Lucas32 Posted December 18, 2017 Author Posted December 18, 2017 1 hour ago, theblackestday said: Hopefully Not quite Top 5 most disappointing releases 1. Weezer – Pacific Daydream After delivering their best and most interesting album in well over a decade in 2016 many Weezer fans, myself included, hoped for a return to form from the Cuomo-led quartett. Sadly, Pacific Daydream finds them reverting back to the bland and streamlined sound of tasteless pop-rock with the faintest hint of indie elements that plagues most of their 2000s discography. 2. Arcade Fire – Everything now So…Arcade Fire released their first dud. It occurs in almost every band’s trajectory especially the ones whose discography is as celebrated as Arade Fire’s. For a long while many people thought Arcade Fire was one of those bands that are seemingly immune to making a mistake. For four albums they managed to inject their emotionally potent and euphoric aura into a variety of sounds, always evolving but never losing sight of what made them beloved in the first place. On Everything now they do. The songwriting feels lifeless, the production is too dull and the vocal delivery lacks the emotional spark of their past work. While by no means a disaster in my eyes, and still filled with a handful of standout tracks, Everything Now was and still is a bitter pill to swallow. 3. Charli XCX – Number 1 Angel Last year, together with producer SOPHIE, Charli XCX released her best and most eclectic body of work yet with her 4-track EP Vroom Vroom. The EP was filled with some of her catchiest songwriting, hyperactive synths and beats that helped Charli to realise the pop euphoria she has been trying to conceive with previous songs. The follow-up mixtape #1A largely fails to make good on all the promises delivered on the EP and is riddled with pointless features, underwhelming tracks and uncharasmatic delivery. 4. King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard – Sketches of Bunswick East The third of the 4 King Gizard albums released this year ( 5 were announced so stay tuned for a possible fifth album coming durng your holiday season) is the only one I personally felt disappointed with. It’s very light and forgettable elevator music that I would’ve never listened to full length if it didn’t have the name King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard on it. 5. Drake – More Life More Life largely repeats the same mistakes that already tainted Drake’s previous effort Views and there's no real need to mention them over and over again. It’s overstuffed, too forgettable, filled with uninteresting flows and lyrics and generally makes you wish Drake will take a looong creative break as soon as possible.
theblackestday Posted December 18, 2017 Posted December 18, 2017 No Masseduction? Mediocrity won, talent lost. I wasn’t a fan of that King Gizzard album but I think I liked it more than Murder of the Universe. Surprised you’d call More Life a disappointment after Views. We both have N1A in our trash list so slay your writeup is accurate
Tom Vercetti Posted December 18, 2017 Posted December 18, 2017 Tezeta is one of their best songs, but hmm yeah it's genuinely the least liked album of theirs. Weezer back to flopping after the White Album is a sad state. EN and More Life deserves their spots here

World Eater Posted December 18, 2017 Posted December 18, 2017 Sketches was a snoozefest Agreed with Drake and Arcade Fire being here, I've also heard that this Weezer album was awful but I don't plan on checking it out I'd say Pop 2 should be here over N1A tho

Lucas32 Posted December 19, 2017 Author Posted December 19, 2017 Top 5 EPs 1. Snail Mail – Habit In a year where indie rock was, to put it mildly, far from an all-time high, upcoming band Snail Mail delivered everything indie rock fans could hope for; pensive and introspective lyrics, an intimate bedroom vibe and honest emotional delivery. Led by 17 year old singer and writer Lindsey Jordan, the songs largely find her in her own four walls, contemplating life outside and her own life on the inside. More thoughful and clever than anything written by a 17 year old should be, Habit is the perfect EP for anyone who felt indie rock was missing this year. 2. David Bowie – No Plan Complimenting Bowie’s final album Blackstar, the No Plan EP features Lazarus, one of the album’s centerpieces, and 3 more tracks that expand on the sound Bowie built with his last album. It’s eerie and moody. It’s gripping and soothing. Just like Bowie used to be; hard to pin down. 3. ANOHNI – Paradise After being disappointed with ANOHNI’s debut album last year I was surprised that the „leftover“ EP offers a much more concise and riveting vision of her frenctic eletronic tendencies and brooding societal criticism. Filled with fantastic tracks and less heavy-handed lyrics, Paradise feels a lot more potent than the LP that proceeded it. 4. Alice Glass – Alice Glass Alice’s proper debut into a musical solo career has been a long time coming. After leaving Crystal Castles shortly after the release of their third album (III) and a lot of press attention for reasons that are best left uncomented from an outsider’s perspective later, Alice finally released her self-titled debut EP. Filled with just the kind of noisy electropunk and eerie electronical soundscapes you’d expect from Alice Glass, her debut EP is a promising start for a solo career and an emotional and personal catharsis. 5. Injury Reverse – Drive it like it’s stolen Arizona based hip hop trio Injury reverse follow up their fantastic debut album Floss with an EP building on all of its strenghts. Mixing woke conscious lyricsim with banging but also laid back sounds cement Injury Reverse’s status as one of hip hop’s most underrated voices at the moment.
