Divine
Why does everyone keep @'ing me saying Work Bitch is remembered? It's not Fine if you want to argue some of the others but... Edited March 5, 2018 by Divine
Year of Shadow
Also I should point out that Born to Make You Happy, Anticipating, And then we Kiss, Don't Let Me be the Last to Know weren't really released in the US, which is why they act as a stain on the list in the OP. And Me Against the Music came out right after Madonna's American Life so that song had no chance of smashing. Nowadays people push for singles like there's no tomorrow, because album sales are dying. Back then albums sales were all that mattered. That is why huge hits up until 2006 were selling just Gold or platinum.

Basing an argument on personal experience, lol. Oops!... I Did It Again is culturally relevant, its catchphrase is still strong to this day. http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/more-sports/gold-medal-winning-u-s-women-goal-named-britney-song-article-1.3835565

chosensparkles
Still an iconic career (minus the BJ album) but to be honest she didn’t need the #1s to be big, plus her album sold amazingly! 2 diamond albums is not nothing plus she impacted pop culture in a way that is bigger than most pop acts now

Many of the singles listed in the OP went number 1 WW. They performed much better outside of the USA.
