    2024 MLB Season ⚾

This is the thread for the happenings of the 2024 MLB season, from the Cooperstown Ballot on to the World Series. The Texas Rangers won their 1st ever World Series Pennant. This upcoming season will be the last season the A's play in Oakland, as they are set to relocate to Las Vegas. This upcoming season will continue to have the RSN crisis unfold that began last season, especially with the Bally RSNs. A couple of key rule changes will take effect for next year: mound visits will be cut to 4, the runners' lane on the first base side will be widened to include the fair ball side of the foul line. The pitch clock time is being further modified when runners on base, reduced to 18 from 20 seconds. 2023-24 NFL Season 🏈

This thread features the happenings of the 2023-24 NFL season, including the draft, preseason, 17-game/18-week regular season, and the playoff run to the Super Bowl. If you are a fan of the NFL, who do you root for? The jersey numbering rules have been further relaxed, as kickers and punters are now allowed to wear numbers 0-49 and 90-99 in a change from 1-19. 0 is now permitted as a jersey number. Plays that are turnovers on downs (failure to convert 4th down) are subject to booth review. The Kansas City Chiefs won the Super Bowl over the Philadelphia Eagles. Buccaneers QB Tom Brady announced his retirement, this time for good. Packers QB Aaron Rodgers is now a Jet due to the trade. NFL Sunday Ticket will no longer be on DirecTV for home customers, as it has moved to YouTube TV. DirecTV, however, will keep the NFLST package for commercial establishments. Amazon has gained a Black Friday game to be aired during the afternoon hours on the day after Thanksgiving. NBC will stream one game exclusively on Peacock. ABC/ESPN is now part of the Super Bowl rotation. ESPN's Monday Night Football is now eligible to be part of the flexible scheduling policy, meaning games can be moved from Sunday afternoons scheduled to be on either Fox or CBS to MNF, just like flexing those games into SNF on NBC. 2023 MLB Season ⚾

