That being said, of course, she'll never reach most of the 80s-90s girls in pure considering they benefitted from the best climate for album sales while today's market is almost dead. We get a way better picture when we look at the All-time BB200 chart, where Taylor is already #2 among women Edited July 14, 2019 by peterstyles13

They didn't initially include music clubs nor Tower Records (the second biggest retailer for a time). Madonna outsold both of them in the U.S. by a considerable amount (though Ms. Carey was close). Her catalog stats are incredible. Keep in mind they're all rounded up, though. Taylor Swift will never even get close Barbra Streisand - 88,850,000 Madonna - 71,260,000 Mariah Whitney - 60,260,000 Celine Britney Spears - 39,490,000 Janet Jackson Oh yeah I meant in the purview of this thread, Nielsen soundscan era

We get a way better picture when we look at the All-time BB200 chart, where Taylor is already #2 among women The all-time BB200 chart is nonsense. Not only is the methodology horse **** (Adele's 3M+ week at #1 netted her as many points as a 68k week at #1), but the charts were just made up nonsense until 1991 based on what retailers wanted to report. They only added in partial POS reporting in 1991 and they weren't comprehensive until 2004. Taylor Swift will never outsell Britney Spears in the U.S. Britney did 33.6M through Nielsen Soundscan but that's not her full total - BOMT did 1.6M just through the second largest music club provider (hence it being at 10.6M on Nielsen but over 14x Platinum). The best metric to go by is the RIAA and their album-equivalents.

Eternium
@JawBreaker Britney’s label isn’t up to date on her certifications - only 1 of her albums is updated with SPS And Taylor will never touch her with CSPC. Britney’s over 100M and still gaining and Taylor’s not yet at 77M and slowing down dramatically. She won’t even hit 100M by the end of the 2020s at this rate. But this is going off-topic and if you want to compare, save it for a thread about that. OT: LWYMMD and Reputation deserved so much more (and Shake It Off and the horrible 1989 deserved so much less).

He said all the new girls(Taylor, Beyonce,Adele and Rihanna) will definitely surpass her. Taylors catalog already gained ~1.2B streams on Spotify alone this year. If Lover performs just as Reputation she will gain around 15M CSPC total this year he said. So by end of next year, she will be at 100M. It's not like Britney is gaining fast anyway. Either way, both girls slay. 100M CSPC is really hard to get. It's a big achievement. OT: Bad blood slaying in streams despite being left to dust. Idk what year her first greatest hits came out so maybe it wasn't included too. That's true. However, we must then also inform everyone that Mariah's 9x Platinum selling debut album was also released prior to the soundscan era and that soundscan gradually increased its market share in the US during the 1990s and has never covered 100% of albums sales in the US, especially in the 1990s. In 2019 a good 95% of all albums sales are tracked by soundscan, during the 1990s it wasn't more than maybe 75%.
