peterstyles13 Posted August 25, 2018 Author Posted August 25, 2018 (edited) What is QQ Music? QQ Music is the biggest music application in the world. It is used by over 700M Chinese users. Just like iTunes, you can purchase albums through the app. It is owned by Tencent, the fifth largest company on the globe. How does it work? The certifications are based on revenue and overall downloads of the album. For example, an album needs ¥3,000,000 of revenue to be certified 3x Platinum. If an album costs ¥5, that means it has to sell 600,000 copies before it can get the certification. Most western albums are around ¥18 to ¥20. When you select popular albums, you will see a number appear. For example, when you click on Ariana's Dangerous Woman, QQ Music claims almost 1.87M "single sheets" of the album have been downloaded. That does NOT mean the album has been downloaded 1.87M times. To know the amount of time an album has been sold, you need to divide that number by the amount of tracks on the album (including the deluxe tracks). Dangerous Woman has 15 tracks. 1,867,772/15 = 124,158 albums sold. On average, that album was sold for ¥20, which brings its revenue total to around ¥2.5M. Like I said, the threshold to be certified 3x Platinum is ¥3,000,000, which explains why QQ claims Dangerous Woman is 55% completed for 3x Platinum. Keep in mind QQ Music is only one of multiple music applications in China. This is not the "official" Chinese certifications, which are unreliable. QQ Music has the most reliable and transparent numbers to evaluate China's digital music market. Edited September 22, 2018 by peterstyles13

Thanks.
atishvaze Posted August 25, 2018 Posted August 25, 2018 The gap between Taylor and the rest what about Beyoncé?

Thanks. Unfortunately, they are not certified. I think Square Up can't be certified because it only has 4 tracks. 5 minutes ago, atishvaze said: The gap between Taylor and the rest what about Beyoncé? Right and nah, not yet anyways. QQ Music is fairly recent, so don't expect her old albums to be certified. I could maybe see Everything Is Love ending up Gold tho.
MileyRayChrist Posted August 25, 2018 Posted August 25, 2018 can you post the screenshot of sweetener?

Agenor Posted August 26, 2018 Posted August 26, 2018 @peterstyles13 Buddy, been doing some math, and it seems that platinum on that Chinese app is equivalent to 11.5k albums sold in the US.
