Pink Matter Posted December 28, 2018 Posted December 28, 2018 So much to appreciate with both of the last two updates Reborn and Pienso En Tu Mira are my faves
TayRianaPH Posted December 28, 2018 Posted December 28, 2018 Hi sweetie! Great list so far! ? My Top 3 picks on the set: 3. Praise The Lord 2. Make Me Feel 1. Breathin See you on my Best Of too.
World Eater Posted December 28, 2018 Posted December 28, 2018 BOOGIE is still BROCKHAMPTON's best song Ari snapped this year, loved both giaw and breathin Finesse (Remix), Honey, PIENSO EN TU MIRÁ, Fists of Fury, Make Me Feel, Praise the Lord (shame it got overshadowed by other songs), Licking an Orchid, Nobody and Immaterial, whew
ATRL Moderator Tsareena Posted December 28, 2018 ATRL Moderator Posted December 28, 2018 fosts of firy, breathin, make me feel whee a lead, nobody, immaterial an update
theblackestday Posted December 28, 2018 Posted December 28, 2018 Fists of Fury, Bubblin, Licking an Orchid, Nobody Wrong Sophie and Ari choices but I'm hoping to see the superior singles from both higher
TheWayWeWere Posted December 28, 2018 Posted December 28, 2018 Nobody is so sad and good kinda reminds me of Robyn's bittersweet dancefloor anthems Gonna Love Me ugh, Teyana snapped on KTSE MMF is perfection i still get shook everytime I hear this Breathin is ****ing amazing one of best pop productions of the year
Dom Posted December 28, 2018 Posted December 28, 2018 Honestly "Breathin" is one of Ari's best works ever, shame she gave a half assed vid to this, just because she doesn't like the song, and released thank u next on it, and that overshadowed it. She should have embraced it more. such a perfect pop tune and so calm.
ATRL Moderator Legend E Posted December 28, 2018 ATRL Moderator Posted December 28, 2018 breathin, Make Me Feel
potent Posted December 29, 2018 Posted December 29, 2018 Make Me Feel is my fave from this set. I tried some songs from Kimbra but I wasn't super into them, but I can definitely see why she's getting the mentions.
MP2K Posted December 30, 2018 Author Posted December 30, 2018 (edited) 30. Drake, “Nice for What”’ Why is it important? The truth is I never really want to include Drake on my lists, but damnit, he always finds a way to chart anyway – With his garbage ass albums self. So, he goes from stealing from my people to doing the New Orleans bounce phase and the result is some of his most joyous music to date. It’s an absolute banger that’s impossible to just listen once, with a spinning sample of Lauryn HIll’s “Ex-Factor” and some back up from Big Freedia. What's it about? Encouragement for women working too hard to deal with men like him…you know… Drake trying to come off as a good-guy again. 29. Normani & Khalid, “Love Lies” Why is it important? Since the 5H days I knew I saw a star. Normani, to me, is one of the most promising young voices and if you don’t believe me the BBMA performance would suggest that as well. She serves both a vibrant and sultry delivery and her co-star Khalid was cool too, but it was Normani that kept me hooked to one of the best rhythmic collabs of the year. What’s it about? “Love, Simon” was ASS btw. 28. Teyana Taylor, “Rose In Harlem” Why is it important? Among releases from Pusha T, Kid Cudi, Nas, and Kanye himself, you would think Teyana Taylor’s would be weak sauce. But she came through strong with this one. “Rose in Harlem” is autobiographical, honest and liberated, delivered through those smokey, passionate vocals over a genius sample of "Because I Love You Girl" by The Stylistics. What's it about? Self-awareness surrounding her career, her come-up, and fake friends. 27. serpentwithfeet, “cherubim” Why is it important? Another queer poc flipping everything you know on its head. “cherubim” is dramatic, theatrical and yet one of the freshest tracks of 2018. Many interesting sounds and feelings come out of it. What's it about? Declaration of queer love. 26. Christine and the Queens, “5 Dollars” Why is it important? Probably the most underappreciated single from Chris this era. The moment it was released I kept it on repeat and in rotation. “5 dollars” is a perfect pop song about buying love: its bright, clear, melodic and infectious. Key Lyric/Bit: The chorus sends me. C’mon Marina! Edited December 30, 2018 by MP2K
MP2K Posted December 30, 2018 Author Posted December 30, 2018 (edited) 25. Jay Rock, “Wow Freestyle (feat. Kendrick Lamar)” Why is it important? Sweet and to the point. This is no “lemme send you the track via email and you drop a verse” this is a COLLABORATION. And you can tell they had fun just ripping it on this braggadocious track about their lives and friendship. Key Lyric/Bit: The back and forth exchange of bars. 24. Kali Uchis, “After The Storm (feat. Tyler, The Creator & Bootsy Collins)” Why is it important? Since the mid-2010s I’ve been ignoring Kali Uchis until “Tyrant” and a couple of her features from last year. On “After the Storm,” I really enjoyed the message and opened up more to her sound. It’s such a silky R&B Jam with a classic feel while Tyler, the Creator adds a dose of hard edge. Key lyrics/bit: Her seductive coos. 23. Lizzo, “Boys” Why is it important? Every something-years there’s a notable male objectifying song. Lizzo may not be the most notable artists, but she delivered one of the funkiest ones yet. That rumbling bass line and cowbells flavored with high-pitched electric guitar carries the song through. Lizzo is charming and radiates enormous fun. Feels like: “Boys-boys, all type-a-boys… Black, White, Puerto Rican, Chinese Boys” 22. Chloe x Halle, “Happy Without Me” Why is it important? Don’t think there was competition, but can we say Best American girl group this year? “Happy Without Me” is so simple, so straightforward but hearing these two give me warm fuzzies. It’s just heartfelt lyrics, honeyed falsettos and overall great vocal delivery. The love story unfolds from high school flirty to heartache to an unexpected maturity. One of my fave R&B tracks. What’s it about? The feeling you have knowing that the person you shared your heart to has move on. 21. U.S. Girls, “Rosebud” Why is it important? This chilling bop! Remy sings over a flurry of guitars, synths, and strings. There’s a haunting aspect to it but it accomplishes to keep your body moving. It’s a replay for me dawg. Key lyrics/bit: “Stooop / Let's take a moment…” setting the tone. Edited December 30, 2018 by MP2K

Eeveelution Posted December 30, 2018 Posted December 30, 2018 Quote Since the mid-2010s I’ve been ignoring Kali Uchis until “Tyrant" Same ff. I don't even know why. I like most of the songs here, ATS and Rosebud are probably my faves. I love your graphics btw! And how you do your writeups, you've made several points.
ATRL Moderator madonnas Posted December 30, 2018 ATRL Moderator Posted December 30, 2018 For some reason I HATE Love Lies, like with a fiery burning passion, but I enjoy the rest. Actually every song, to some extent. A rose in Harlem is the best non-WTP song on KTSE!!
lhdang2000 Posted December 30, 2018 Posted December 30, 2018 Love Lies is not spectacular by any means, but I don't get why ATRL hates it a lot. Nice For What is one of the few that I can take from Drake this year.
Jorge Posted December 31, 2018 Posted December 31, 2018 Normani & Khalid (Check out my countdown in Best Of 2018 ? )

I found Love Lies to be one of the few exceptions and good blend of pop and r&b. Plus, I didn't ***** it out nor listen to the radio so it was never annoying.
