Today, it occurred to me that I was the only person among my coworkers that does not use TikTok - it made me curious about what platforms people around my age currently use. What platforms do you use regularly? If you do not use social media regularly or deliberately stay away from specific platforms, please share why.

tech New to Apple Music, coming from Spotify. I have a question!
Comedor posted a topic in The Lounge
I have started using Apple Music today and have a question. Is there a way to synch the music player between desktop browser and phone app? For example, I'm playing music on my desktop browser and when I open up the phone app it doesn't recognize the music playing on desktop. In that same scenario, on Spotify, the phone app would let me control the browser player - and even let me switch from browser to app. Is that not possible with AM? -

tech New version of ChatGPT released: real-time translation, human-like interaction + more
TROPICUM posted a topic in The Lounge
ChatGPT 4o got released today and it's kinda a collapse… Able to interact with user directly, with extreme fluidity and human-like word speeches and tones. Able to see the world itself and understand what its seeing. Realtime translation Able to teach any subject in real time, mostly focused in algebra and physics can SING (a little rough but several pop girls still got ended) Not going to lie, before this ChatGPT worked only for essays, work or homework you didn't want to do but this version totally changes the game and it's probably THEE collapse of the decade (tech-wise)… like this is the invention of the iPhone type of **** -
You can control your phone with your eyes, similar to Vision Pro. It's coming to IPhones. The future is here.

They snapped and ate up OpenAI. Go here to see all the announcements: https://blog.google/inside-google/message-ceo/google-io-2024-keynote-sundar-pichai/ Now sure Open's GPT4o is more impressive but it won't be long before Google catches up. I always love to see competition but what I really love is how Google is releasing open source models. -

Companies are starting to implement Self-Driving 18 Wheeler trucks in the U.S. this year. Obviously Teslas and self driving vehicles have been mainstream for a while now. But now this tech is starting to enter the workforce at a Blue & White collard level i just saw a popular TikTok saying that other corporations will begin using this technology by the end of the year resulting in nearly 1600 Jobs laid of within 6 months. Ironically this time last year, reports of Millions of Jobs being replaced due to A.I. in Computer, Marketing, and even the entertainment fields and industries. Within 6 months into 2023 that's what happen on a global scale. Can we see this phenomenon begin in the Truck driving and logistics industries this time next year as well? Is this why the Job Market in the U.S the past year has been abysmal. Are we witnessing Technology taking over working class jobs? Are you comfortable with a 18 wheeler driving next to you with no one in it

tech Is "skinny" as a pop culturally coded "positive" adjective problematic?
Specter posted a topic in The Lounge
I have a "friend" (read: distant acquaintance who I can only stand in certain contexts), who basically uncritically applies stan twitter lingo irl (yes, he is caucasian). In recent times I have been hanging out with this really sweet girl who I seem to get along with, and I ran into him where we were hanging out. I introduced them, they got talking, and soon he says "oh wow that's very skinny of you. Slay" Firstly, I disassociated out of the c r i n g e, but more importantly, the girl I was with is someone who is a larger person. She is also not in-tune with stan culture (nor should she be lol) and she really thought he meant to mock her. After he left she was a bit down and when I asked, she felt like she had been body shamed and I had to "explain" that he did not mean it that way; mid-explanation though it struck me: how ******* stupid like yes it's not that serious to discuss the metaphysics of the word skinny but skinny = gay way of saying good is...weird? Is it just me? This is coming from someone with severe body issues to but in a different context. I think for me I have learned to tune out any stan lingo nonsense when I hear it irl. Thoughts? -
These companies are some of the biggest consumer tech companies. However, they hold too much power and influence. Even going as far as being monopolistic. Should these companies all be split up? For instance, YouTube being a separate company Google search, and Android being its own thing. Or WhatsApp, Instagram and Facebook all being separate companies? We also know these companies form a wing of US state propaganda and spying which like TikTok is an issue of state security.

Okay, so recently I switched from Android to Apple and the one thing that bothers me the most how can I transfer and play downloaded mp3 files that I have on my Android to my iPhone? I have so many music files of mostly unreleased/leaked music and it seems like there is no way for me to play those files on my iPhone. I've seen that you can do it through Apple Music but you have to subscribe to AM, but I'm using Spotify already for idk how many years.
