Isn't it sad that a song doing 20k a week and selling like 300k in the long run is still more profitable for artists than having a song cross 1 billion streams on Spotify? I wonder how much money our girlies actually got during the peak of the digital era. Katy, Rihanna, Beyoncé and Gaga must be FILTHY rich. If there was anytime to have a smash success, it was 2008-2013.
Ger
Man, I was expecting a little more for Ariana, kinda like 62k. I knew no matter how big the boost could be, it wasn't going to be able to pull 70k+. Sad.
umich
Not even 75k whew streaming won. i miss those days when the Christmas #1 would sell in excess of 500k.

If there was anytime to have a smash success, it was 2008-2013. 1 billion spotify streams generates around 6 million dollars in revenue, considering that Spotify’s average payout per stream is around ~ $0.005 a song selling 300k digital units generates roughly $400k so no, streaming is actually quite lucrative, but just like with digital sales, it's only the select few mainstream label-supported artists that actually make millions from it
