This Is Acting, Sia accomplishes this with Move Your Body and Midnight Decisions, where she plays two drastically different characters. Move Your Body presents Sia playing the character of a passionate dancer; it’s a role that sharply contrasts with her own personality, but she nonetheless commits to it unquestioningly. The production contains all the staples of a strong dance track: pounding bass in the verses, a rhythmic beat, and a roaring synth-filled chorus. The song’s lyrics are equally committed to the task, describing the feelings that the rhythm and beat evoke while literally commanding the listener to move their body alongside her character. On the opposite end of the acting spectrum, Midnight Decisions has Sia playing a heartbroken romantic, a character that hits much closer to home for her. A midtempo, piano-backed instrumental and a melody set in a minor key accompany a much more emotional role of someone who loses a love that was extremely important to them and copes with this heartbreak by turning to alcohol. It’s a topic that’s all too familiar in Sia’s own life, and it’s obvious she’s drawing on personal experience to portray this character.

            With these songs, This Is Acting not only proves that Sia can portray diverse characters, but also highlights the reality that actors sometimes get to portray characters that have similar traits as them, but at other times must take on roles that greatly differ from who they are as individuals. Once an actor understands this distinction, they gain the potential to master any acting assignment – something that Sia proves she is able to do.

2. MusicLoverDude: Samantha Jade - "Nine": 'Shake That (feat. Pitbull)' || 'What You Want'

Spoiler

With a pop record like Nine, discovering the diversity on this album is a constantly developing journey. This round is no exception. In Round 2, we discovered Samantha's lustful and horny side in "Show Me Love". Her romantic nature becomes more dynamic with "Shake That" and "What You Want". In "Shake That", Samantha fiercely proclaims that she is not a girl that will only be used for just sex, singing on top of an instrumental driven by horns, claps and guitars that will get the listener off their butt and dancing along to the beat, with a Pitbull feature that adds even more flavor to it. You wouldn't be able to say no to dancing to this song. And if a guy can successfully "step up if they wanna get down", then they'll be able to see why Samantha is the way she is because in "What You Want", Samantha is ready to show her man how much she loves him, and make passionate love together. The song is slower and R&B influenced, with Samantha's gentle vocals carrying the song while oozing of sex, but not in a lustful manner like Show Me Love. Instead, her vocals are more intimate and you can tell that is for someone she truly loves. Both of these songs further branch off of the album's overall theme of positivity, and bring in the relationship angle of it. Our journey so far has shown Samantha addressing death, label issues, lustful desires, partying, and now, girl power and romantic intimacy. With 7 topics, three uptempos, two midtempos, and two ballads (so far), Nine's diversity is crystal clear and both of these songs add to that, and ultimately show Samantha can sing about anything.

3. Rihlana: Halsey - "Badlands": 'Roman Holiday' || 'Colors'

Spoiler

As a concept album detailing Halsey’s inner demons, BADLANDS does not house the traditional archetypes of dance or love tracks. However, it does allow Halsey to sing about both her version of love and fun in ways that are not apparently obvious. The two tracks that exemplify BADLANDS as a diverse album are “Roman Holiday” (RH) and “Colors”

“Colors” is a song about loving what used to be. The lyrics discuss Halsey’s lover insidiously losing their vibrancy until she can no longer recognise the person who lies beside her. She utilises chromatic metaphors as an innovative approach to her narrative of lost love, detailing her lover’s eventual regression from a lively blue to lifeless grey. The production is light, allowing the listener to truly focus on the highlight of the song; the lyrics, especially the spoken bridge where Halsey painfully realises that her lover has emotionally abandoned her. “Colors” is still a love track, but an uncustomary one. Halsey does not love what is there, but rather what once was. In contrast, “RH” is the most upbeat song on the album. It deals with themes of liberation and escape. The production is hard-hitting (particularly the chorus) and loud, almost drowning out the vocals. The euphoric production is the highlight as opposed to the lyrics. The listener is supposed to get lost in the flurry of electronica and just escape for a while. It is supremely danceable, with Halsey confidently demanding her lover forgo the shackles of life and just have fun in the moment, enjoying each other’s company on the open road. These tracks unambiguously demonstrate Halsey’s diverse approach to sharing her psyche. BADLANDS is capable of remaining cohesive in its diversity as Halsey moulds her idea of love and fun around her own experiences, however unconventional they may be.

