touya kinomoto Posted April 13, 2018 Posted April 13, 2018 1. Ariana Grande - Touch It As soon as I saw this was your entry, I thought it's gonna be hard to be removed from my number one this round. This is the perfect entry though Honeymoon Avenue would also be a potential number one for me. I agree with @mxtthewdelrey that the Final Fantasy: Brave Exvius version is much better. That is where I actually heard this song first and loved it since then.2. Britney Spears - Anticipating I didn't know this is the title of this song. I knew this song sonce I was 10 and I love it ever since then. It's classic Britney that I like.3. Rihanna - Consideration ft. SZA I kinda find it weird that you feature an artist on the song that you "forced" her to give to you. LOL! But nonetheless, this is a great song and an absolute perfect choice for this round.4. Madonna - Devil Pray 5. Lea Michele - Heavy Love 6. Lady Gaga - Scheiße 7. Nelly Furtado - Afraid 8. Natalia Kills - Trouble9. Demi Lovato - Daddy Issues I think you are overthinking. This is not a bad choice tbh but it's just middling for me. Could have sent something from Demi or Confident. 10. Celine Dion - (You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman Okay let's get it straight. I don't have an issue with you sending a cover. But it has to be exceptional in order for it to rank high for me. But this is just an okay song for me. It also doesn't help that in terms of versions, I find Celine's inferior to Aretha's and Carole's. Aretha>>>>>>>>>>>Carole>>>Celine11. Mariah Carey - Make It Look Good Putting it last doesn't mean it is the worst. I just find it not as good as the others. There is too mich going on and I feel like there are much better choices for Mariah. My middle 5 is again okay, above average but Madonna and Lea actually surprised me.
Xedretinz Lododnz Posted April 13, 2018 Author Posted April 13, 2018 3 rankings left and 1 judge score. This could actually still change a lot
PinkBox Posted April 13, 2018 Posted April 13, 2018 Lemme explain my choice even if it might not have been the best : If you ignore the fact that it's a cover, it's an amazing song. If nobody knew it was a cover, I'm sure it would've been received better. When ranking the songs, we all ask "do I like this song?", but I didn't think most would ask themselves "is this version better than the others?" for my particular entry so the criteria and standards aren't the same. I understand how y'all judged though and it's fine, I just wanted to explain how I saw it

The thing is it does not really stand out for me this round given that we have exceptional entries from the rest. I hope you stay this round because I feel there is more that Celine can offer in this game.

This could actually still change a lot Knowing @prézli, she can change this entire round. 1. Natalia Kills - Trouble: You're truly the dark horse of this competition. Honestly, I have never listened to Natalia before, so thank you for introducing her to me. 2. Celine Dion - (You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman: You're lucky that you pick this song. I would've dragged you so hard for picking a cover, but fortunately, NM is probably one of my most favorite songs of all time. And it's Celine Dion with amazing vocals, I can't put it anywhere lower than this. 3. Rihanna - Consideration (feat. SZA): Yes, yes, and yes. This is probably one of the best opening tracks I've ever heard. I thought you'd make a mistake not picking songs from Unapologetic, but you prove me wrong. 4. Madonna - Devil Pray: I surprisingly love this. I haven't listened to Rebel Heart before, but if it has full of tracks like this, I'd love to listen to the album. 5. Mariah Carey - Make It Look Good: Maybe I'm listening to a different song from anybody else. Of course, You Don't Know What To Do is a better option, but this is not bad at all. 6. Lady Gaga - Scheiße: I like it. It's very catchy. However, the production is really 2010. It' sounds a bit dated but other than that, pretty nice one. 7. Katy Perry - Walking On Air: I think I've told you what I would send this round already. However, I rank you higher than I initially thought. Not because Walking On Air grows on me, it just happens that the other contestants submitted worse entries. 8. Ariana Grande - Touch It: The only good thing about this entry is that you submitted this instead of "I Don't Care." Honestly, you could have submitted "Just A Little Bit Of Your Heart," and I will give you #1 immediately. "Touch It" is probably one of my least favorite songs by Ariana together with "I Don't Care." If you want to pick an entry of DW, "Greedy" or "Bad Decisions" are amazing. 9. Lea Michele - Heavy Love: I really wish I could rank this higher because I'm a sucker for this type of ballad. However, this really disappoints me. I know Lea's vocal ability, and I wish she had done something more to this song. I feel like she's stuck in this production and can't give her all. 10. Nelly Furtado - Afraid: I'm afraid to tell you this, but this is my least favorite entry of yours so far. It's the combination of Nelly's enunciation and the production that really irks me. The last 20 seconds saves this from being last tho. Hope you won't be eliminated tho. I still expect more from you. 11. Britney Spears - Anticipating: I'm sorry, but this sounds so Disney Radio. I wish you would've sent something from Glory ("Liar," "What You Need") or "Up N Down" from Femme Fatale. I'm not an Army, so I don't know how much they love those songs. But as a casual fan, those are the highlights of Brit's career for me. Edited April 13, 2018 by lhdang2000

EriKills Posted April 13, 2018 Posted April 13, 2018 1. Gaga - Schneisa: mi perucke es afuera! (my wig is outside in german!). I really loved the german parts, tbh it's what made the song stand out the most. 2. Lea - Heavy Lovers: yesss I suppose even heavy people need some love too I guess, what an anthem for them, speak on it miss Lea (the production, lyrics, and of course vocals are great even if I can't relate to the subject matter!). 3. Demi - Daddy Issues: I'm a sucker for "personal/autobiographical" songs, Demi has so many great ones and this one is no different! Demetria continues to slay 4. Ariana - Touch Me: Fantastic production and vocals. This sounds like a top 10 smash, (well most of DW does tbh). 5. Rihanna - Consideration: She slayed this, I love the smooth transition between the verses and choruses. These top 5 were the standouts. I honestly went back and forth sooo much on their placements, I changed the rankings even up until writing this post nnn 6. Madonna - Pray 7. Mariah Carey - Make It Look Good 8. Katy Perry - Walking on Hair 6-8 are all great as well, but didn't shook me as much. 9. Britney Spears - Anticipating: Very bubblegum, carefree and cute! I wish you had gone with a song with more "substance" because it's a little forgettable, especially for Britney's amazing discography. 10. Celine Dion - A Natural Woman (cover): This was risky of you. Obviously her vocals are gorgeous and I know you spoke on it already, but I just couldn't get past the fact it was a cover. idk, it reminded me too much of all the singing competitions, and I'm sure Celine has songs where her vocals are just as strong, on a song with so much more meaning. 11. Nelly Furtado - Afraid: The robot beep boops in the background sound dated, the rapper is cringe, and that outro is a MESS. High Life would have been an amazing choice, TSI album deserves some love too

I understand how y'all judged though and it's fine, I just wanted to explain how I saw it I hope you survive I struggled to rank it for the reasons you mentioned, I think there is always a natural temptation for cover versions to compare it to the original... it's kind of difficult to separate them from the versions they know and consider best I guess???? And people kind of view the "purpose" of covers to kind of add a new perspective and/or improve upon the song, so if the artist doesn't do that people are harsh. But having said that I didn't want to penalise you because Celine's vocals are obviously stun not necessarily an improvement, but different, probably less soulful but fresher than the original. But I agree with the post that said maybe you did Celine dirty because I'm sure she has original gems to showcase from her albums.

This song is awesome and actually makes me want to give Natalia's discography more of a try. Yesss check ha out Her first album is amazing dark synthpop, lots of bops. I love her album Trouble a bit more though just because she shares a LOT about her broken life growing up and why she is the way she is.
