Ratviolo Posted March 31, 2017 Posted March 31, 2017 Oh wow, why are Rihanna fans flooding this thread with hate? What's your problem Navy? I really don't get this hate, especially coming from them and considering the two girls like each other. Oh well, whatever.. OT: Congrats queen.

But let's compare their first 5 months. Anti sold 480k in its first 22 weeks without any discounts, without the christmas boost, and the only promo it had in the US in its first 5 months was the BBMAs (happened 4 months after the release of Anti). I'm not even mentioning the free giveaway or the fact that it never had iTunes banners. 480k for an album released in Q1 (when sales are the worst), barely promoted (almost never promoted) and never discounted is far more impressive than 500k for an album released in Q4, promoted at the super bowl + 5-6 other big platforms and discounted for 3 weeks (black friday, xmas, super bowl). Easy to understand. (And Anti was streamed 1.6 billion times in the US which makes up for its album sales.) Edited March 31, 2017 by istan4badgalriri

Enough is enough, would you please GET OUT? OT: Congrats Gaga, most people thought you wouldn't get to this just some months ago.

Even LOTB radio ai 155M which is bigger audience than Superbowl. and There is Needed Me +100M Radio ai and Work 100m+ raido ai. So stop it. Anti may not be promoted that much but radio always support her + spotify playlists. Gaga's album never featured big spotify playlists or radio. Only Perfect Illusion added Todays Top Hits for like 2 weeks. Also Gaga coming from ARTPOP which is media and gp and all the stan world tried to end her. Rihanna was coming from Unapologetic she always loved by GP and Radio. Today Joanne's success is a glory. She did it. She survived and she back and sold so much. Joanne is a success story.

Imogene Posted March 31, 2017 Posted March 31, 2017 Awful The fact they felt obliged to report 500k sales when so many albums did it with less weeks on charts is another proof of her decline.

Anti - 3 Top 10 singles (including a 9 week #1), 5 Platinum and Multi-platinum hits, the album has received certifications in 9 countries including 2x Plat in the US. Joanne - 1 Top 10 single which only spent a week there, 1 Platinum single, the album only has 3 certifications which are all gold (all with a Super Bowl and Grammys performance, as well as multiple discounts) Rihanna is even doing better critically! Now you tell me, how is Lady Gaga doing better

Sorry. 1) Streams aren't 'free' 2) Don't be stuck in that mindset when streaming brings in more revenue then downloads, CDs and Vinyls do combined 3) Streaming is single-handedly reviving the music industry so without there would be nothing to count Even so, Anti sold more, has more longevity without promo and its singles sold more in pure sales too.
Mystic Boy Posted March 31, 2017 Posted March 31, 2017 I'm LIVING for the fumes ....You didnt expect a gold certification in PURE sales didnt you haters? Not everybody has that

There's no point in even bothering, people will continue to try and downplay her success regardless of how much it is. Just so you guys know, regardless of how much promotion she has, these aren't terrible numbers. The album did its job of presenting a new image of Gaga to the public and did it successfully. The Superbowl was a huge promotional slot, but the fact is that it'll only help an artist for so long. We can all see that major artists are struggling in the industry to even get their singles off the ground. Don't compare someone like Rihanna who is literally one of the largest streaming artists in the world and is a completely different artist from Gaga.

If I can remember correctly: everytime Beyoncé has done the SB, she never released her work of art around the same time to capitalize off the promo (which is what Gaga actually did do) but that didn't stop everyone on this forum from suggesting "She used the SB to launch her album". in 2013, I remember vividly: She released almost a year later and the girls was STILL saying the SB was responsible for her Self Title album. so what is the truth?

The radio airplay excuse The fact that you think a song having 150M AI on radio is bigger promo than a song being performed at the super bowl Using your logic Joanne's sales should be increasing every week considering MR is rising on radio and just reached 70M AI. Songs get played on radio when they get good callout scores aka when people want to hear them because they like them. Needed Me was #1 on urban & rhythmic callouts, LOTB was top 5 on pop, rhythmic, urban callouts & #1 on HAC callouts. And why are you mentioning spotify playlists in a thread about pure album sales?

It's mostly just the people who have some weird obsessive hate for Beyoncé or Gaga that causes this delusion. We both know that Beyoncé had one of the best marketing moves in a long time, it literally changed everything. The Superbowl helps with a brief period of time, but the general public doesn't have the mental capacity to remember long enough the Superbowl or care much about it. The idea that the Superbowl helps an album almost a year later is ludicrous.

How tragic. Guess we'll have a clear picture by the end of 2017
