theblackestday Posted December 15, 2018 Posted December 15, 2018 (edited) why would you have expectations from these anyway Joyride is understandable though, considering it's like, one of the worst albums of the year and it followed Nightride which was pretty great Edited December 15, 2018 by theblackestday
ATRL Moderator madonnas Posted December 15, 2018 ATRL Moderator Posted December 15, 2018 Nicki Minaj is like, the most disappointing artist of all time.
Remmy Posted December 15, 2018 Posted December 15, 2018 Oh I can't complain about these 2 I knew both albums would be disappointing so I can't say I felt the same way, though I did think Justin would've served something better after the wait. Joyride is easily the weaker one in my eyes, at least MotW has some highlights.
ATRL Moderator Tsareena Posted December 15, 2018 ATRL Moderator Posted December 15, 2018 no points on queen
ATRL Moderator Unoriginal Posted December 15, 2018 ATRL Moderator Posted December 15, 2018 Nicki Minaj... I'd have a lot to say about her if I wasn't a mod
BlackoutZone Posted December 15, 2018 Posted December 15, 2018 I saw BJ stanning and was like "Ok maybe he had a rough day, maybe he was doing a bit too much crack? Maybe both", but just 1 page later what I see is Dirty Computer slander... someone hospitalize me You spilled with Jessie tho, thrilling album as the rest of her discography And she is COMING again, hopefully with more Overtimes (aka Imagine It Was Us 2.0, 3.0 and more )

bestfiction Posted December 15, 2018 Posted December 15, 2018 I didn't have high hopes for queen honestly so I just took a couple of bops from it and got away MOTW... I recall trying to listening to it the day it came out and I was like... "um, it's kinda good" and stopped on the track 9
Mark Rih Posted December 15, 2018 Posted December 15, 2018 Poor my faves Drake and JT being dragged like that
mokitsu Posted December 15, 2018 Author Posted December 15, 2018 i wanna start with the honorable mentions before heading into the albums and songs. these were records that i enjoyed early in the year and didn't age that well, albums that didn't captivate me enough to relisten even though i enjoyed them or albums that were released recently and i didn't have enough time to get into them the way i'd like to. in spoilers are the albums and the highlights are linked. Nicholas Krgovich - "Ouch" this is a pretty lofi breakup album with some pop flourishes. i guess it only stuck with me cuz it's ~gay~ but it's pretty nice and mundane. Clairo - diary 001 kinda surprised nobody cares about this plant here, i really enjoyed this ep. it's a fun listen and i enjoy her style. Vessel - Queen of the Golden Dogs pretty intense electronic music with club, classical, chamber music influences. it's all over the place in a good way Travis Scott - Astroworld i overplayed this when it came out i think. it's still a pretty good record. travis is definitely..unique Father John Misty - God's Favorite Costumer glad he was able to come back from last year's garbage album. this is more accessible and less pretentious with more solid tunes. Nao - Saturn not as unique as her debut but still enjoyable. some really good songs in the middle but ultimately it's just not very memorable BORNS - Blue Madonna played this a lot in q1, probably because there weren't many good pop releases. despite being very similar to his debut he improved a lot. very catchy bops. ShyGirl - Cruel Practice this girl should be bigger with the gheys, very interesting and innovative hip hop with bubblegum bass production. Chloe x Halle - The Kids Are Alright i wasn't very excited for this but they impressed me. they have this mysterious, otherworldy vibe to their music. maybe it's just me but i dig it. Oneohtrix Point Never - Love In The Time Of Lexapro another one that just came out, i probably like it more than his album. the sandy g collab was...interesting Salto - Férias em Família my favorite portuguese release of the year. indie rock with very interesting and genre bending production and very smooth orgasmic vocals. so good Tommy Cash - ¥€$ kinda all over the place and very messy. it just came out and has some bops but i haven't gotten into it yet Black Thought - Streams of Thought Vol. 2 i only got into this legend this year but i haven't had time to fully digest this. he's a genius and i love the jazzy production in rap generally. Jid - DiCaprio 2 he sounds soooo much like kendrick which is probably why i listen to him, but it's still very solid and above average hip hop Rae Morris - Someone Out There another album i got into because of the pop drought in q1. it's fine i guess Melody's Echo Chamber - Bon Voyage a big step down from her previous album with some questionable production choices, but solid nonetheless Let's Eat Grandma - I'm All Ears listened to it because of the gheys overrating it, it's interesting but a very confusing listen, didn't really grab me but still enjoyable Christine and the Queens - Chris too many songs for me to care but i liked what i listened to Empress Of - Us this was kinda a disappointment but it wasn't bad by any means. just don't know if this more mainstream vibe fits her very well. Lily Allen - No Shame was disappointed at first, then overplayed it in the summer, now i don't really care about but it still deserves a spot here. Tanukichan - Sundays some cool shoegaze i downloaded before summer vacation and got addicted to because it was the only thing on my phone at the time. Emma Louise - Lilac Everything i don't know why she made her voice sound like a man but i wouldn't have heard of it if she hadn't so she won i guess. chamber pop Mich Cota - Kijà / Care honestly don't know what genres this is but it's weird Richard Swift - The Hex it's honestly so weird that i didn't know who he was or that he had died before listening to this, it's psychadelic and poppy. very good Rosalie. - Flashback dollar store version r&b, i think she's polish but there are english songs. some sound like kaytranada tracks and it's very lush Kaytranada - NOTHIN LIKE U / CHANCES i don't like the ty$ song but the instrumentals are godly. bring another album king Ian Isiah - Shugga Sextape another one who should be bigger with gheys, so fun and fresh alternative r&b, reminds me of something the 2013 fka/kelela wave of girls would release Justine Skye - ULTRAVIOLET very generic contemporary r&b tunes but she does them well. Iglooghost - Clear Tamei i liked steel mogu better but iglooghost still snapped here, he's very cool and interesting Amnesia Scanner - Another Life sometimes this is TOO aggresive and abrasive but that's what makes it fun

