Rico Shameless v2
On 3/10/2018 at 7:46 PM, Domination said: Still not a mixtape. Mixtapes have had a legitimate for basically all of the word's use except for the past few years when every artists wants to call an album they want to be able to distance themselves from "a mixtape". Mixtapes don't usually feature mostly original productions and don't cost money. It’s really outdated to still see mixtapes as just free “street albums” that cost no money. The definition of a mixtape has shifted plenty by of times over the decades, this is no different. With the availability of streaming, it’s easier for rappers to distinguish what’s a side project and what’s a full length album. Today, it’s more about attracting new fans, whilst still being attractive to current fans. These huge major collab albums (Big Sean & Metro / 21 Savage & Offset) are another example. These clearly aren’t standalone eras. The songs that take on radio and streams and chart just happen to, due to rules of today. I mean, it honestly all does blend up at the end of the day but it’s time to stop seeing as artists trying to push off a potentially doomed project. Especially when they’ve usually received acclaim. Every rapper does this Lil Wayne, Drake, Migos, Future... This is a major improvement from BT1 which sold 19k first week and peaked at number 12. Isn’t that what Drake said about If You’re Reading This It’s Too Late and then he made physicals so now it’s an album?

No, because most of his first-week units are streaming whereas last time they were sales. He's still strongly fanbase-driven, though, so I would expect a drop of 70-75% or so.
