conatus Posted May 7, 2018 Posted May 7, 2018 Also, when I write lately the structure of the songs always seems to be the same so I'm glad me going out of my comfort zone and playing with structure a bit isn't getting me dragged left, right, and center.
ceremonials Posted May 7, 2018 Posted May 7, 2018 Wait not my “couplet” being the only one that’s capitalized interesting

I was really not feeling well yesterday my mind was all over the place. You did better than last week, I want you to know that.

I was hesitant since the two verses are basically the same with a couple lyrics changed for effect. But I'm glad it paid off! I personally love how the verses are the same but the inverse of each other. I did it before a few seasons above with a light-dark contrast and the judges loved it too nnn I don't do it often but when I do, I make sure it slays! I was so scared y'all would drag me for it but I guess I executed it well. It's also why I put a lot of effort into my bridge this week so that my song doesn't come across as "lazy". although I will say that it's very convenient to do that same-verses-but-with-some-differences trick when you have writer's block fff the second verse is always such a BITCH to write. Okay but this is literally how basically every single one of my songs are written

Hug Posted May 7, 2018 Posted May 7, 2018 Also #tbt to when uvie said he'd be writing a song this week

Galah Posted May 8, 2018 Author Posted May 8, 2018 Realistically, ATRL is still too unstable to even attempt results. We are sorry for the delays but it's honestly out of our hands at this point. North America, Europe and Oceania have all reported final PHU sales data and expect Asia to report sales data soon. We are unsure if we are able to establish a secure connection with South America at this time and sales data may have to be averaged out among the other continents. Episode 3 will be officially announced soon. Until then, leaked information suggests that songwriters will be expected to write a song inspired by fan-favourites such as Run Away With Me, Into You, Teenage Dream, New Romantics, Toxic etc. Feel free to take this brief and use it as a head-start for your next submission. More details to be announced in the official challenge post. If you haven't already, I'd strongly suggest you download the Discord app and join us on the official Platinum Hit Discord server (link located in the OP). It's much more stable than ATRL at the moment. We have 30+ members and counting!

If I write something based off this info I'm not changing it, if you add something else to the challenge later on. Ain't nobody got time for no damn redos.

What we're not looking for are clones of popular songs; perhaps trying to unpack the themes of a popular song and build a new song around one key element, while retaining a certain aptitude for radio airplay. 3 hours ago, RihsusChrist(ATG) said: So basically write a campy pop song? Always keep in mind the fact that Platinum Hit is a lyric writing tournament first and foremost. You don't have a gorgeous melody or a bop production to fall back on like some fan-favourite songs do, so you have to make sure your themes, structure and techniques are what scream radio friendly, not necessarily the lyrics. We don't want a bunch of "oohs" and "yeahs", and "baby" to be every second lyric. Writing a really good pop song is harder than one might think, and this challenge will probably require more thought, not less. We're looking for that perfect balance. My #1 song from Episode 2 is what I'd consider a radio friendly pop song.
Galah Posted May 8, 2018 Author Posted May 8, 2018 Also, we have results for Episode 2. I'll get to work on pre-formatting and then we can find out how everyone did at a time that works for a majority of people (assuming ATRL doesn't break again).

ATRL Moderator Tsareena Posted May 8, 2018 ATRL Moderator Posted May 8, 2018 Saintwest: Anyways. I’m going to give you some honest advice because you have a lot of potential: pop song derivatives do not work in PH Round 3: Pop song derivative
Galah Posted May 8, 2018 Author Posted May 8, 2018 Suddenly I regret giving y'all a challenge preview. Y'all ungrateful and hateful and I feel very attacked!
