Source: Nielsen Music, for the tracking period of Jan. 4 – June 20, 2019.
* On June 29, 2018, Billboard and Nielsen Music adapted different weighting for SEA units for paid on-demand audio streams (updating from 1,500 streams to 1 unit, to 1,250 streams to 1 unit) and ad-supported on-demand audio streams (updating from 1,500:1 to 3,750:1). Additionally, video streaming equivalencies updated from 1,500:1 to 3,750:1.

As such, for this story, last year’s overall volume consumption unit numbers were updated to reflect the current ratios, in order to present a proper comparison.

** Nielsen Music’s consumption unit totals for albums include SEA and TEA for an album's songs registered before the album's release, but during the tracking period. For example, Ariana Grande's Thank U, Next album unit total includes SEA and TEA for its title track and “7 Rings” for Jan. 4 through Feb. 7, 2019, before the album was released on Feb. 8.

Gaga having the #1 selling album and the #2 selling single in 2019, despite the album and song being released in 2018 :jonny5:

ASIB #4 on overall SEA as well :clap3:

Females dominating the albums charts, who would've thot? :jonny: Lauren Daigle's success is remarkable!

Remember when in 2017 the only female song in the top 30 was Julia Michaels' Issues in the late 20s? :rip:

The female trinity of 2019 did that (Gaga, Ariana and Billie) :jonny: To think Gaga was part of the trinity that ruled 2009 as well (Gaga, Beyoncé and Taylor).

I can see the top successful albums for 2018 being

1. Adele

2. Taylor

3. Billie

I must say Taylor won’t have Billie’s longevity( hope I’m wrong) but Billie is in a whole other level, I can’t believe she’s about to pass Ariana soon.

2019 has been the best year for female music since like 2013.

and Gaga just performed Shallow twice live :jonny5:

It's a song from a movie but remember that people also paid money for that :jonny:

The organic level and the word of mouth of that song and the album :jonny:

No. My list is most album equivalents moved in a calendar year.

Billboard's Top Artist year-end isn't based on album units moved. It's based on a combination of album/single sales, streaming, airplay, touring, and social media interactions.
