whew this reminded me that i need to listen to Yours Truly more, I always pay it dust and listen to her other two albums. This is a very solid choice and obviously fits the theme very well. This song gets me in a summery mood, it's very light and fun! Can't believe this song is five years old this month

 

@Selenurr: Marina and the Diamonds - Bubblegum Bitch

I'm a Marina stan and this is a career highlight. However, I will say that this doesn't really scream "love song" to me at all. I was gonna drag but then I looked through her discography and Marina doesn't really have any straight-up love songs apart from "Radioactive", which I think you should have submitted because it fits the theme best.

All the songs so far make me think of summer! Obviously Bey went off vocally on this one, and the lyrics are great. Personally I would have sent 1+1 or All Night (even End of Time would work) but this is also a very strong choice. This is kinda become a karaoke staple. It's so interesting to me how many people think this is an old classic from years ago 

 

@Fa1x intelectual: Adriana Calcanhotto - Fico Assim Sem Você

Again this is summery to me, but obviously in a more melancholy way  I've never heard anything by this artist before so I can't offer any critique of song choice, but I really like this. It's so beautiful and the guitar melodies are EVERYTHING. It was kinda jarring when the beat was added though, I wish it was just acoustic throughout. The lyrics are very pretty.

 

@PinkBox: Céline Dion - The Power of Love

A classic! I love a good 80s power ballad (even though Celine's version was released in the 90s). I never really found that Celine's version added anything to the original and usually if an artist covers a song I think it should be to interpret it differently. That's kinda besides the point though. I'm not familiar with Celine's discography enough to comment on song choice but it's pretty apt!

@Kylie Jenner: Lady Gaga - Paparazzi

A modern classic. A career highlight. Her VMAs 2009 performance might be my favourite awards show performance ever. Fits the theme well but also it's not straight-up love song like a lot of people's choices will be, it's a different way of expressing love which I appreciate. Definitely an incredible choice.

@thecptz: Lorde - 400 Lux

For some reason I never even clocked that this is kinda a love song. I think it's an interesting choice. Like I said with Marina, Lorde's discography doesn't have a huge amount of happy love. I guess your choice was either this or Supercut, I think this probably makes the most sense but still, Lorde's teenage poeticness makes it kinda difficult for me to see this as "love". In future weeks I hope that Lorde will be able to shine more in terms of fitting themes as we know that she has a lot of great lyricism covering different topics.

 

@PoKiTaurus: Britney Spears - (You Drive Me) Crazy

BOMT, Oops and Crazy are an iconic trinity that will live on forever in my heart. Truly a moment of time captured in music. I really love this song (as a Brit stan) and I think it does capture the challenge well, although I think that there are Brit songs that are even closer to the idea of "love song" and I might have gone with an album track. Overall undeniable greatness 

 

@Speezy: Jordin Sparks - Permanent Monday

Whew a kinda dated sounding 2007 pop ballad is exactly what I needed to hear right now. Never heard this before but I thoroughly enjoyed it. The lyrics are REALLY well-written, I like her interpretation of being away from someone (which is something I can really relate to a lot). This makes me want to listen to more of her stuff, super excited to hear more throughout the game!
 

@Satan: Rihanna f/ Ne-Yo - Hate That I Love You

This was never really a favourite of mine, I kinda found the title/main lyric to be a bit...cliche almost. Overall I think it's a bit mushy and I think there are a lot better choices that you could have picked for Rih, but that's mainly based on personal preference as I don't care for this song that much.

 

@fiercE: Maroon 5 - She Will Be Loved

I have to ignore my preconceptions of how I feel about Maroon 5 so I can remain entirely neutral even though I really find Adam Levine's voice to be irritating. Overall this is a pretty nice choice for the challenge, I know you mentioned that you found it difficult to find a song to fit the challenge but this seems to suit just fine. It's not my cup of tea at all but it fits the challenge so you'll get points based on that aspect.

 

@KatyCatPH: Katy Perry - Teenage Dream

I mean this is one of the ultimate pop songs ever (although I never really realised that fact until I came to ATRL, and then I realised how this truly is pure pop greatness.) I don't think this has aged THAT well but I can't really fault it as a choice. It puts me in a good mood, it definitely screams love song and it's overall highly enjoyable. A great job!

 

@rooby.booby: Nelly Furtado - My Love Grows Deeper Every Day

Wait, this production in the beginning was so cool. Feels totally game-changing to me. Never heard this song before but I really like it! Super eccentric production, I'm really into it, and it fits the challenge well too. It makes me intrigued to hear more of her work. I think Spirit Indestructible is the only full body of work I've heard of hers but this makes me want to hear her full debut.

 

@lhdang2000: Demi Lovato - Yes

To me this kinda sounds filler-y, I've only heard this album once before and none of Demi's albums stuck with me before TMYLM (which is incredible) as it just wasn't my style of music in general. There are songs I like on this album, but this is just generic pop-soul to me. It fits the challenge well, but it's not my thing.

kii, for this game lemme pretend that I don't think Boy George is an AWFUL person and appreciate this for the good song that it is. I love how dramatic the music of the 80s and this is no exception. Completely takes you to a different place. I will say that this song didn't scream "LOVE" in my face (mainly cause of the title) so I had to look up the meaning of the song, and from reading about the meaning I definitely understand it now. Pretty good choice!

 

@Fruity: Madonna - Crazy For You

More 80s! iirc, this is one of Madonna's earliest ballads and definitely proves her versatility because I think her vocal delivery on this song is stunning. Her voice is perfect for this movie slow-dance kinda thing that this song has going on. Thoroughly transported into that scene. Good choice for the challenge and I really enjoy it!
 

@Overprotected: Mariah Carey - Whenever You Call

Absolutely ADORE this. I absolutely love all of Mariah's work that I've heard, and it makes me wish that I could get into her discography more but it's so extensive and i'm super impatient! Hopefully I'll get to hear some of the highlights through this game. A really wonderful choice and I love it so much.

Love Lea's voice and this song so much. It frustrates me how much she is under-appreciated when she hits the nail on the head when it comes to power pop. Another choice that I really can't fault at all, a love song that has a different take on love but still feels like a love song, and it's super catchy. Loves it

 

@EriKills: Natalia Kills - Love is a Suicide

I've been meaning to get into Natalia's full discography (I'm only familiar with some of her singles) since I saw a trio dance to "Controversy" at the Dance World Cup and I was GAGGED. I don't even think your explanation was needed, the challenge specified "love song" and this song heavily discusses Natalia's ideas of love, so this hits the nail on the head and is an unconventional choice too. I wish more people had chosen songs like this actually. This is everything. SUCH a slayful end to the round.

10/10 - Man, it's been such a longtime since I last listened to this song. But it's perfect for this round and so relateable.

10/10 - It was funny when you said M5 had no love songs ,when this was the obvious choice. Well done

10/10 - Pretty good choice for this round. You pretty much had plenty of choices this round and you went with a strong choice.
