DAP Posted December 19, 2017 Posted December 19, 2017 (edited) Idk how this will pan out since this is my first end year rate but we’re gonna see I’ve kept watch of entertainment and 2017 marks a great year for television and film. Music too, I guess. The rate will be reflective of such and pick the highlights of the year. I will also be including my picks of 2017’s worst. Music 10 Best Albums 15 Best Songs Best Performances Worst of 2017 Television 20 Best Shows Best performances of the year Worst of 2017 Film 10 Best Films Best performances of the year Worst of 2017 Edited December 30, 2017 by DAP

DAP Posted December 20, 2017 Author Posted December 20, 2017 1. Lorde - Green Light In one of Lorde’s rare musical mishaps, the singers tops the Worst Songs of 2017 rankings with Melodrama’s lead single, Green Light. There isn’t much to be said that I haven’t already said about Green Light, but the song’s clunky production and dry lyrics make for the weakest song on Melodrama, and arguably Lorde’s weakest effort since Royals. It is truly her Summerboy. Issa no from me 2. Ed Sheeran - Shape of You It’s Ed. That’s about it. 3. Eminem ft Beyonce - Walk on Water Skylar Grey/Rick Rubin-produced tracks really don’t resonate with me and this song is no different. Perhaps one positive thing I will say is that Beyonce takes over the hook nicely. Not extraordinary work, but it’s cute, and perhaps the song’s only saving grace. Otherwise, Walk on Water is a dull ballad that attempts to provoke with a powerful message, but its somber ambience just fails to resonate with me. Eminem is Eminem, he has his moments but I’ve never cared much for him as an artist and this song fails to sway that opinion. 4. Katy Perry - Swish Swish The kii is that when this song was initially released, I loved it. It’s infectious and catchy, it had a lot of redeeming quality. I don’t know what made me fall out of love with Swish Swish, but I don’t enjoy listening to it anymore. It’s aged so poorly 5. Lil Pump - Gucci Gang I tend to be among the few that defends trap music on this forum because it is a lot better than many perceive it to be. But whew. This is some hot trash. And Lil Pump is a pedo so **** him
Wicked Posted December 20, 2017 Posted December 20, 2017 Wow, this worst list is on point. But info on this Lil Pump situation? Yikes. Not him & Tekashi both being pedos with hits

ATRL Moderator madonnas Posted December 20, 2017 ATRL Moderator Posted December 20, 2017 "arguably Lorde’s weakest effort since Royals." And I thought I was being controversial for putting Arcade Fire's album in my top 10 Sis....

DAP Posted December 20, 2017 Author Posted December 20, 2017 1. Inhumans A DUD 2. American Horror Story: Cult I’ve never been much of a fan of American Horror Story, much less Ryan Murphy as a talent. There’s a much earned respect for raising FX’s profile, but otherwise, the network has so much better programming ie Fargo, Legion, and of course my kings, the comedy triple threat Atlanta/It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia/Archer. In spite of a promising concept, Cult fell FLAT on its face. Its boring, shallow political commentary and various plotholes makes for perhaps AHS’ sloppiest season thus far. 3. The Walking Dead This is yet another show past it’s zenith. All the more shameful because TWD launched with a promising first season, the vision of a strong lead in Frank Darabont. His departure really hurt the show’s creative vehicle and in its subsequent years, these issues have only become more glaring. Characters are still as poorly developed as ever (writing was plaguing the show around the time I stopped watching at season 3, the fact that writers still haven’t resolved their issues ) and to compensate for poor writing, they rely on shock value for drama, a strategy which has long tired out. Game of Thrones really did win didn’t she? 4. WWE Much of the same issues plaguing shows such as TWD and AHS are the same ones plaguing WWE. Poorly developed drama, poorly developed characters, poor writing in all. Wrestling is a odd beast but nonetheless, it’s spectacle, it’s drama in it’s very nature and so I have the same expectations for it as any other TV show/film. It’s awful, and the girls watch 7 hours of this mess weekly? I can’t get past 5-10 minutes, mess 5. Room 104 Such squandered potential. HBO had the workings of a great show, but what we actually got was a huge disappointment. A True Detective/Mr Robot circa season 2 tea
Maddox Posted December 20, 2017 Posted December 20, 2017 (edited) Room 104 is indeed bad but sis don't put Mr Robot among those two It wasn't that disappointing. AHS is irredeemable at this point, and he probably doesn't care since there's still an audience. Didn't watch the rest. Edited December 20, 2017 by Maddox
Playa Playa Posted December 20, 2017 Posted December 20, 2017 They all deserve it! And to think I was excited for the Inhumans
mokitsu Posted December 20, 2017 Posted December 20, 2017 ahs i liked cult but the first episodes were HORRIBLE. it picked up around 4 and it was much more enjoyable imo. i wanted to watch inhumans but it's been getting nothing but bad reviews

