Lay Me Down: A ballad of a very "fresh" breakup. Samnashe is feeling all types of overwhelming, unwanted emotions that Samnashe naively thinks will be absolved by being "layed down tonight", "by your side next to you" of the heartbreaker. Samnashe is very actively hoping and seeking a response from their heartbreaker to temporarily mend this heartbreak. Middle Of Nowhere: A lot less "optimistic" from the previous track. Being deserted, the heartbreak has left Samnashe feeling like a desert. It's a beautiful metaphor for how the act of deserting has left Samnashe feeling. "You deserted me but you left the pain", she softly like desert sand whisper cries. "Middle of nowhere....won't you come find me there" Despite the heartbreak pain, Samnashe still remains somewhat hopeful to be "found". Too Good At Goodbyes: a powerful first verse, Samnashe very boldly exclaims they are no fool, and unfortunately, not un-familiar to heartbreak.."You must think that I'm new to this, But I have seen this all before". A stark contrast to the heartbroken Samnashe from Lay Me Down, this time there is no naive hope for reconciliation. In fact, Samnashe is reminiscing on former heartbreak to justify why they have their guard up, and to help mentally prepare for the anguish of yet another heartbreak. Salt: an "over it" attitude, Samnashe is again far from naive regarding an "anticipated" heartbreak. "So when you go and break my heart in two, don't throw salt on the wound" Aware that the relationship is not working out, all Samnashe asks is to not throw salt on the wound. This implies cutting all ties. No "lay me down tonight", no, "come find me in the desert", etc because it will only add pain to the wound. "In another life we'll find a way to win." but not this one. The Moment - Charlie talks about claiming his life and makung the best out of it despite of challenges. Clean - Taylor learns that she can live without a man, being clean is about moving on as a person and really taking care of yourself. Through It All - Charlie realizes that life goes on despite the things that he has been through. These songs may vary themetically at first glance but if you will take a second to analyze, these songs talks about moving on and having the maturity to do so. The four songs are also sonically cohesive. SIDE A : Robbie starts the EP off with I Will Talk and Hollywood Will Listen wishing to make it big in Hollywood, dreaming at being successful, famous and how his life would be much better and easier. SIDE B : Robbie starts this part off with Better Man talking about how he needs someone to be there for him and to love him. He's hurt, fragile and needs someone, anyone's support. The song starts out very hopeless ("Send someone to love me, I need to rest in arms, keep me safe from harm in pouring rain"; "Lord, I'm doing all I can to be a better man"). However, there is a glimpse of hope as the song progresses ("Love is all around. I know some have fallen on stony ground, but love is all around). It's empowering in the sense that, despite his past and everything that's happening in his life, he is hopeful that things can change and that he himself will do everything he can to better himself. Céline then sings to him in That's The Way It Is, acknowledging his suffering and all the pain he is going through, but tells him that it will get better ("I can read your mind and I know your story, I see what you're going through, It's an uphill climb, and I'm feeling sorry, But I know it will come to you"). Throughout the song, she tells him to not give up and that the good will come to those who believe in it, even when it feels hopeless. The song focuses more on finding love, but it can also be about any hardship. Human Nature Explanation A sonically diverse but thematically cohesive 4-track EP, "PATH TO BE FREED" develops a story of independece through four stages or perspectives. I Want to Break Free has the narrator describe the wish to separate himself from the restraint of a relationship with no love. In fact, through the song Freddie reassures himself that, even though he'll be lonely without his partner by his side, he must make it living on his own. In his reflection of independence, we can still see a bit of doubt. For its view of independence, Don't Tell Me uses a range of phenomena such as rain, the sun and wind to compare her unstoppable convictions in life. Whether it's in the way she loves or fighting to have her vice heard, Madonna will unabashedly be herself and won't hear what others have to say to belittle her. Ambitious is the best way to describe Freddie's sense of independence through I Want It All. In this anthemic rock number, he comes across as someone who doesn't compromise with people or responsibility, instead focusing only on his desires: mainly seeking the thrill of adventure while his youth lasts- it's careless as it's supposed to be. Finally, Human Nature looks back on the consequences of being free in the way Madge handles her public persona. She knows expressing her sexuality in an independent manner and having the male gaze less on her mind than ever while doing so, didn't sit well with 90s society. However, she's really not sorry about it, and tells her obsessed critics to deal with their own ****, words she still lives by to date. He sings this song with a very relaxed and sexual tone. The song is pretty straight forward with Bruno comforting the girl to relax and for her to enjoy her first sexual experience with him. Versace on the Floor: "So baby, let's turn down the lights and close the door / Oooh I love that dress / But you won't need it anymore" In this song, Bruno has a very romantic moment with a woman that has a Versace dress on. While having a very romantic night with this woman, Bruno tells her that she doesn't need to keep her dress on because they're gonna "kiss until they're naked". Just like OFT, this song is mostly having sex in a very soft and romantic way. Rocket: "Punish me please / Daddy, what you gon' do with all this ass / All up in your face? / Yeah, hell yeah, ride me so deep" Beyonce sings this song in a very sexual voice that could turn honestly anybody on. While this song is just as sexual as Bruno's songs, it brings a new side of sex to the table. WOFT and VOTF are more relaxed and soft while Rocket has lyrics that are much more rough such as wanting her partner to "drown" her in pleasure until she screams for air to breathe. Partition: "Handprints and good grips all on my ass / Private show with the music blasting / He like to call me Peaches when we get this nasty" In this song, Beyonce also brings sex to a new level. Beyonce is singing about her and her husband having sex in a limo in a very seductive way. The quote from above shows us that they're being very kinky with the roleplay of Peaches, a popular stripper, and the spanking that is going on. tl;dr: Bruno's two songs show a much more vanilla way of having sex while Bey's songs show the type of sex that is much more kinky and rough. Either way, both Bruno and Bey show different ways of having sex while still being completely intimate and romantic with their partners. The lyrics of Spaceboy might be nonsensical for some but it's the dark and heavy instrumental that makes this another headbanging anthem for irritated people. 4.5/5 The New York Times: The Björk of Pluto is Björk as she's intended to sound. She very skillfully vacillates between a range of tones; she's nasally, then guttural, then grainy, then delicate. (And yes, that's how she's supposed to do it.) She's angry. She's hostile. She sounds slightly insane. Probably the peak of the EP where she just snaps in order to be 'brand new tomorrow'. 10/10 Slant Magazine: In an EP where both artists invite us to see different sides to a feeling as strong and complex as anger, the most reflective moment of the record comes with the last song.
