Aurora Posted July 16, 2018 Author Posted July 16, 2018 Episode 10: "Final Touches" First and foremost, on behalf of everyone at Platinum Records around the globe, I would like to congratulate the four of you on your very successful rise to prominence across Platvia’s global music scene, and thank you for your hard work and determination during the Q2 release schedule. As it’s now Q3, we’re getting ready to launch our artists’ debut albums, beginning with the four of you! For this final episode of Platinum Hit 12: Stardom, the four of you will be competing for the ultimate prize and the right to call yourself a true Superstar. However, each of you are at different places in your careers with different strengths and weaknesses, so we’ve hired you each a personal A&R to tailor a finale that’s unique to you. The core challenges will be the same for you all, but there will be individual components specifically designed to test you. At the end of this episode’s deadline, you will submit your 8-track debut album to be released globally via Platinum Records. Don’t stress, half of your album is already done! The label have selected your four biggest commercial successes since your signing as an artist to be included on your debut album: ceremonials minho UFO Gastrodonatella "Redemption" "Sentimenal" "Gaia" "Starlight on the Ocean Floor" "Symphony of the Night" "fountain" "Hummingbird" "Good Boy" "Silent Hills" "Tell Me Your Story" "Hyperreality" "Firefly Symphony / Blue Ghost" "Goldenrod" "Rain Sonata" "Dance in the Rain" "Janine" PHU the above songs sold in previous episodes will be taken into account when calculating your final album sales total at the end of the week. 10 track downloads = 1 album sale, so this will effectively only be a small boost to your overall total (this is the "average" component of this season's finale). Just to be clear, you don't have to resubmit or rework any of the above songs. ✪ ✪ ✪ Episode 10.1: "Yin and Yang" Your first challenge is to select one of your current album tracks (listed in the table above) and write a "sister" song that's its opposite, yet also its accompaniment. Your song can be a prequel/sequel from a different perspective, a vastly different song with one key overlapping theme, a different interpretation of the same events, version from an alternate universe… any way you can think to write a song which stands tall on its own, but also elevates one of your previous entries when read side by side. You all have very different albums so far and themes to work with, and finding the opposition of your own song may just be the ultimate test. Episode 10.2: "Reverse Engineering" Your second challenge is one that will prove whether or not you are truly better than your competitors. As you would already know, each artist had their lowest-selling single scrapped from their album. Now is your time to redeem yourself, or rather, someone else. Each of you will write a song with the same title as another artist's scrapped song (that is, their least-successful single since their signing as an artist in Episode 5). ceremonials: "Anger Point" (originally by Gastrodonatella) minho: "Shadow of the Colossus" (originally by ceremonials) UFO: "Skeleton Flower" (originally by minho) Gastrodonatella: "Oblivion" (originally by UFO) There are no thematic restrictions with this challenge, but will you be able to give these song titles the justice that they deserve? NOTE: To keep difficulty levels fair, UFO's title was shortened from "Tonight / Skeleton Flower (산하엽)", however, this title may be used if UFO chooses to do so. Episode 10.3: "Balance Is Elemental" Your third challenge is a twist on an old favourite from six seasons ago, halfway between Platinum Hit's original season and today's finale. The elements are a common source of inspiration for many writers, and some of the greatest songs this tournament has ever produced have revolved around water, earth, fire and air. Due to this, however, it takes a lot to impress with an elemental imagery song as the standard has been set so high. You will each be assigned an element, but must also incorporate one chemical element of your choosing. From gold and silver to neon and radium, chemical elements have made an appearance in many PH songs over the years, albeit not as common as the classical elements. ceremonials: Air minho: Earth UFO: Fire Gastrodonatella: Water For reference, our social media bloggers have found an expansive Periodic Table to assist you with your decision. Do you have what it takes to elevate a simple elemental imagery song into a nuclear explosion of memorable moments? Episode 10.4: "Uncovered" While you were all signed in Episode 5, we acknowledge that you all wrote some fantastic songs for our other artists during your time as demo songwriters for our label in Episodes 1–4. There must be one of those songs that you just wish you'd been able to keep for yourself, right? Well, we're letting you include an acoustic cover of one of the hits you wrote for another artist (that is, you must rewrite, retouch or simply resubmit one of your entries from the first four episodes of this season). If you choose to resubmit the song you wrote during the trio collaboration challenge in Episode 4, you must rewrite any parts that you weren't originally credited for. These songs will be re-scored, even if no changes have been made. Will your rendition of an old hit for another artist prove even more successful than its original release? ✪ ✪ ✪ I understand this is a lot to take in, but we didn't want to make this a breeze. Take your time and read everything carefully, and feel free to ask any questions you may have. In short, you are writing 3 new songs and resubmitting 1 old song. You will have just over one full week (7 days) to submit your entries; I would recommend spending 2 days on each of your new songs and 1 day on your resubmission, but ultimately how you manage your time is up to you. While it won't be scored, feel free to submit your 8-track album with an album cover/title/track list order etc. to make it really "feel" like an album release. Songs due (via PM to @Aurora) by Mon. Jul 23, 11:59AM EST @ceremonials@minho@UFO@Gastrodonatella Good luck!
UFO Posted July 16, 2018 Posted July 16, 2018 Skeleton Flower hmmm interesting, we'll see what happens okay so I can choose between Island, Rings of Saturn, The Renaissance and Eternities Apart for 10.4 okay cool ooh wow okay. a CHALLENGE
UFO Posted July 16, 2018 Posted July 16, 2018 fun fact: Skeleton Flower, Shadow of the Colossus and Oblivion are all from the 7 Wonders of the World round.

