Method #1, get the QQ music app and search for the artists and/or albums. Method #2, use a mobile browser on your phone or tablet. In the album rankings section of QQ Music, we can select the weekly rankings and select the correct week for the album you want. e.g. Melodrama was released in 2017 week 25 where it peaked at #2, so we can select that week in the browser interface. QQ Music — album rankings: https://y.qq.com/m/client/ranklist/sell.html?_hidehd=1&_hdct=2&g_f=album_mall0 The direct mobile browser link to Melodrama is here: https://y.qq.com/m/digitalbum/gold/index.html?id=1877406 Reputation - Taylor Swift https://y.qq.com/m/digitalbum/gold/index.html?id=2795962 The Thrill of it All - Sam Smith https://y.qq.com/m/digitalbum/gold/index.html?id=2547746 Once you have located the album, select the certification symbol in the mobile browser and this will open the page showing the certification dates and progress towards the next certification. The numbers displayed for each album are single units. From my understanding the thresholds are based on revenue, not sales volume, so if the artist discounted the album it might take more single units to get the certification. Filipe Salvador Posted August 26, 2018 Posted August 26, 2018 15 hours ago, peterstyles13 said: What is QQ Music? QQ Music is the biggest music application in the world. It is used by over 700M Chinese users. Just like iTunes, you can purchase albums through the app. It is owned by Tencent, the fifth largest company on the globe. How does it work? The certifications are based on revenue and overall downloads of the album. For example, an album needs ¥3,000,000 of revenue to be certified 3x Platinum. If an album costs ¥5, that means it has to sell 600,000 copies before it can get the certification. Most western albums are around ¥18 to ¥20. When you select popular albums, you will see a number appear. For example, when you click on Ariana's Dangerous Woman, QQ Music claims almost 1.87M "single sheets" of the album have been downloaded. That does NOT mean the album has been downloaded 1.87M times. To know the amount of time an album has been sold, you need to divide that number by the amount of tracks on the album (including the deluxe tracks). Dangerous Woman has 15 tracks. 1,867,772/15 = 124,158 albums sold. On average, that album was sold for ¥20, which brings its revenue total to around ¥2.5M. Like I said, the threshold to be certified 3x Platinum is ¥3,000,000, which explains why QQ claims Dangerous Woman is 55% completed for 3x Platinum. How much is each certificate worth?

Is there a way to manually search for the album/artist? I highly doubt Little Mix ever charted in there and I’m curious if they have “sold” albums there.

Searching in the QQ music app, glory days platinum edition appears to be there, but I don't see it charting in weeks where I thought it might be, so I'm not sure how to check if it was certified or not.

beatinglikeadrum Posted August 26, 2018 Posted August 26, 2018 (edited) Witness is 5xplatinum in China though. Universal said that, Katy posted video about that, KatyPerryChina posted about that. Edited August 26, 2018 by beatinglikeadrum
evtimow Posted August 26, 2018 Posted August 26, 2018 (edited) So basically reputation sold 700K pure copies in China. Wow, that's really good. And 1989 sold 643K copies? If my logic is correct lol Edited August 26, 2018 by evtimow

Universal said that, Katy posted video about that, KatyPerryChina posted about that. The certifications you're talking about and the QQ Music's certifications are totally different. QQ Music certifications = digital sales from that app only. China's "official" certifications are controlled by the State Administration of Radio and Television. They are extremely unreliable, don't count all the different music service/platforms and only certify some albums. If they counted QQ Music, Reputation, for example, would be certified something like 35x Platinum based on that one platform alone . They need to revamp the way they certify albums tbh. If my logic is correct lol It's impossible to know exactly how much albums sell in China overall. What we do know is that reputation is the best-selling digital album of all time by a western artist, while 1989 is the second best-selling. Numbers from QQ Music and NetEase (another popular music app) give us a clear indication. Reputation was bought around 649K times on QQ Music, while 1989 was bought around 644K times. Reputation was bought around 541K times on NetEase, while 1989 was bought around 314K times. Total (based on 2 digital platforms): Rep = 1.19M, 1989 = 958K. This excludes all the other digital apps and physical sales. Keep in mind that despite being one of the fastest-moving market, digital sales in China are still not counted towards an artist's catalogue sales by chart blogs like Mediatraffic or Chartmaster. peterstyles13 Posted August 28, 2018 Author Posted August 28, 2018 'Bloom' by Troye Sivan is currently #1 on QQ Music's daily album chart and already #2 on their weekly album chart! Meanwhile, 'Sweetener' by Ariana is down to #4 on their weekly chart, '1989' by Taylor moves up to #7 while reputation stays at #9 and 'Queen' by Nicki falls to #12. 'Bloom' is now certified Gold and has been added to the OP!

peterstyles13 Posted July 28, 2019 Author Posted July 28, 2019 Updated every album and added the ones that became certified since. As far as I know, these are the only western albums that reached any certification threshold on QQ Music. Feel free to let me know if I missed one!
