Always wonder how high 1989 would be if it was on spotify for its first 3 years.. probably lower half of top 10
and if it didnt split streams with 1989 (TV) now it could have gone up even higher 

Also side note, i'd love a list that combines Spotify + YT streams but i know thats a lot of work ( for example Ed's Divide has an INSANE amount of streams on YT .. like 15B+ so i feel like Divide gotta be by far the most streamed album overall still)

yes i've thought ab that too but getting the data would be insane... to do this i take the chart from chartmasters and then on excel i calculate the streams gained and positions climbed/fallen and its kinda easy but there's no definitive data on yt streams for each album so i would have to do it manually. maybe if i ever learn programming i could set up a programme to do it for me but i dont think i will ksks but i agree it would be very interesting, and a lot more latin albums/older albums would make it to the chart

This update is not that interesting, maybe I should do it every three months instead of every two. 

 

Sweetener left the chart which makes me so sad :( But Red TV entered! This means that now the tie for most entries between Ariana and Taylor is broken, as Ariana has 4 entries and Taylor has 6.

 

Also, Lover will enter the Top 10 pretty soon. It is also very interesting to see the resurgance of albums like Blonde or Hozier, older albums that have been discovered again, or whose singers are becoming more mainstream, and they are slowly climbing positions (like what happened with Lana and Born to Die or AM).

 

Hope you liked the update : ) what do you get from it? any other reflections? also, do you prefer i do it every 3/4 months to see a higher contrast?

HELLO EVERYONE! I'm sorry for the late update, but this way it's more interesting!

 

Let's break it down:

 

Biggest jumps:

1. Mañana Será Bonito - Karol G (+18)

2. Blonde - Frank Ocean (+10)

3. SOS - SZA (+9)

4. Graduation - Kanye West (+8)

5. Unorthodox Jukebox - Bruno Mars, Good Girl Gone Bad - Rihanna, Red (Taylor's Version) - Taylor Swift (+7)

 

It is very interesting to see that, apart from Karol G's and SZA's, which are relatively new, the biggest jumps here are from old albums. Nostalgia is kicking in, some songs are getting viral, and it is easier for these type of albums to climb positions bc the ones that are around them in the chart are not getting that 'boost'. 

 

This is also shown if we look at the most streamed albums, which are usually already at the top, and therefore it is much more difficult to climb positions. 

 

Most streamed:

1. SOS - SZA

2. Un Verano Sin Ti - Bad Bunny

3. Lover - Taylor Swift (beating the flop allegations once again, it's about to enter the Top 10)

4. Starboy -  The Weekend

5. Sour - Olivia Rodrigo 

6. Mañana Será Bonito - Karol G -> while it has a crazy jump, it ranks 6th in most streamed

 

Biggest drops:

1. What Is Love? - Clean Bandit (-9)

2. No6 Collaborations - Ed Sheeran, Different World - Alan Walker (-8)

3. American Teen - Khalid, Love Goes - Sam Smith (-7)

 

kinda mad that sam smith altered the chart like that when clearly his discography is not that powerful rn

 

What to comment?

Taylor keeps climbing and having some of the most streamed albums. She renews her record as the artist with the most albums in the Top 100 with 7 albums! Talk about power

 

Ariana's discography has not recovered after the release of Eternal Sunshine and keeps dropping, Positions will be out of the top probably by the next update. Makes me so sad :( she deserves more, but it's true she has never been an artist whose numbers have been driven by her albums as a whole.

 

Artists like Lana, AM, and Frank Ocean are climbing and getting very streamed, these 'alt' artists are some of the most mainstream atp

 

and Teenage Dream keeps climbing positions in every update. People still like and consume Katy Perry! just not the current one... oops.