4. theycallmemaraj: Ariana Grande - "Dangerous Woman": 'Moonlight' || 'Focus'

Spoiler

Moonlight is the perfect song to listen to if you’re falling in love or falling out of it. The lyrics tell a story going from how sweet it was when Ariana met this person and how sexual and passionate it is now. The chorus is like she’s exclaiming how amazing it is that she’s found someone like this as its powerful and a lot louder than the verses which have a soft tone.

This is what makes a perfect love song, having innocent and soft verses then a powerful chorus to show the two sides of a relationship. The good, and the really good. The ending of the song is the most important part as the violins start to play, the harmonies kick in and you feel warm inside as you can relate to every line Ariana is singing.

However, Focus is the opposite of falling in love with someone; it’s more like shoving your hand in their face and ignoring their existence. This song is about Ariana flaunting her stuff, trying to get a rise out of the haters and then ignoring them. This song is the polar opposite to Moonlight because the production is upbeat and mesmerising. The synths give it that pop perfection sound and Ariana’s vocals harmonize gloriously with the beat.

This song represents having fun because even though it’s about working hard, it’s more about having success and seeing the haters get jealous of you for doing so. Not only does this song make you want to dance, you are inspired to prove the haters wrong. I think this shows how diverse Dangerous Woman is because there are the typical love songs but also the fun and upbeat dance songs that make you feel inspired to find a lover or to be successful in life.

5. sumthintoxic82: Kelly Clarkson - "Piece By Piece": 'Bad Reputation' || 'Dance With Me'

Spoiler

tumblr_static_bd6xw8q4maogow00gwc0gwcgg_

As we saw last round, the beauty of Piece by Piece is that in goes through a lot of different emotions for Kelly. While Kelly is really known for her break-up and empowering songs, dance and love songs aren't always tend to be left out. However, since she got married , it has opened up on whole new world for Kelly with expressing herself.

"Bad Reputation" takes us on a journey about Kelly's falling in love. Feeling things that she's never felt before. It scares her, as she doesn't want to fall in love because of this "bad reputation" she has of heartache. She talks about how she is always in control of her emotions and never totally falls for the guy. But now, she's falling in love. And it scares her because it could lead to heartache. This is an unconventional love song. Not all love stories are "perfect". I feel like this song really takes a more realistic approach on love and on how guarded people really try to fight love, but cant.

Music can be freeing. Dancing can be therapeutic. Put those two together and you could loose you inhibitions. That is what "Dance With Me" is about. An escape from reality. To be free of any worries or drama, even if only for a moment. While it might not be a hardcore dance track, the atmosphere of the song really sets the right dance mood. It has this groove that makes you move.

While the love and dance theme can make an album seem diverse sonically, lyrically they could also go hand and hand. Love can be freeing, and you can loose yourself in it. Dancing with that special someone can bring out the love even more. Love and dance can be the happier sides of life.

6. Queen Conchita: Conchita Wurst - "Conchita": 'Colours Of Your Love' || 'Out Of Body Experience'

Spoiler

This rounds description of ‘diversity’ is a perfect way of describing “Conchita”, an album that features classic pop, heart wrenching ballads and tracks with swing, jazz and asian elements to name a few. Colours Of Your Love and Out Of Body Experience are not the average dance and love song by Conchita.

