Dom Posted December 15, 2018 Posted December 15, 2018 allie x is a queen and others are interesing. (i wrote interesting wrong, but i don't curr, i'm an illiterate hoe)
Vilppu Posted December 15, 2018 Posted December 15, 2018 rly enjoyed kilo's release she's a nice girl. never cared for allie too much but science may be my favourite song from her yet so i hope she keeps growing Quote the "girl of the month" thing, which led to a thousand theories from their biggest stans i can never decide whether loonaverse was brilliant or dumb, everything about it is vague and to me it seems like they came up with the concept 3 minutes before filming the videos but maybe that's also exactly the force that leads fans to creating these batshit crazy theories so as for the mini album i only liked hi high but that's fine, it's not like kpop album tracks matter anyway
TRF. Posted December 15, 2018 Author Posted December 15, 2018 - K, let's finish this! - - #05. Aphex Twin - 'Collapse' Genre: IDM - Maybe Aphex Twin's latest releases weren't the most inspired - honestly, after 'Syro' I personally had a hard time being captivated by the stuff he kept releasing. But I can honestly see myself replaying 'Collapse' a lot. It is clear that he has been influenced by a wave of new producers - namely Jlin and other footwork acts - and this works to his favor, as it is probably the most inventive and genuinely innovative his music has sounded in a long, long time. Every time in a while it is good to be reminded why Aphex Twin is as loved as he is, and this record really does it. - LISTEN You'll like it if you like: Aphex Twin's best releases, Jlin, Squarepusher, Venetian Snares, RP Boo, LFO Highlights: "T69 Collapse", "1st 44", "abundance10edit[2 R8's, FZ20m & a 909]" - - #04. Bad Gyal - 'Worldwide Angel' Genre: Reggaeton, Alternative R&B - Barcelona singer Alba Farelo a.k.a. Bad Gyal is one of the most exciting artists in the rising "neoperreo" wave, which led other people like Tomasa del Real, Ms. Nina, Audri Nix or La Favi to bigger popularity. While this lacks a huge single such as her breakthrough "Fiebre", this is still her best release to date, bringing the confidence of iconic female reggaeton figures like La Factoría or Ivy Queen with modern production brought by producers such as Kelela collaborators Jam City and Dubbel Dutch or people like D33J and El Guincho. It's as fun as music can get in 2018! - LISTEN You'll like it if you like: Palmistry, La Factoría, Ivy Queen, Charli XCX, Tomasa Del Real, Organ Tapes Highlights: "Internationally", "Tra", "Yo sigo iual", "Candela", "Blink", "Tu moto", "Realize" - - #03. Laurel Halo - 'Raw Silk Uncut Wood' Genre: Ambient - 'Dust', released last year, was probably Laurel Halo's most traditionally "pop" release to date. By no means was it something you would hear on the radio or anything of the sort, but it had more melodies and hooks than you would expect it to, and many song-like structures as well. 'Raw Silk Uncut Wood' has nothing of the sort, though, as it is an ambient EP/mini-album more than anything. That does not make it any less interesting, however, since you can hear how experimental it is most of the time, it has very strong jazz and classical music influences and it truly feels like an organic listening experience, truly makes you feel in the same way its cover is presented. - LISTEN You'll like it if you like: LAM, Tim Hecker, William Basinski, Eli Keszler Highlights: "Raw Silk Uncut Wood", "Mercury", "Quietude", "Nahbarkeit" - - #02. Jenny Hval - 'The Long Sleep' Genre: Art Pop, Progressive Pop, Dark Jazz - When Jenny Hval first released "Spells", I expected her to go in a poppier direction for this EP. It was probably the most accessible song she has ever done, basically a jazz-pop song with the most beautiful melodies possible. And while saxophones and jazz are present in the rest of 'The Long Sleep', this is not exactly the easiest listen possible. But that makes it even more interesting. Each track of the release sounds like an alternative version of the opening track, as if it were from different stages of sleep, making the whole EP to be an experience of its own. It is an extension of Hval's artistry and another reason why she's one of the most important artists of this decade. - LISTEN You'll like it if you like: Kate Bush, The Blue Nile, Julia Holter, Stars of the Lid, Angelo Badalamenti & David Lynch Highlights: the EP as a whole is meant to be listened as one, but like... "Spells" - - #01. Shygirl - 'Cruel Practice' Genre: Industrial Hip Hop, Deconstructed Club, UK Bass - First thing you hear when pressing play on this is the sound of alarms going off. It makes sense, as literally everything that goes after is literally fire. In only 13 minutes, London vocalist/DJ Blane Muise a.k.a. Shygirl, with assistance of Sega Bodega and Dinamarca in production, comes through with some of the most fun, abrasive, and intense music of the year, finding a midpoint between British rap and club music, taking inspiration in genres such as grime, reggeaton, funk carioca or 2-step as well. Muise doesn't dissapoint with her performance either, as she delivers lots of sick lines with a great flow in the most deadpan-yet-confident way possible. It's just 5 tracks long, but it is essentially all-killer, no-filler, and it will be extremely hard to find something with as much replay value as this. - LISTEN You'll like it if you like: Dizzee Rascal, Amnesia Scanner, Kamixlo, Danny Brown, M.I.A., SOPHIE Highlights: like... every track

Pink Matter Posted December 16, 2018 Posted December 16, 2018 I'm gonna try giving Laurel another chance because I feel her music sounds like a lot of background noise. Like maybe it's too ambient? I guess at the very least it'd be good for studying
