Our Baskets payola worked!!

Only saw that & Insecure from this set though. Tried to watch Sally but the first ep was kinda boring + I was partially distracted. Caution is an interesting song choice.

Bubblin is a bop :katie2: he made some points with that one

Unknown Mortal Orchestra has always been a group that's interested me. I'll check out the song to see if it piques my interest.

as always, you're coming through with unknwon recommends, i have seen baskets mentioned a bunch but never bothered to watch it. same with insecure. the rest is all new to me.

room 104 is SUCH a mess, so inside nr. 9 seems really intruiging to me

TV:

#15 - #11

15. Sharp Objects – HBO

vV7p7ed.jpg

Honestly it just feels like a distant spin-off to Big Little Lies. There’s no originality about it except for the setting which was generally its biggest asset. I don’t really have much to say about the show. Great performances from the cast, brilliant job from JMV. Overall a nicely done psychological thriller that i enjoyed very much!

14. Babylon Berlin – Netflix

QkWA6tG.jpg

This could’ve been a strong contender for number one had I just seen the first season. It’s literally ****ing AWESOME. There’s a ton of characters and subplots all mashed together creating this mystery thriller set in 1920s Berlin. It’s crazy, outlandish and super fun to watch. I think I finish it all in two sittings. Then comes the second season which was a bore, maybe because I didn’t have enough historical knowledge or idk… The finale is definitely an improvement, tried to give closure to most of its storylines while giving some hints of its 1st season charm which is promising. Perched for S3!

13. Joe Pera Talks with You – Adult Swim

ELHtrDy.jpg

If you’re feeling alone, sad or bored and you’re in need of a distraction then I suggest you watch this little gem! Probably the closest thing I could think of to Enlightened (Best show of the decade btw, available on Amazon Prime). Both have this sweet, comfy vibe to them. They also share the most original, perplexing protagonists on TV. The humor is very subtle and reliant on the lead's gestures/interactions with the other characters. When I first started it I was like wtf am I watching?? The hell is this dude talking about?? Well it’s a collection of 10-28 min episodes where this guy called Joe Pera opens up about the most random topics that slowly delve into something deeply thoughtful. With each episode you get to learn more about Joe’s personality, relate to his level of devotion to his interests and get this beautiful image of his small town. It’s the perfect escapist TV we have rn.

12. Flowers – Channel 4

fjRlvOG.jpg

For those who don’t know abt the show. It’s a british dark comedy about a dysfunctional family trying to survive their everyday life despite their issues accompanied by an overly sympathetic Japanese illustrator. And get this: While Olivia Colman is amazing as usual, she’s not even the best part about it!! It’s everything you expected Maniac to address and yet failed... I mean you can tell the show is not using mental issues for ‘aesthetic’ purposes, they know what they’re talking about despite the comedy aspect. If you or your friend happen to deal with depression, i urge y’all to watch the first season. It has one of the best depression confession scenes I’ve seen on TV. Second season is a bit hard to get into. The absurdist side is much more present which might’ve messed with the show’s tone but the last two episodes legit broke me :jonny: I probably did not manage to describe the show very well but please watch it, it’s really worth it!

(TIE) 11. Pose/The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story – FX

lzZKKKT.png

It’s tricky when you know very well your audience. You can either milk them by making the same **** all over again (kind of like what Netflix is doing right now with shows like Insatiable, Sabrina, Elite etc…) or you could actually challenge them and make something that’s worthy of their attention especially when there’s an abundance of TV right now.

While this might seem like me coming out as a Ryan Murphy stan (lol no). I might start to change my view about him. Here’s what he recently said about his new direction:

Quote

“According to The Hollywood Reporter, Murphy made his creative feelings clear while in conversation with celebrity journalist Ronan Farrow […] “I’m not interested in shock value anymore,” he said, adding that he has “gotten away from sexuality and violence and how far I can push the envelope” in his recent work. “The new thing I’m doing focuses on [projects] that aren’t just not in my view. I’m working with young talent, trying to get them in the system and trying to change the system.”

X

And you could sense it through his new projects as well: Pose, which is developed by mostly transgender actors/writers. Is a risk that paid off well, since there’s an audience that’s craving quality content and it shows. All of the cast is top notch despite being nobodies. Mj Rodriguez alone displayed more emotion than Elizabeth Moss’ phony ass on THT. It’s a story about family, hope and survival with more heart and honesty, yet it didn’t back down from highlighting the intense struggles trans people faced at the time and the hypocrisy within the straight and gay community towards them.

As for ACS, it made the good decision of making Andrew Cunanan (brilliantly played by Darren Criss) the central focus of the season rather than Versace and shed light on the various, difficult topics of that time. Both stories involving Finn Wittrock and Cody Fern's characters are hard to go through. Basically the entire season was a difficult watch (but in a good way) which managed to send a strong message about the hardships of just being yourself.

I care a lot about the creator’s intentions behind their work whether it’s genuine or not, and based from these two shows i do believe that Murphy is determined to making ~good, entertaining, meaningful TV! (That is unless he goes back to his old antics with his Netflix deal then disregard my last sentence)

Crazy-ex has been good this season, but it's the last one so I'm gonna need them to step it up for the second half.

The creators of the show are saying the january episode will be their craziest yet so i'm hyped asf :duca:

The shortest show in here has the length of a 2 hour + movie! So yeah it can be time consuming lol but you get eventually rewarded when a show is good enough!!

There's a new addition to the top 10 TV bringing the total number of shows to 27. Coming tuesday or wednesday!

While I like the story Pose told, real transgender actors and the risk it took, the acting itself is really poor and often took me out of it. I haven't even finished the show because if it.

'Pose' and 'The Assasination of Gianni Versace' tied and both out of the top10.. I-

This set is a serve better than peak Serena could dream of.

Glad another breathing human being watched Joe Pera, I adored the show. Kinda agree with Pose/ACS being of similar quality to the point of a tie. I have Flowers S1 downloaded but haven't got to it yet.

And no, it's still **** Ryan Murphy.

Ahh thanks queen :jonny: Every episode of Joe Pera gets even better than its predecessor! Who needs ASMR when i could just watch him talking me to sleep.

The Joe Pera character is such a gentle soul, he's truly delightful to watch during a time where anti-heros are all the rage for leads.

Even if he's moving on from shock value, unless he takes a writing 101 class on how to not hamfist every damn message, apologizes for how he's written certain other marginalized groups, I'm always gonna have a stank face when his name comes up + while sitting through any show he's associated with. His personality is the PITS too! #TeamBryanFuller

happy to see feel like a fool, it's definitely an isolation highlight but i don't think that many people realise this? rosebud and short court style are really good too and like u is one of the better lovelyz album tracks for sure

Posted

Rosebud, Feel Like a Fool, Short Court Style :clap3:

Sharp Objects was fantastic, probably one of Amy's best performances of her career. It wasn't really anthing groundbreaking but it was constantly engaging and thrilling tbh.

Interesting to see Babylon Berlin here as a German. I heard raves about it and thats its one of the best series to ever come out of here, but the story and aesthetic doesn't really interest me to be honest.

Pose was amazing. Yes, it had some flaws, especially with acting, but it was so heartfelt and beautiful. It was constatnly feeling something while watching it. Ryan's best effort to date.

I haven't seen the new ACS, but I shall watch it soon. I liked the first season.

I read about Flowers before and actual legend Olivia is in it, but your description sold it to me. It looked too odd for me but knowing that it deals with mental illness too made me inch rested.
