Several users above you were trying to make subtle claims and thought your comment will be a nice opportunity to talk about this.
Fitzswiftie Posted September 4, 2019 Posted September 4, 2019 Fun fact "Truth Hurts" is the seventh song by a woman to spend time atop the Hot 100 in 2019. It follows the 6 previous #1s this year: Ariana Grande – thank u, next Halsey – Without Me Ariana Grande – 7 rings Lady Gaga – Shallow Billie Eilish – Bad Guy Camila Cabello – Señorita It is the first time that 7 credited women have been #1 since the 2014 year when the following were all #1: Rihanna – The Monster (featured) Kesha – Timber (featured) Katy Perry – Dark Horse Iggy Azalea & Charli XCX – Fancy Taylor Swift – Shake It Off Meghan Trainor – All About That Bass Taylor Swift – Blank Space Moreover, as Rihanna and Kesha were credited as featured acts, 2019 was the first time since 2012 that 7 women reached #1 with all of them as lead, a total 9 women reached that year with 2 more in featured roles. The following were #1 hits in 2012: Rihanna – We Found Love Adele – Set Fire to the Rain Kelly Clarkson – Stronger (What Makes Kill You) Katy Perry – Part of Me Janelle Monae – We Are Young (featured) Kimbra – Somebody That I Used to Know (featured) Carly Rae Jepsen – Call Me Maybe Taylor Swift – We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together Rihanna – Diamonds

For example, in both of their respective weeks, the albums occupied a similar market share (29 and 27 percent) of the whole album sales market in the country. People who try to mock her for the Lover numbers are not only extremely ignorant, but also show how little they know about the music market nowadays. The album itself felt like a non evenful compared to her previous plus i feel like it has no hit to keep the strong sales so it's probably just frondloaded. However, the first week's number was still impressive enough for me. Considering she has no #1 hit this era.

Reputation had the same drop, was released later on streaming and still was the #1 album of 2018 by Billboard. The album (Lover) lead single was a mess, but Calm did more than great, as we can see. Multiple weeks in the top 5 and hasn't left the top 20 since release. This the longest a single of hers has spent in the top 20 since 1989. Lover (the song) is showing great potential too.

I didn't say her second week's drop is abysmal but u can get my point. If there is no hit to keep the album alive, it will sink regardless of how she holds the second week. Calm did well but i wouldn't say it is a smash compared to her hits such as Shake or Blank Space or even Look at what you made me do. So far it spent 2 weeks in Top 5, one of which was its debut week and the other was the album's release week. I had a nice run inside Top 20 tho but i would say it's only a moderate hit for her standard.

I'm just saying reputation was in a similar position (Look was completely dead by the time the album came out) and still managed to pull through, even when its pure sales collapsed and its performance on streaming was limited because of the delay.

But even with everything from Billboard those 2 placements make absolutely no sense YNTCD is #9 on streaming songs, #12 on radio and somehow #4 on the Hot 100. Billboard says 24.6 million streams for it. That puts it at least 50 points behind #4 for me Me! is #33 on streaming songs, not top 50 on radio and somehow #11 on the Hot 100. We don't have digital songs positions for the 2 as they were hit by CMA effect, but wtf?????? I would need to put them at like 60-70k sales each to reach #4 and #11. That doesn't make any sense
Armani? Posted September 4, 2019 Posted September 4, 2019 Maybe they counted those Me! vinyl records this week.
simmnfierzig Posted September 4, 2019 Posted September 4, 2019 1 minute ago, Armani? said: Maybe they counted those Me! vinyl records this week. That doesnt explain YNTCD (or the archer where I was 30 spots off too) and only were 20k And how much CMA were there for them to have 60k sales and still not be on the top 50 digital songs chart. Not like they sold that much before album release or the album sold that much digitally
