Yvess Posted September 2, 2019 Author Posted September 2, 2019 (edited) ROUND 17: A SOUNDTRACK IS BORN ENTRIES Group 1 @PinkBox @EriKills @Touch It @KatyCatPH MOVIE TITLE: THE OTHER WOMAN (2014 film) Plot and other info: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Other_Woman_(2014_film) Official Trailer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=juxTC7hYGTE OFFICIAL ENTRY: Spoiler Team PinkCatKillsIt The Other Woman TRACKLIST 1. Me So Bad by Tinashe (ft. French Montana and Ty Dolla Sign) 2. Love Drought by Beyoncé 3. Run The World (Girls) by Beyoncé 4. Look What You Made Me Do by Taylor Swift 5. Player by Tinashe (ft. Chris Brown) 6. I Hate You Then I Love You by Céline Dion (ft. Luciano Pavarotti) 7. We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together by Taylor Swift 8. I Drove All Night by Céline Dion EXPLANATION The movie starts off with Carly having a fun and sexual relationship with a man named Mark that is perfectly represented by Me So Bad. To her horror, she finds out that Mark has another wife, Kate, and evokes feelings of betrayal and hostility, like in Love Drought. The two women then find out that Mark has been seeing a third woman as well. They all befriend each other to collectively get revenge on Mark. There's this feeling of solidarity like in Run The World (Girls), and the song Look What You Made Me Do is an anthem to their revenge. After the revenge, Kate catches feelings for Mark once more, described by Player and I Hate You Then I Love You. After seeing Mark for who he really is, Kate decides to end the relationship for good and pretty much says "We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together". Mark goes bankrupt, all three women are successful and in love with a good man. I Drove All Nightrepresents this well, as they all had long and difficult paths to go through, but they finally do and all find their way in the end. Yvess Posted September 2, 2019 Author Posted September 2, 2019 (edited) ROUND 17: A SOUNDTRACK IS BORN ENTRIES Group 2 @Invisibility @Solarie @Overprotected @/GUERO MOVIE TITLE: THE CRAFT (1996 film) Plot and other info: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Craft_(film) Official Trailer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SxEqB--5ToI&t=30s OFFICIAL ENTRY: Spoiler TEAM OVERPOLARITY Tracklist. 1. Nobody's Home 2. Unwanted 3. I Always Get What I Want 4. Cover Me 5. Swim 6. Play Dead 7. Mer Girl 8. Enjoy Youtube Playlist Explanation. The songs in this soundtrack were selected based on both the lyrics and sound (a 90’s vibe for the most part). You have to remember that most songs in a movie soundtrack don’t literally describe what’s going on in the film but rather they set the mood which is also why we arranged the tracklist the way we did. We begin with Nobody’s Home, a song for troubled/misfit girls that also describes the struggles and conditions one of the main characters, Nancy, was going through, such as depression and psychopathic tendencies. Quote She wants to go home But nobody's home That's where she lies Broken inside With no place to go So through magic, all the girls became powerful and in control, but before that they were all truly damaged, and Nobody's Home is describing their issues. In Unwanted Avril is singing about not belonging anywhere, which is how all the girls felt before becoming powerful with magic. They were all social outcasts. The lyrics are showing Avril being hurt over the lack of acceptance, and that's the beginning of The Craft. Quote Quote You don't know me Don't ignore me You don't want me there You just shut me out Quote No, I just don't understand why You won't talk to me It's hurts that I'm so unwanted for nothing So once they get their powers thanks to Sarah joining the coven they all have fun as a group at first and for this part of the movie we chose I Always Get What I Want which is kind of self-explanatory since the four girls use magic to get what they want whether it’s revenge, love or money. Quote Every now and then we all want something Even if there's no way of gettin' it If I stomach that that's the way it must be Be the way around it, could I get myself around it Get me what I want Everything that I got Don't want to always have to be so nice Don't want to hear you say well that's just life I dry out when I open my mouth I make my way around it, make my way around it Then the mood changes with Cover Me as the girls start getting deeper into the magic stuff they go to the beach during the night to do something as risky as invoking their god Manon for more power. So this song not only fits the spooky vibe of the moment but Bjork is also singing about doing something dangerous (she recorded this song in a cave) Quote This is really dangerous Cover me But worth all the effort Cover me I’m going to prove the impossible really exists For the aftermath of this we chose Swim as it actually start with ocean waves and talks about wanting to let go of the negativity of the past and move on in her life to more positive and bigger things which is fitting as this is the moment the protagonist realizes they’ve gone too far and Nancy is going crazy, she can no longer ‘carry these sins in her back’! After the guy Sarah put a love spell on dies she starts to feel weak and depressed for what she’s caused like she says in the movie “Everything I touch turns to ****” and the song Play Dead which deals with depression works within this context as her father wants to comfort her but he tells him to go away Quote Darling, stop confusing me With your wishful thinking Hopeful embraces Don't you understand? I have to go through this I belong to here where No one cares, and no one loves No light no air to live in A place called hate The city of fear This is also the point where the other girls in the coven turn their backs on Sarah and start haunting her everywhere she goes, even in her dreams so she starts running away from place to place and she also seeks help from another witch who reveals Sarah’s mother was also a natural witch. For this we chose Mer Girl. Quote I ran to the treetops, I ran to the sky Hid my tears, hid my fears I ran to the forest, I ran to the trees I ran and I ran, I was looking for me Finally we selected Enjoy mainly for its dark sound that fits the mood of the ending with Sarah 'binding' Nancy from doing any more harm and she ends up locked up in a psych hospital. Sonically it's frantic like her outbursts after she's hospitalized. Edited September 2, 2019 by Yvess
