like only 13 top10s from 40+ songs :skull:

also they say radio ban, but singles before radio ban aint looking smashing either, just good..

Oops and Toxic at 9 :skull: classic example that ain't always bout the peaks or charts

majority of her top10s are from the 2nd half of her career.

what's happening here? the peaks are looking good but I'm expecting a lot better for her early singles.

Like 5 top10s only 9 years in her career. :skull:

it looks like she's an album artist before

then blackout

then single artist after

then end of commercial success in terms of chart performance

thoughts?

Radio ban and limited single releases to boost album sales

Charts veered to Hip hop and Rap around the Britney/ITZ era

No matter what atrl wants you to believe, her songs were never that big especially compared to how big she was a celebrity

This has been discussed many times :skull:

She barely released physical singles and suffered from radio ban a couple of years.

BOMT, Oops and TOXIC are bigger than most of ATRL Faves' songs tho.. but maybe aside from that everything UNDERPERFORMED.

Stay angry! :dies:

OP, Jive didn’t shift mass amounts of physical singles to stores. She had so many hits from each album, that people would just buy her actual album. Most of those peaks come from airplay alone.

Radio ban for supporting Pepsi and Jive was focused on moving album units over singles during BOTH peaks.

So I guess, that's their methodology to sell albums more..

I'm gonna need a legitimate source for this "radio ban".

Well in the grand scheme of things the peaks didn’t seem to matter because literally more than half of her singles could be considered classics.

i think that's kind of subjective.

but BOMT, OOPS and TOXIC are classics for sure.

I think that if you played most of her singles to the GP they’d know them and be like ‘omggggg I remember this!!!!’

Britney always appealed to white tween girls and gays. In her early years gays weren't darlings of the media or radio and no one cared about their patronage, and white girls wasn't enough. Christina appealed to a slightly older and more diverse audience which is why she became a radio darling in the US.

Yeah, basically. It paid off in the end though, because more people buying the album helped give wind to the rest of the singles.

https://web.archive.org/web/20031225154847/https://www.house.gov/berman/newsroom/clear_channel_letter.html

It has been reported that Clear Channel has “punished” recording artists, including Britney Spears, for their refusal to use its concert promotion service, Clear Channel Entertainment, by “burying” radio ads for their concerts and by refusing to play their songs on its radio stations.”

She barely released any songs physically for sale in her prime, even the ones that were doing well on radio, like Crazy, which would have been a easy #1 otherwise.

She was more of an album seller, also one problem with her hits is that they just appealed to pop formats so other panels weren't gonna touch them.