I noticed that too. That episode deserved better tbh…was probably my favourite of the episodes this season. On a brighter note, all of your songs from last episode made the cut. So well done to you all for scalping in the semi-finals.
ceremonials Posted July 17, 2018 Posted July 17, 2018 I know it says we don’t HAVE to touch up/edit the four songs but does that mean we can if we want?

I wouldn't recommend it because the songs won't be rescored and you already have a lot to do this week, but they're your songs so feel free to do whatever you want with them. But it won't have any impact on your score, so I'd probably wait until after the finale if you want to tweak your other songs, or at least until you've finalised your 4 new songs and are at a stage where you're happy/ready to submit if that makes sense. Any updates to those songs would simply be personal decisions.

You tackled so many subjects and styles that are out of your usual while still retaining a significant style that we all know is yours. You even stepped out and scored a smash hit with an imagery song, your worst enemy. You were also my personal highest average until your final round. The summary is, you came and left this season as one of the most accomplished writers. The reality is that you bring a certain refreshing flair to your entries that no one else really has in Platinum Hit, which is why your style is so distinctive to begin with. You're also one of the easiest people to conversate, um... talk, with. You can't bring personality to writing if you don't have personality as a person. Truth be told, I'm shocked that I'm writing this tribute right now because you always seemed to be the one to beat. It just shows how unpredictable this game can be. And on a personal note, I do think that we got much closer throughout this season, and I'm sure that many others can say the same. I'm not hunting for your stats as I said, especially when the OP only goes up to episode 4, but we all know you came and slayed. You will always be the PH queen of storytelling, and, in my opinion, tone. Definitely an underrated aspect of your entries. Thanks love

Aurora Posted July 23, 2018 Author Posted July 23, 2018 10 hours until the deadline is due, wow that went fast! Two finale submissions in, two to go. Good luck all! @Gastrodonatella@minho@ceremonials@UFO
smholiv Posted July 23, 2018 Posted July 23, 2018 why was the deadline so early/in the morning? was it just so you could send the entries earlier?

It was just 7 full days from when I posted the challenge (+ I added a few extra hours to make it an even midday deadline so the final day wasn't too short), originally the challenge was going to be 6 days so… there was kind of an extension factored in. *** All finale docs have been forwarded to the judges, seriously good luck to you all. It's been a long and bumpy ride but you all made it.
SaintWest Posted July 24, 2018 Posted July 24, 2018 goodluck to everyone! except for @Gastrodonatella, i hope this is your downfall reviews coming shortly
UFO Posted July 24, 2018 Posted July 24, 2018 but like: can we talk about the Gaia/God Is A Woman parallels? sdlfksjdlk like before I was REACHING but like this time, there's no ****ing argument.
smholiv Posted July 24, 2018 Posted July 24, 2018 Are we getting the results/score tables too for this round? I don't remember if we got them for last round, but i want to see the finale scores

I didn't post them last results show because they were already very delayed and I didn't have a lot of time once the last scores came in so I just posted what was necessary. Also, nobody has mentioned them until now so I didn't think anyone actually checked for them honestly. But I can post last round's now. The final individual judge breakdowns probably won't come until after the winner is announced though otherwise y'all would be able to start doing math and that would spoil the big reveal.

