This thread focuses on the happenings of the 2023-24 NHL season. Vegas Golden Knights won their first ever Lord Stanley trophy by beating Florida Panthers 4 games to 1 to win the Stanley Cup for the 2022-23 season. Connor Bedard went #1st overall in the 2023 NHL Draft, selected by the Chicago Blackhawks. The NHL All-Star Game will be held in Toronto, Ontario, Canada on February 3rd, 2024 at Scotiabank Area. The Winter Classic will be held on January 1st, 2024 at T-Mobile Park in Seattle between the Seattle Kraken and the Vegas Golden Knights. The Stadium Series will be held on two different dates: February 17th between the Philadelphia Flyers and New Jersey Devils for New Jersey supremacy, and February 18th between the New York Rangers and the New York Islanders for New York City bragging rights. Both Stadium Series games will be held at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey. This is the thread for the happenings of the 2024 MLB season, from the Cooperstown Ballot on to the World Series. The Texas Rangers won their 1st ever World Series Pennant. This upcoming season will be the last season the A's play in Oakland, as they are set to relocate to Las Vegas. This upcoming season will continue to have the RSN crisis unfold that began last season, especially with the Bally RSNs. A couple of key rule changes will take effect for next year: mound visits will be cut to 4, the runners' lane on the first base side will be widened to include the fair ball side of the foul line. The pitch clock time is being further modified when runners on base, reduced to 18 from 20 seconds. This thread features the happenings of the 2023-24 NFL season, including the draft, preseason, 17-game/18-week regular season, and the playoff run to the Super Bowl. If you are a fan of the NFL, who do you root for? The jersey numbering rules have been further relaxed, as kickers and punters are now allowed to wear numbers 0-49 and 90-99 in a change from 1-19. 0 is now permitted as a jersey number. Plays that are turnovers on downs (failure to convert 4th down) are subject to booth review. The Kansas City Chiefs won the Super Bowl over the Philadelphia Eagles. Buccaneers QB Tom Brady announced his retirement, this time for good. Packers QB Aaron Rodgers is now a Jet due to the trade. NFL Sunday Ticket will no longer be on DirecTV for home customers, as it has moved to YouTube TV. DirecTV, however, will keep the NFLST package for commercial establishments. Amazon has gained a Black Friday game to be aired during the afternoon hours on the day after Thanksgiving. NBC will stream one game exclusively on Peacock. ABC/ESPN is now part of the Super Bowl rotation. ESPN's Monday Night Football is now eligible to be part of the flexible scheduling policy, meaning games can be moved from Sunday afternoons scheduled to be on either Fox or CBS to MNF, just like flexing those games into SNF on NBC. This is the thread for the happenings of the 2023 MLB season, from the Cooperstown Ballot on to the World Series. The Houston Astros are your World Series Champions. The 2022 season was the first to have the NL adopt the DH on a permanent basis, after temporarily adopting it during the COVID-shortened 2020 season. This past season featured an expanded playoffs, where 6 teams per league make it in (3 division winners + 3 wild cards) for a total of 12 teams. That meant that the game 163 tiebreakers are extinct. The upcoming 2023 season will feature some big rule changes, including the banning of the shift, introduction of the pitch clock (15 seconds with bases empty, 20 seconds with at least one runner on base), a limit of 2 disengagements (aka pickoff attempts) without penalty per plate appearance, and a balanced schedule where every team plays everybody at least one series a season, akin to the NHL. This is the thread for the happenings of the 2022 MLB season, from the Cooperstown Ballot on to the World Series. The Atlanta Braves are your World Series Champions. The 2021 season went back to the normal 162-game season, and teams played at reduced capacity to start the season and gradually increased it to full capacity over the course of the season. The Toronto Blue Jays were permitted to play at their home park in Toronto after a season and a half of playing their home games in the USA due to the US/Canada Border closed to nonessential travel. This past season saw the return of the All-Star Game and its associated events. The initial location was going to be held at Atlanta's park, but due to the furor of Georgia's voter-suppression bill SB202, the game and the associated festivities got moved to Denver. The 2021 season was the final season of pitchers hitting in NL games as a default rule. The MLB entered 2022 under a lockout. How long will it last before it gets resolved is the question? It was resolved in March, delaying the season a week. Key questions: - Will there be a 162-game schedule like normal? This thread focuses on the happenings of the 2021-22 NHL season. The Tampa Bay Lightning repeated as defending Stanley Cup champions. Owen Porter went #1st overall in the 2021 NHL Draft, selected by the Buffalo Sabres. Jérémy Lauzon was selected 1st overall in the Expansion Draft from Boston by the Seattle Kraken. After a COVID-shortened season of 56 games that were confined to division-only play that necessitated realignment of the divisions due to the US/Canada Border closed to non-essential travel for most of the season, the full 82-game schedule and normal divisional alignments are back. Also, arenas are expected to open to full capacity. Certain arenas could be under mask mandates. Certain arenas will likely have a COVID vaccine and/or negative test mandate to gain entry. The NHL will have a Winter Olympic pause from February 7th to 22nd in 2022. The NHL All-Star Game, which was cancelled last year due to the COVID pandemic, is back on in Vegas as the last event prior to the Olympic break, to be held on the weekend of February 4th and 5th. The Winter Classic is back after a one-season hiatus due to the COVID pandemic, with the same opponents that would've played the 2021 game: the St. Louis Blues and Minnesota Wild at Target Field. The Seattle Kraken make its debut in the NHL, making it a 32-team league. As a result of the Kraken's arrival, the Arizona Coyotes head to the Central Division, meaning each division has 8 teams. This thread features the happenings of the 2021-22 NFL season, including the draft, preseason, regular season, and the playoff run to the Super Bowl. If you are a fan of the NFL, who do you root for? The Tampa Bay Buccaneers won the Super Bowl over the Kansas City Chiefs. This is the first season that the NFL will adopt a 17-game regular season, meaning that the preseason will be reduced to 3 games and the playoffs will get pushed back a week and the Super Bowl will now be on the 2nd Sunday in February. The previous season saw lots of games rescheduled due to COVID outbreaks, but the schedule was able to be completed. The previous NFL season was the first season that the Washington Football Team no longer went by its racist nickname and the final season that the NFL schedule was 16 games. It was also the first season to have a 14-team NFL playoff (7 per conference), which meant that the 2nd seed in each conference no longer got the 1st-round bye. This upcoming season is likely to see stadiums returning to full capacity (or at least closer to that), as vaccinations rates will continue to go up.