Mr Robot wasn’t as bad as Room but the disappointment was the same I still need to finish the third season, hopefully it’s much better
Wicked Posted December 20, 2017 Posted December 20, 2017 I only watched certain matches this year, tbh. I'm just less interested in the dramatics of WWE. AHS is a straight up mess. That's what happens when you let Ryan Murphy write
DAP Posted December 22, 2017 Author Posted December 22, 2017 1. Suburbicon Who has the ability to butcher a Coen Brothers script to the point where it’s unsalvageable? Only George Clooney. Two hours I’ll never get back. He can rot. Julianne and Guatemalan legend Oscar don’t deserve this disaster attached to them. 2. The Snowman I came in The Snowman with zero expectation, of the opinion that this will likely continue Fassbender’s streak of critical and commercial flops. And thus, the saga lives. The Snowman is Alfredson’s haphazard, sloppy adaptation come to life, a waste of great source material and a star studded cast. It’s so bad that Alfredson doesn’t even defend his work, instead he blames the “tight” production schedule for his poorly produced film. nnn ok hun. 3. Song to Song In Malick’s most recent project, Song to Song revels in its own pomp and pretense, the personification of style over substance. For better or worse, this is yet another indication that Malick has lost his artistic flare. 4. Wonder Wheel Speaking of a style over substance’d mess Yet another Woody Allen project that develops into a complete afterthought. Much like Malick, there’s not much to look forward to out of Allen in this day and age. 5. mother! Mother is a highly polarizing piece. Responses are hardly in-between, either you love it or you despise it. For what it’s worth, JLaw churns out a decent performance and attempts to bring Aronofsky’s ambitions to life, but the execution leaves much to be desired for me. Issa no on all front
Wicked Posted December 22, 2017 Posted December 22, 2017 Mother! was a waste of my time. Didn't see the rest so I guess I did good.
Navyofbadgals Posted December 23, 2017 Posted December 23, 2017 drag Ed AHS Cult was actually nice this year also thank god for that Snowman mention, boy did they ruin a decent book like dat
Playa Playa Posted December 23, 2017 Posted December 23, 2017 The Snowman is the funniest flop of the year
DAP Posted December 29, 2017 Author Posted December 29, 2017 I forgot about this Next update is coming tonight
DAP Posted December 30, 2017 Author Posted December 30, 2017 15. Lana Del Rey (ft. A$AP Rocky and Playboi Carti) - Summer Bummer Lana enters uncharted territory as she collaborates with A$AP Rocky and Playboi Carti on this trap-inspired track, resulting in a lush, infectious beat that coalesces with her sultry vocal style. It’s lively, engaging, and Lana at her finest. Hip hop compliments her swagger so I think she should explore it more and depart from her signature work, as despite her vivid imagery, a lot of her music is dry, even comatose, for my liking. 14. St. Beauty - Caught This is a duo to watch in the next few years. St. Beauty’s latest song, Caught, is the breezy lead for their forthcoming EP. Their vocals provide the nucleus for the song’s production, embellished with horns and a somewhat retro vibe. The video is what really puts over the song for me; very colorful, trippy, and playful. They have the seal of approval from the legendary Janelle Monae so they ain’t playing. 13. Travis Scott & Quavo - Black and Chinese Travis Scott and Quavo have a lot of chemistry and especially so in Black and Chinese, probably the best from the recently-released Huncho Jack, Jack Huncho. The duo play off their chemistry seamlessly in this catchy, well-crafted song. But that hook? Yas. Travis SLAYS that hook. 12. Kelela - Enough Kelela is kind of snatching everyone’s necks isn’t she? Poor SZA! Enough is a personal favorite from Take Me Apart. The aesthetic is atmospheric, very emotive, almost a ghost-like quality to it. The tribal percussion adds to the production’s atmospherics, birthing a distinctive and innovative soundscape. I love this. 11. Young Thug - Daddy’s Birthday Thugger has established himself as one of trap’s most daring artists. His artistic growth is wonderful, he’s improved so much with each successive project. Daddy’s Birthday is fun and mellow, in which Young Thug achieves a warmth that we really haven’t seen much of from him. It’s one of the highlight from Beautiful Thugger Girls.
Playa Playa Posted December 30, 2017 Posted December 30, 2017 Caught is a cool ass song Enough is my least fave but it still goes.

She doesn’t have a single bad song but it took me a while to get into Altadena. Still is, I’m not as high on that song as I am with the rest of Take Me Apart
