Is orb related to science?

Posted

[continued from Discord] to clarify, no, you don't have to write a song about a ghost or an orb! That's just the source of inspiration. I might do this challenge too since it seems kind of fun, my approach would be to look at the different orbs and the meanings they're meant to have and the colours they emit and try to think about a different scenario with the same or closely related meanings and themes. That's just one approach, the other judges may or may not like to share their thoughts or creative writing process. Star challenges can help if you have no idea where to start, they at least provide a direct insight into the kinds of things that would work for this challenge and may spawn other ideas of experiences of your own.

As with most inspiration challenges, the subject matter and structural elements of your song are completely open and up to you. Since the orbs are rather ambiguous with a lot of their meanings, it may help if you include a brief summary of which orb(s) you chose and how they're represented in your song.

alright, let me get to reading about these orbs and see if I can recognise any of my family members :celestial2:

and THEN I will start writing. I feel a little more, hmm, inspired is the wrong word because I've been very inspired these past 2 weeks but I've been a little slow at writing (for my standards). I guess I feel more "ready" this round than the previous two, so writer's block shouldn't be as much of a problem this week :duca:

oh wOw

All these different types of orbs, this is actually really interesting :jonny:  :jonny2:  I LOVE when a round is educational too.

@Corsola “Judas kiss” refers to Judas betraying Christ, which he did by kissing Jesus on the cheek (a pre-arranged signal to the Roman soldiers). It’s also the name of a gay movie, so it was a slight reference. The “betrayal” being referenced is made clear in the next line: “you say you’ll never leave me but I know it isn’t so.”

The phrase “forty days and forty nights” comes from the Bible, but I guess it’s not as obvious a religious reference as the other buzzwords I used. It’s really just a biblical way of saying “a really long time,” so nothing is missed by not catching it lol.

I definitely get what you mean about the “war” part of the song being “underbaked.” When I started writing, I had this sort of vague idea that the “holy war” was going to be like a metaphor for fighting for equality, but I scrapped that because I decided it didn’t really work. Instead, I decided to focus on the relationship and leave the war bit kinda open-ended. I actually wanted to add a line/couplet about how the narrator specifically didn’t think about the war because he wanted to focus on the little time left he had with his departing soldier, but I couldn’t really come up with anything and I thought the song did a decent enough job of conveying it without outright stating it. :cm:

Your favorite part is mine too. :heart2:

To paraphrase a legend

Once you've run 100 miles, 80 seems pretty weak. But if you've only run 20, then 30 sure is a milestone.

And that's all I have to say on that.

&To clarify that isn't meant to shade any of the contestants because I didn't read all reviews

@Corsola thank u sis, I guess I'll try to explain the reason why the narrator is warning the subject about profiting and prospering. So basically I wrote the song from the perspective of someone who "had it all" in their life, but was still unhappy and ended up committing suicide because they didn't care about the things that really mattered. So this person has come back as an orb/ghost/spirit who is trapped on earth until they warn someone they loved who was chasing the same things as they were. Once they fulfill their duty to warn the person, their ghost/orb will turn from grey/silver (which can symbolize a spirit that is trapped on this plane) to gold (which symbolizes unconditional love, protection, etc) and they will be able to proceed to the spiritual world.
