theblackestday Posted December 24, 2018 Posted December 24, 2018 EPHORIZE, SSSS, PRIMAL HEART AND CITY GIRLS OVER NASTY???
ATRL Moderator Tsareena Posted December 24, 2018 Author ATRL Moderator Posted December 24, 2018 40 - 36 Quote Definitely a grower for me. The songs are well thought out and for a lo-fi debut it's still very enjoyable and not samey. Tirzah has a very direct approach when singing about love and emotions so they tend to punch a bit too had ? . The title track is especially gorgeous Serves: Devotion, Basic Need, Holding On Quote I heard she was going to change the cover for this since the artist got accused of sexual abuse. Anyways, Noname did that on her debut. Love how she raps. It's so easy and effortless but still really engaging. Telefone blended together for me but this has some amazing standouts that makes the difference in her more relaxed rap style. Serves: Montego Bay, Regal, Ace Quote Great debut album from Hayley. There's a lot of individuality here and when it's queer, it's even better. The production is amazing and you can tell Hayley was ambitious with this record. Feelings was such an amazing lead for this.. still slaps so hard a year after. Serves: Feelings, He'll Never Love You (HNLY), Palm Dreams Quote honestly too low but meh such an amazing album. I initially didn't like this but it's really grown on me. Her lyricism on this is so simple and so clear that it's easy to get and feel what she's singing on. The songs on loneliness hit the hardest for me. A great record overall! So many serves Serves: Pink In The Night, Come Into The Water, Lonesome Love, (+ the singles ) Quote I don't even know what made me check this out but it's a great pop album. A lot of bops and the production especially is very distinct from synth pop albums today. I particularly enjoyed the obsessive love and sensuality she sings about on this. "If it looks good then I always taste it.... if it feels good then I don't want to waste it" Serves: Lula Loves You, The Ghost Ship, Triumph Over Me
Blue Rose Posted December 24, 2018 Posted December 24, 2018 (edited) Lykke and Alina by the way, I listened to Adeline and it was amazing. You kinda underrated her. There’s a little Solange (maybe Sandcastle Disco era) but Adeline is a better vocalist. Edited December 24, 2018 by Superpower

Lazuli Posted December 25, 2018 Posted December 25, 2018 so sad so sexy so hated so overlooked so done wrong!!! Devotion Mitski is too low indeed!
ATRL Moderator Legend E Posted December 25, 2018 ATRL Moderator Posted December 25, 2018 oh idk these again
Kevin2803 Posted December 25, 2018 Posted December 25, 2018 Expectations was kinda good. I love some songs, but i for some songs i don't care at all.
ATRL Moderator madonnas Posted December 25, 2018 ATRL Moderator Posted December 25, 2018 City Girls, Cupcakke, Mitski, Makes up for Tizrah!! Hayley is ambitious yes. TBH the album sounds like Demi trying to make her own Melodrama.
TheWayWeWere Posted December 25, 2018 Posted December 25, 2018 Hayley pretty solid debut BTC is so low
Pink Matter Posted December 25, 2018 Posted December 25, 2018 Noname and Mitski Sooo many good albums ranking low makes me wonder what your top 10's going to look like I've been wondering about Alina Baraz since I've seen some talk around her. Might check her out.
Vilppu Posted December 25, 2018 Posted December 25, 2018 some pretty good albums in the last 10 (most of all, mitski and noname) but the order kinda a mess hmm
World Eater Posted December 25, 2018 Posted December 25, 2018 LEG, SOPHIE, Lykke, Cupcakke, Tirzah, Mitski Female EXCELLENCE

ATRL Moderator Tsareena Posted December 26, 2018 Author ATRL Moderator Posted December 26, 2018 35 - 31 Quote Leikeli47 did that again. Acrylic has the bops I'm always excited to hear from her.. bops you just want to vogue to. But she also adds some interesting introspective moments to this that shows her versatility as a rapper. I particularly liked the skits (Walk-Ins to Acrylic) and Roll Call since it's a shout out to HBCU's and black greek organizations. Serves: Roll Call, Post That, Full Set ( A New Style) Quote I had low expectations but I'm glad Cardi delivered. The production is stellar and the lyricism plays to Cardi's biggest strength which is her delivery. Songs like Be Careful and Thru Your Phone add the needed depth to separate this from a regular trap album with the added personality. The real standouts are still the bops though. Serves: Bickenhead, Bartier Cardi, Money Bag Quote An amazing debut... only checked out cuz of how gorgeous the album cover was . Smooth, inspired by the 90's and still so distinct with multiple influences from Afrobeats to House music without losing cohesiveness. The transition from Honeywheat to Addicted is so gorgeous and I kept going back to those tracks. Serves: Honeywheat, Addicted, Control Me Quote Laurel has a really unique voice paired with guitars that made me keep coming back to this. The melodies are really gorgeous and there's really no weak track on this. Focused on a more chaotic take on love.. it's beautiful, sad and kinda nostalgic. Reminds me a bit of London Grammar's debut and Lana's Ultraviolence but might be reaching a bit with that one Serves: Crave, Adored, Lovesick Quote Such a good debut album from Fickle Friends. More like a playlist of songs but the tracks on here are really strong (though some are old.. good thing I didn't know that before listening). I particularly love the summer vibes this had and found myself returning quite a bit. Fun and bubbly with some great thought out moments to balance things out. Serves: Swim, Useless, Brooklyn

Eeveelution Posted December 26, 2018 Posted December 26, 2018 Miss B made one or two points on IOP. Idk the others.
ATRL Moderator madonnas Posted December 26, 2018 ATRL Moderator Posted December 26, 2018 this sounds like every After Laughter/Emotion side B clone clown from 2016... but I like it Love Leikeli's album
theblackestday Posted December 26, 2018 Posted December 26, 2018 Leikeli47 did what she had to do. Cardi being just a spot above her though... the shade
Ewan Chaos Posted December 26, 2018 Posted December 26, 2018 I did not care for that Fickle Friends album outside of one song! idk why it was just a bit boring. I had the same view of CARDI B but I'm glad she smashed my expectations away. I agree that the bops are the best part, but I think Be Careful (of the deeper songs) is really underrated. I will forgive Kimbra being so low due to the fact that she's under my favorite & lucky number
Green Posted December 26, 2018 Posted December 26, 2018 Cardi surprised me with Invasion of Privacy. Amazing debut album
