tumblr_onew3c4x8a1vxu8n6o1_500.gifWelcome to Egon Schiele's Top 50, a.k.a. The Hidden Gems tumblr_onew3c4x8a1vxu8n6o1_500.gif

This list is a collection of relatively unknown (or underrated), brilliant tracks released in 2017 (except maybe a hit or two; these could be new to certain members + they deserve a mention). From underground acts to well-known artists with solid fanbases and long careers: this isn't limited to certain genres or certain level of popularity, or anything at all: I wanted to create an inclusive Top 50 with artists from different places, both artistically and geographically with only one thing in common: quality.

What to expect:

tumblr_onew3c4x8a1vxu8n6o1_500.gifDiversitytumblr_onew3c4x8a1vxu8n6o1_500.gif

You'll find all kinds of styles; indie rock, rap, industrial noise, synthpop, ambient, art pop and everything in between, from all over the world

By yours truly, made with love <3

Expect the unexpected... 2017 had some secretly amazing comebacks, collabs and new horizons for "old" artists

#50 - INHEAVEN | TREATS

Quote

Inheaven sounds like the lovechild of a 90s grunge band and any of the mainstream rock bands which ruled the subsequent decade and just the right amount of pop to make it the ultimate cheerleader heavy rock banger. Think of a contemporary tribute to Hole during the Celebrity Skin era. The video is also a tribute to Nirvana and the cult-classic horror film Carrie.

Here for it! And that Inheaven track is pretty dope a really pretty aesthetic.

#49 THE SOUND OF ARROWS | BEAUTIFUL LIFE

Quote

In 2011, The Sound Of Arrows debuted with Voyage, a dreamy cinematic masterpiece that is considered by many a modern cult-classic. After six long years of silence, they returned with Stay Free, a celebration of life with a positive message for those struggling in these chaotic times. Their sound is more stripped-down now, more orchestral and reminiscent of trip-hop classics. Stefan Storm (lead singer of the duo) stated that they didn't want to release anything until they had an album that mantained the quality of their debut... and that's exactly what they did.

#48 - FAZERDAZE | LUCKY GIRL

Quote

When I first listened to Fazerdaze, I thought it was a band, similar to Wild Nothing in terms of style, and when I realized it was the solo project of multi-instrumentist Amelia Murray (from New Zealand), I simply fell in love. Fazerdaze is a promising one-woman project and I'm sure we'll be getting more amazing dreampop and shoegaze-inspired cuts from her in the future.

#47 - METHYL ETHEL | UBU

Quote

Ubu was the second single from the sophomore album by the Australian art-rock band Methyl Ethel. The odd chorus (Why'd you have to go and cut your hair?) becomes a powerful rhetorical question once you pay attention to the rest of the lyrics and realize this song is about someone who potentially suffers from depression and/or social anxiety. It's also a fun song to dance to.

#46 - YAEJI | RAINGURL

Quote

Yaeji's sound is a mix of addictive house music, trap and rap. She writes, sings and produces her own music, which incorporates some verses in Korean. One thing that I really appreciate about her as an artist is her ability to produce bangers but also to write about introspective topics, dealing with her identity, anxiety and many other themes. Yaeji is also a painter and graphic designer.

That's it for today!
Tune in after xmas to find out who are the next five positions :gaycat4:

xoxo