ATRL Moderator madonnas Posted December 15, 2018 ATRL Moderator Posted December 15, 2018 a lot of HMs Let me dive deeper. Chris is great, though it's definitely one of those albums with obvious filler and obvious highlights. Us only got one listen from me, but it was better than what I was expecting cuz I only liked one single. Shygirl's EP is great, deserved more. LIly's album sucked, only two good songs. Let's Eat Grandma, Travis, & Rae Morris maybe deserved a little more but also maybe not. They were solid releases.

Pink Matter Posted December 15, 2018 Posted December 15, 2018 Outside of Dirty Computer, all of these are great picks for disappointments of the year. I was so hyped for Negro Swan and was so disappointed I figured Joyride would suck due to the constant pushbacks. Still, she can do better than that At this point, Drake will always be a disappointment to me. I'll check for his singles but unless their amazing and drastically different to what he's given us before, I'm not listening to a full album from him (I'll say this though, Nice For What is my ****!).
ATRL Moderator Tsareena Posted December 15, 2018 ATRL Moderator Posted December 15, 2018 clairo is kinda gross astroworld was pretty cute, didn't like god's favorite customer no points on saturn.. I like blue madonna quite a bit as well. Us/ no shame were cute too omg emma louise... really enjoyed her album yas justine

TheWayWeWere Posted December 15, 2018 Posted December 15, 2018 Tinasha most singles and non-album releases were much better than Joyride tbh MOTW is a mess indeed Queen feels kinda uninspired and tired
Body Electrician Posted December 15, 2018 Posted December 15, 2018 not you calling Pure Comedy garbage it was too long and a biT pretentious but had amazing songwriting and great performances throughout and is FAR better than God's Least Favourite Album in relation to your Chris review - you know it's the same album but first in English and then in French right? some cute choices, LEG deserved more tho
