lhdang2000 Posted January 1, 2019 Posted January 1, 2019 I feel so bad for not knowing any of these, maybe I need to dig deeper cause based on your descriptions, these sound awesome.
ATRL Moderator Tsareena Posted January 1, 2019 Author ATRL Moderator Posted January 1, 2019 15 - 11 Quote I like this as a follow up to "Me". A lot more fun, relaxed and easy to get into as an album. Love is the major theme here and the lyrics never get corny for such a common theme. Serves: I Don't Even Smoke Weed, I've Got Love, When I'm With Him Quote Great storytelling and a lot different from what I'd expected from the initial singles. I'm easily drawn to the bops but her vocals are so good on the slower tracks especially the last few tracks. I love that she embraces a traditional sound with a twist but it still feels authentic with a message that's especially relevant today Serves: Malamente, Pienso en tu Mira, Malidicion Quote great album from Kacey. The lyrics are beautiful and so real. Nothing feels forced or out of place on this. It's a happy album on love and so much more with great depth. Serves: Butterflies, High Horse, Slow Burn Quote MO did THAT on her sophomore album. She still brought the bops(with really euphoric production) but she also has a really consistent concept behind the album. Serves: Purple Like the Summer Rain, If It's Over, Mercy Quote I lost my grandma in 2018 and wasn’t able to go for her funeral and I had connected to this album before then but I found myself returning to it a lot because of the themes of loss and feeling homeless or searching for a home really resonated with me. Really gorgeous tracks on this Serves: Salt Candy, Keep It Out, Solid 2 Void

Remmy Posted January 2, 2019 Posted January 2, 2019 Golden Hour and Forever Neverland back-to-back Actually listened to both of these for the 1st time pretty recently, especially Kacey. Only negative I can really say is that the 2 slower songs on MO/'s album could've been better and stand out way too much. Butterflies + If It's Over would be my favorites from your serves.
Jet Posted January 2, 2019 Posted January 2, 2019 Golden Hour is great and this is coming from someone who hates Country
Lazuli Posted January 2, 2019 Posted January 2, 2019 Us, Golden Hour, Forever Neverland Recently heard Malamente cuz of the best of and I'm gonna check out El Mal Querer
Pink Matter Posted January 2, 2019 Posted January 2, 2019 Someone Out There Glad to see it made another YEL! I love that we're all on board the Rosalia bandwagon. TAW Great gowns at Kacey
ATRL Moderator Tsareena Posted January 2, 2019 Author ATRL Moderator Posted January 2, 2019 10 - 1 Quote I really loved everything about this. The minimalist and still interesting production, light vocals that show so much emotion behind the tracks and lyrics that are both deep and whimsical. Serves: KIDS, Nevermore, Deception Bay Quote The first singles were so great so I'm glad this lived up to my expectations. I like the general chill vibe of the album and there are still bops to mix it up a bit. One thing I never enjoy is interludes and Kali's interludes are pretty much mini songs. Serves: Your Teeth in My Neck, Dead To Me, Tyrant Quote Nao's songwriting really gets a chance to shine on this compared to her debut and it’s so different as well. I love the travel and space metaphors that tie this project together without feeling overdone. Serves: Orbit, Gabriel, Curiosity Quote You can hear Lorde’s thumbprint on this pop album. Really underrated and I can see many people enjoying this. The balance between pop perfection and thoughtful song writing is easily met on this. Serves: Speedboat, Pitch Dark, Laugh It Off Quote I wasn’t initially on board with a more stripped back sound for FATM but obviously they won me over. Lyrics are reflective and so gorgeous especially on No Choir and Grace. Serves: No Choir, Big God, End of Love Quote I’ve been hype for their debut since “Drop” dropped. The fact that Beyonce signed them makes them interesting already but their music stands on it’s own as well. The big bops and the fun youthful energy of the album make this for me. Serves: Fake, Everywhere, Happy Without Me Quote Gorgeous and dreamy album from Ariana mostly on love, dealing with negative emotions and negativity which is really relevant in her life rn. Such an amazing era for her in terms of music. Serves: Get Well Soon, Sweetener, The Light Is Coming Quote So different from Body Talk but still such a great pop album (that was worth the wait tbh). Her sound is alot more immersive on this and is such a fun listen from start to finish. The transition from baby forgive me to send to Robin immediately whew.. I get wet. Serves: Beach 2k20, Ever Again, Honey Quote Janelle really shows herself on dirty computer and I can't help loving every bit of her. On the surface, a great, cohesive tale and underneath (and very easy to see) an album on being a queer black woman in America and still living with so much pride. A gift to the girls n gays filled with bops(Make Me Feel, I Got The Juice, Pynk) and even tear jerkers (So Afraid, Don’t Judge Me). 20Gayteen really did that. Serves: Make Me Feel, I Like That, Django Jane and for my AOTY . . . . Quote I initially wrote a rant about this but in summary the music is excellent but the entire era is garbage dumpster juice and it took a level of delusion and willful ignorance to not let Nicki Minaj ruin my favorite album of 2018. Like I can't bop to Sir without thinking of her flop tour that will probably get cancelled.. all the singles with their half baked visuals... her boasts on being the baddest and knowing her worth only to act a fool with a loser rapist with 5 kids Glad she ended herself right before a lot of my favorite female rappers are getting some success. So shout out to Rico Nasty, Junglepussy, Asian Doll, Jean Deaux, Cardi B, Saweetie, Kash Doll, Noname, Princess Nokia, Leikeli47, Bali Baby, Cupcakke, Tommy Genesis Serves: Coco Channel, Miami, Chun Swae, Chun- LI
Vilppu Posted January 2, 2019 Posted January 2, 2019 (edited) i don't get the rosalia/kacey hype but i'm glad gorgeous women are getting their due respect. correct standouts for both too x edit: oh top 10 n isolation slay and slay all day, DC/sweetener are ok ig but top 10 seems a bit high, HAH/honey i don't rly care for. v shocked at the #1 tbh i still didn't listen to it but chun li/barbie tingz were surprisingly good so maybe the album is good too Edited January 2, 2019 by Vilppu

Dom Posted January 2, 2019 Posted January 2, 2019 Honey is soo good, u lucky u made it 1, beach, or else you would have rotted. Sweetener is amazing as well. minus nicki feature.
fossora Posted January 2, 2019 Posted January 2, 2019 I stan @ #14 #9 #3 mess at #2 and #1, but I do prefer #1 over #2
Remmy Posted January 2, 2019 Posted January 2, 2019 I've heard the whole top 4 but there's only one that I really really enjoyed The other 3 are in the lower half of my list. Dirty Computer >>>>>>>>>>> Honey > Sweetener > Queen Ugh I really wish I could relate to your opinion on Nicki's album, for me it's easily her worst release. For Ari/Robyn I enjoy half of the tracklist while the rest isn't too cute. Oh at you being #TeamPharrell Janelle obviously snapped, we all been knew at this point. Ever Again, Make Me Feel, Django Jane and Chun-Li in your standouts
Jet Posted January 3, 2019 Posted January 3, 2019 I approve of the top 4 The order is debatable but the right albums are there
Staryu Posted January 3, 2019 Posted January 3, 2019 Kacey, Kali, Florence, Robyn,Nicki love them as artists, but High as Hope/Queen were kind of bad for me, especially High as Hope. I stanned Nicki for awhile but the whole Queen era has turned me off I did love Chun Li though + her Transformer verse slays + her verses on Chun Swae if only it had less Swae, still a little because I like him but 6mins+ with that repetitive chorus ugh