    This is the thread for the happenings of the 2023 MLB season, from the Cooperstown Ballot on to the World Series. The Houston Astros are your World Series Champions. Scott Rolen was the only one to get inducted into the Cooperstown via the BBWAA ballot. Fred McGriff also got inducted via the Contemporary Baseball Era Committee ballot. Also, during spring training, the 2023 World Baseball Classic will be held. It was delayed from 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The United States are your defending champions. The 2022 season was the first to have the NL adopt the DH on a permanent basis, after temporarily adopting it during the COVID-shortened 2020 season. This past season featured an expanded playoffs, where 6 teams per league make it in (3 division winners + 3 wild cards) for a total of 12 teams. That meant that the game 163 tiebreakers are extinct. The upcoming 2023 season will feature some big rule changes, including the banning of the shift, introduction of the pitch clock (15 seconds with bases empty, 20 seconds with at least one runner on base), a limit of 2 disengagements (aka pickoff attempts) without penalty per plate appearance, and a balanced schedule where every team plays everybody at least one series a season, akin to the NHL. Juraj Slafkovský went #1st overall in the 2022 NHL Draft, selected by the Montréal Canadiens. For the first time since 2019, owing to the COVID-19 pandemic the past two seasons, games in Europe will be held again, with the Nashville Predators and San Jose Sharks playing at O2 Arena in Prague, Czech Republic in a home-and-home on October 7th and 8th and the Columbus Blue Jackets and the defending Stanley Cup Champions Colorado Avalanche at Nokia Arena in Tampere, Finland on November 4th and 5th in home-and-home. The NHL All-Star Game will be held in Sunrise, Florida on February 4th, 2023 at FLA Live Arena. The Winter Classic will be held on January 2nd, 2023 at Fenway Park between the Boston Bruins and the Pittsburgh Penguins. The Stadium Series will be held on February 18th, 2023 at Carter-Finley Stadium in Raleigh, NC between the Carolina Hurricanes and Washington Capitols. In the USA, as of last season, the league televises games on ESPN and TNT, with games also airing on ESPN+/Hulu on streaming and ABC on linear for the ESPN package and some games (mainly playoffs) also on TBS for the TNT package. 2021-22 Standings Eastern Conference Top 3 (Metropolitan Division) Pos Team GP W L OTL RW GF GA GD Pts 1 y – Carolina Hurricanes 82 54 20 8 47 278 202 +76 116 2 x – New York Rangers 82 52 24 6 44 254 207 +47 110 3 x – Pittsburgh Penguins 82 46 25 11 37 272 229 +43 103 Source: National Hockey League[148] Top 3 (Atlantic Division) Pos Team GP W L OTL RW GF GA GD Pts 1 p – Florida Panthers 82 58 18 6 42 340 246 +94 122 2 x – Toronto Maple Leafs 82 54 21 7 45 315 253 +62 115 3 x – Tampa Bay Lightning 82 51 23 8 39 287 233 +54 110 Source: National Hockey League[148] Eastern Conference Wild Card Pos Div Team GP W L OTL RW GF GA GD Pts 1 AT x – Boston Bruins 82 51 26 5 40 255 220 +35 107 2 ME x – Washington Capitals 82 44 26 12 35 275 245 +30 100 3 ME e – New York Islanders 82 37 35 10 34 231 237 −6 84 4 ME e – Columbus Blue Jackets 82 37 38 7 26 262 300 −38 81 5 AT e – Buffalo Sabres 82 32 39 11 25 232 290 −58 75 6 AT e – Detroit Red Wings 82 32 40 10 21 230 312 −82 74 7 AT e – Ottawa Senators 82 33 42 7 26 227 266 −39 73 8 ME e – New Jersey Devils 82 27 46 9 19 248 307 −59 63 9 ME e – Philadelphia Flyers 82 25 46 11 20 211 298 −87 61 10 AT e – Montreal Canadiens 82 22 49 11 16 221 319 −98 55 Source: National Hockey League[149] Western Conference Top 3 (Central Division) Pos Team GP W L OTL RW GF GA GD Pts 1 z – Colorado Avalanche 82 56 19 7 46 312 234 +78 119 2 x – Minnesota Wild 82 53 22 7 37 310 253 +57 113 3 x – St. Louis Blues 82 49 22 11 43 311 242 +69 109 Source: National Hockey League[148] Top 3 (Pacific Division) Pos Team GP W L OTL RW GF GA GD Pts 1 y – Calgary Flames 82 50 21 11 44 293 208 +85 111 2 x – Edmonton Oilers 82 49 27 6 38 290 252 +38 104 3 x – Los Angeles Kings 82 44 27 11 35 239 236 +3 99 Source: National Hockey League[148] Western Conference Wild Card Pos Div Team GP W L OTL RW GF GA GD Pts 1 CE x – Dallas Stars 82 46 30 6 31 238 246 −8 98 2 CE x – Nashville Predators 82 45 30 7 35 266 252 +14 97 3 PA e – Vegas Golden Knights 82 43 31 8 34 266 248 +18 94 4 PA e – Vancouver Canucks 82 40 30 12 32 249 236 +13 92 5 CE e – Winnipeg Jets 82 39 32 11 32 252 257 −5 89 6 PA e – San Jose Sharks 82 32 37 13 22 214 264 −50 77 7 PA e – Anaheim Ducks 82 31 37 14 22 232 271 −39 76 8 CE e – Chicago Blackhawks 82 28 42 12 16 219 291 −72 68 9 PA e – Seattle Kraken 82 27 49 6 23 216 285 −69 60 10 CE e – Arizona Coyotes 82 25 50 7 18 207 313 −106 57 Source: National Hockey League[149] 2021-22 Playoffs First Round Second Round Conference Finals Stanley Cup Finals A1 Florida 4 WC Washington 2 A1 Florida 0 A3 Tampa Bay 4 A2 Toronto 3 A3 Tampa Bay 4 A3 Tampa Bay 4 Eastern Conference M2 NY Rangers 2 M1 Carolina 4 WC Boston 3 M1 Carolina 3 M2 NY Rangers 4 M2 NY Rangers 4 M3 Pittsburgh 3 A3 Tampa Bay 2 C1 Colorado 4 C1 Colorado 4 WC Nashville 0 C1 Colorado 4 C3 St. Louis 2 C2 Minnesota 2 C3 St. Louis 4 C1 Colorado 4 Western Conference P2 Edmonton 0 P1 Calgary 4 WC Dallas 3 P1 Calgary 1 P2 Edmonton 4 P2 Edmonton 4 P3 Los Angeles 3 2022 NHL Draft (First Round) # 2022-23 NFL Season ?

This thread features the happenings of the 2022-23 NFL season, including the draft, preseason, 17-game/18-week regular season, and the playoff run to the Super Bowl. If you are a fan of the NFL, who do you root for? The NFL has modified its OT rules yet again, for the playoffs only: Both teams are assured of one possession in overtime, even if the first team with possession scores a touchdown. The Los Angeles Rams won the Super Bowl over the Cincinnati Bengals. The Washington Football Team has been renamed to the Washington Commanders. Buccaneers QB Tom Brady briefly announced his retirement, only to rescind it, as he'll return to the Bucs. Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger retired. This upcoming NFL season will have major changes on the broadcast booth front, as Joe Buck and Troy Aikman (the main NFL on Fox team) are headed to ABC/ESPN to be the A team on Monday Night Football; Michele Tafoya quit her Sunday Night Football on NBC sideline gig for politics and was replaced by former MNF sideline reporter Melissa Stark; Al Michaels left NBC for Amazon to do its Thursday Night Football package that is exclusive to Amazon Prime for those outside the participating teams' home markets, and he'll be paired up with Kirk Herbstreit; Mike Tirico takes over the SNF gig on a full-time basis; and the NFL Sunday Ticket's likely final season of being DirecTV exclusive. 2022 MLB Season ⚾

This is the thread for the happenings of the 2022 MLB season, from the Cooperstown Ballot on to the World Series. The Atlanta Braves are your World Series Champions. David Ortiz was the only one to get inducted into the Cooperstown via the BBWAA ballot. The 2021 season went back to the normal 162-game season, and teams played at reduced capacity to start the season and gradually increased it to full capacity over the course of the season. The Toronto Blue Jays were permitted to play at their home park in Toronto after a season and a half of playing their home games in the USA due to the US/Canada Border closed to nonessential travel. This past season saw the return of the All-Star Game and its associated events. The initial location was going to be held at Atlanta's park, but due to the furor of Georgia's voter-suppression bill SB202, the game and the associated festivities got moved to Denver. The 2021 season was the final season of pitchers hitting in NL games as a default rule. The MLB entered 2022 under a lockout. How long will it last before it gets resolved is the question? It was resolved in March, delaying the season a week. Key questions: - Will there be a 162-game schedule like normal? Or will it be shortened or even played at all? - Will there be a Spring Training? - Will the lockout be resolved in time for Spring Training or even the start of the regular season? - If a CBA can be reached, will we see playoff expansion and/or universal DH? 2021-22 NHL Thread ?

This thread focuses on the happenings of the 2021-22 NHL season. The Tampa Bay Lightning repeated as defending Stanley Cup champions. Owen Porter went #1st overall in the 2021 NHL Draft, selected by the Buffalo Sabres. Jérémy Lauzon was selected 1st overall in the Expansion Draft from Boston by the Seattle Kraken. After a COVID-shortened season of 56 games that were confined to division-only play that necessitated realignment of the divisions due to the US/Canada Border closed to non-essential travel for most of the season, the full 82-game schedule and normal divisional alignments are back. Also, arenas are expected to open to full capacity. Certain arenas could be under mask mandates. Certain arenas will likely have a COVID vaccine and/or negative test mandate to gain entry. The NHL will have a Winter Olympic pause from February 7th to 22nd in 2022. The NHL All-Star Game, which was cancelled last year due to the COVID pandemic, is back on in Vegas as the last event prior to the Olympic break, to be held on the weekend of February 4th and 5th. The Winter Classic is back after a one-season hiatus due to the COVID pandemic, with the same opponents that would've played the 2021 game: the St. Louis Blues and Minnesota Wild at Target Field. The Seattle Kraken make its debut in the NHL, making it a 32-team league. As a result of the Kraken's arrival, the Arizona Coyotes head to the Central Division, meaning each division has 8 teams. 2021-22 NFL Season ?

This thread features the happenings of the 2021-22 NFL season, including the draft, preseason, regular season, and the playoff run to the Super Bowl. If you are a fan of the NFL, who do you root for? The Tampa Bay Buccaneers won the Super Bowl over the Kansas City Chiefs. This is the first season that the NFL will adopt a 17-game regular season, meaning that the preseason will be reduced to 3 games and the playoffs will get pushed back a week and the Super Bowl will now be on the 2nd Sunday in February. The previous season saw lots of games rescheduled due to COVID outbreaks, but the schedule was able to be completed. The previous NFL season was the first season that the Washington Football Team no longer went by its racist nickname and the final season that the NFL schedule was 16 games. It was also the first season to have a 14-team NFL playoff (7 per conference), which meant that the 2nd seed in each conference no longer got the 1st-round bye. This upcoming season is likely to see stadiums returning to full capacity (or at least closer to that), as vaccinations rates will continue to go up. As for mask-wearing, that may very well be still a thing, depending on the jurisdiction of the team's home stadium. Resources: NFL.com Standings (NFL.com) Schedules (NFL.com) ESPN.com (NFL) Yahoo!