UFO Posted July 25, 2018 Posted July 25, 2018 YAAAAAAAAAS Candles in the Sky is my favourite finale song too (mostly for the fact that it’s the most personal one) it’s the perfect closer imo, everything comes full circle I do think the transition in Tonight / Skeleton Flower pales in comparison to the verses but I was kind of going for that, I wanted it to be more blunt and straightforward. Also the transition is very necessary when it comes to the concept of a skeleton flower since the rain is so important so I wouldn’t delete it. However, I do agree that the verses are OUTSTANDING in comparison. Also this was my first time doing a split song and my first time doing a transition so I’m just proud of myself for accepting that challenge I totally could’ve just done Skeleton Flower but the Tonight part was the perfect set-up for the growth in Skeleton Flower Becoming Human definitely could’ve been more polished but I feel it would’ve come across as inauthentic or maybe unnatural and the other two entries I felt showcased enough technicality and polish for me to sacrifice it a little here. It could’ve been a lot tighter but I like the quirkiness of it and it fit the sinister atmosphere. It’s my heaviest song this season and for me one of my most fascinating, it was definitely a call-back to my old EuphorianSea style. It was nice to just write something and have fun without worrying too much. Also, I don’t think it’s THAT unpolished. It still retains lyrical sensibility. The verses are the most unpolished though, I must admit. But the pre-chorus and the bridge are incredibly tight imo and the chorus is a little weird but I think the repetition saves it. Becoming Human is my baby tbh. She’s a little busted but there’s something so appealing about her. I knew it would get criticised for more or less the same things that Hyperreality was criticised for, but I do believe there are just certain songs where you HAVE to take some liberty with it in order for the concept to truly shine. Yes it would’ve been nice for it to be more polished but I don’t think it would’ve elevated the song in a noticeable way. It would’ve just been the cherry on top imo, but the CAKE is already there. sjsjlllkk Rings of Saturn was ROBBED, it TOTALLY should’ve at least broke into the Top 10 but the original was definitely awkward so I hope I fixed that. for the retouch, I looked back at the original reviews and mostly focused my energy on those critiques (the hook was the biggest point of critique so I changed that completely). I think I could’ve perfected it a little more but I didn’t really see this song as a FINALE song (which is my mistake) but rather as its redemption nnnnn that and also I retouched it like 20 mins before the deadline instead of looking at each song individually, I think I looked at them more as a collective since the weaknesses in one song are made up for in another song which in a way both hurts and helps me. For example, Tonight / Skeleton Flower and Candles in the Sky were shorter and more polished whereas Becoming Human and Rings of Saturn were longer, less polished but imo more interesting concept-wise. I’ve never participated in a finale before so this was an amazing experience and a great accomplishment I can add to my legacy oftentimes since I participated in so many seasons, I always doubt my abilities and whether I can stay motivated. But this BURST of inspiration is mindblowing to me and everything is just great. I impressed you guys but, most importantly, I impressed myself and I still in disbelief but I know I DID THAT. Thank you for always understanding my art and appreciating it even though I know I’m not the most polished or “correct”! Your feedback has helped me a lot (no matter what some rat demon **** says)and even though I disagree with some of your critiques I alwayssssss treat each one with the same respect ( if you don’t believe me you can suck my alien dick), because what I see in my songs is obviously biased and every outsider perspective and interpretation matters (think what you want about me bitch. Mariah Carey has a song and it’s called Obsessed). For me I always want to evoke SOMETHING out of the audience and I think I’ve accomplished that more than enough. I stayed true to my UFO self this entire season and I already feel like a winner. oops a went a little awf there, I apologise (IDGAF! Dua Lipa did that)
UFO Posted July 25, 2018 Posted July 25, 2018 Also y’all can skip my explanations if you want, I mostly write them for insurance NNNNNN so basically the more I feel like a song will get heavily critiqued, the longer the explanation is I make them extra thorough so everything is accounted for my MIND. They’re also fun to write and help me gather my thoughts AND give a lot f insight to my songs. I never used to write explanations but now... I’m obsessed. My writing process is a kii. Ahhh my documentary is coming. N anyways Even though it may seem like I take agessssss writing my explanations, I really don’t I can whip up an essay in like 2 mins. I’m a really fast typer and it’s obvious from the way I type, I’m also a really fast talker irl My brain can process a lot of different thoughts at the same time in quick succession ffffdfdd me serving Trisha Paytas. I just NEED all my thoughts out there because I’m so used to being silenced d poor Becoming Human, I knew that bitch would get critiqued more than the others. she’s still my baby I’m so proud of the religious, philosophical, technological themes and exploring humanity but whew I KNEW she’d get some heat. It’s okay, Becoming Human, mommy loves you