Colours Of Your Love is one of few upbeat/uptempo songs on the album, it starts off understated and ethereal, until the point from which it stands out from the rest of the album and the impactful electronic, dubstep-esque beatdrop hits you right from the first chorus and continues throughout, something extremely unexpected from the album that brought us classic, powerhouse ballads such as Rise Like A Phoenix and Put That Fire Out. It's the most club friendly song on the album because of the Euro-Pop feel to it (it was written and produced by some of Austria and Sweden’s finest) with house beats flowing through the song, it's destined to get you up dancing.

Out Of Body Experience is the song where Conchita gets sexual, with lyrics suggesting how having sex with someone left her with an out of body experience, it's mellowing production keeps a touch of naiveness to the song for Conchita's younger listeners. It's set apart from any other love song on the album due to its slightly erotic lyrics, something that Conchita hasn't delved into in so much detail on any other song before. Unlike other love songs on the album, Out Of Body Experience is mid tempo, with less attention on Conchita's trademark mind blowing vocals, going for a more simplistic approach instead.

The fact these songs appear straight after eachother in the tracklist proves the albums diversity furthermore, both lyrically and sonically.

7. Speezy: The Weeknd - "Starboy": 'Die For You' || 'Party Monster'

Spoiler

The Weeknd’s Starboy album had many selections to choose from. I’m actually laughing because there’s tracks on this album about that’s about love that carries an upbeat production. This album is not a stranger to clubs or inspirational bedroom music, I must say. There’s two tracks that stuck out to me that fits perfectly for this round. “Die for You” and “Party Monster” pulls out the diversity in the album in the areas of love and partying, even though there’s more to the album than those two topics.

“Party Monster” is about hangovers and Abel talking up the girls. Abel shows off that he can pop pills and forget a girl he slept with all in the same fun tune. The lyrical content then the production is what this makes this a party track. My reason for saying “lyrical content” is that it’s more relatable to party/club-goers or hosters because the track speaks about things that happens at parties. The descriptive lyrics brings the listener to an imaginative party. With the repetitive chorus and hook it’s a track hard not to grove to as well.

“Die For You” On the flip side is a slow vibey track about Abel proving his love to save a relationship. It’s almost a cliché slow love song but instead Abel’s girl is nearing to end the relationship him because the ups and downs. Abel vocally cries out for his lover to give him a chance in and as a return Abel will put his life on the line. To put your life on the line to save a relationship shows an unstoppable love only because you are risking it all to be possibly told “No”.

“Even though we're going through it
..

...Just know that I would die for you"

8. lhdang2000: Adele - "25": 'Can't Let Go' || 'Water Under The Bridge'

Spoiler

‘Can’t Let Go’ is a piano ballad about Adele being desperate for love. She gave him everything that he possibly wanted: loyalty, money, sex. She needed this man; she needed him to save her from sadness, from loneliness, from depression. But it was one-sided. It was up to the point they couldn’t hold a conversation anymore that she could only put her notes in his coat. Notes that make her feel like having a lump in her throat. Notes that make her feel like on the verge of her emotions writing them.

            On another side, ‘Water Under the Bridge’ is about her ready for a long run. She wants him to appreciate this experience with her. She understands that he loves her, though his action tells otherwise. She gives him the opportunity if he wants to ‘let her down,' but also reminds him, ‘Don’t pretend that you don’t want me.' She doesn’t push him but wants him to be vulnerable of how he feels, thus, gives him a chance to come back. By the title ‘Water Under the Bridge,' she wants to state how events in the past have become inconsequential, but they all contribute to the depth of their relationship. With an upbeat vibe, Adele proves that fun song doesn’t have to be about club or sex. Instead, it is about her feelings treasuring every moment with her man.

              ‘25’ is the most diverse album Adele has put out. There are fun tracks, there are ballads, but they are all about one thing: her life. Those two songs, as much as its differences, tell about different stages her relationship with her fiancé. But she never gives up; she fights for this love. And her reward now is what she has been hoping, a beautiful family with her son: D’Angelo.

Anyways I'll read the entires later, but I had no idea Focus was on Dangerous Woman. I thought she was trying to pretend it never existed :deadbanana2:
