official chart IFPI Global Top 10 Songs, Albums, & Artists Charts
Pop Art posted a topic in Charts & Sales
Prior to the inception of the Billboard Global 200 in 2020, the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (IFPI) was the only official agency to publish official and accurate global sales/unit data. Though we now have the Global 200 to see which songs are the biggest across the world week-by-week, the IFPI's annual Global Top 10 Songs, Albums, & Artists Charts are still invaluable sources to know which songs, albums, and artists actually perform the best globally each year when taking all consumption forms into factor. Since some of this historical data isn't the easiest to find, I thought I'd make a thread to capture all of it from inception until now with sources included for easy reference. Note that the songs chart started in 2007, the albums chart started in 2012, and the artists chart started in 2013. It's also worth noting that the songs chart began incorporating streams in 2013 and moved from a streams-to-sales based conversion to a sales-to-subscription streams based conversion in 2020, and that the albums chart remained pure sales based until 2020 when streaming data was added. From now and on, this thread will be fixed. Every week I'll post the weekly charts here. The Brazilian charts are divided by overall airplay charts (Brazilian country music, axé, funk carioca, pagode, samba, Brazilian pop/rock and international music) and the pop airplay charts (basically based on international pop/rock/dance music, latin music, brazilian funk, crossover brazilian pop music and brazilian rock music). official chart TikTok Billboard Top 50: Last Christmas #1, La La La #4
Hector posted a topic in Charts & Sales
"Last Christmas" becomes the second holiday song in the one-year history of the TikTok Billboard Top 50 chart to hit No. 1, lifting 7-1 on the Jan. 4, 2025-dated tally. Christmas music dominates the ranking due to the holiday falling amid the tracking period on Dec. 25, begetting a variety of uploads, from dances and lip syncs to creators showing off their gift hauls for the year. The chart's top 10 features another newcomer in the top 10, albeit not a Christmas song: Naughty Boy's "La La La," featuring Sam Smith, which leaps 19-4 in its second week on the tally. Though some of the uploads using "La La La" use the original version, a majority of the top-performing clips feature a sped-up sound, generally set to a dance trend. "La La La" sports a 165% jump in listens to 3.3 million streams in the week ending Dec. 26. It peaked at No. 19 on the Hot 100 in May 2014, Smith's first appearance on the list. SZA's 'SOS' Returns to No. 1 on Billboard 200 After Deluxe 'LANA' Edition Release With 15 songs added to the project, the set reclaims the top slot nearly two years after it last ruled the chart. After 22 months, SZA's chart-topping SOS returns No. 1 on the Billboard 200, as the set jumps 15-1 on the Jan. 4-dated chart. It bolts back to the top thanks largely from activity generated by the album's deluxe reissue on Dec. 20 (dubbed SOS Deluxe: LANA) that added 15 additional songs to the album. The set was originally released on Dec. 9, 2022, with 23 tracks. All versions of the album, old and new, are combined for tracking and charting purposes and continue to chart under the title SOS. SOS surges to No. 1 with 178,000 equivalent album units earned in the U.S. in the week ending Dec. 26 (up 297%), according to Luminate. With its return to No. 1, the set collects an 11th nonconsecutive week atop the list, and its first since the March 4, 2023-dated chart. That 22-month gap between weeks at No. 1 is the longest for any album since the Billboard 200 began publishing on a regular, weekly basis in March 1956. Notably, had the 15 new songs on the LANA deluxe edition of the album been released as a new stand-alone album, its track activity alone would have been enough for that stand-alone set to debut atop the list. (The 15 new songs generated 105,000 in SEA and TEA units. The No. 2 title this week, Michael Bublé's former leader Christmas, earned 100,000 units from SEA, TEA and traditional album sales combined.) SOS debuted atop the Billboard 200 dated Dec. 24, 2022, and logged 10 nonconsecutive weeks at No. 1 on the list through the March 4, 2023-dated chart. It has never left the weekly top 20 of the chart during the 107 consecutive weeks that it has spent on the list. SOS closed 2024 at No. 6 on the year-end Billboard 200 Albums chart, after it was No. 3 on the year-end list in 2023. Also in the top 10 of the latest Billboard 200 chart, Frank Sinatra scores his first top 10-charting in over a decade, as his holiday compilation Ultimate Christmas vaults 17-10. The Billboard 200 chart ranks the most popular albums of the week in the U.S. based on multi-metric consumption as measured in equivalent album units, compiled by Luminate. Units comprise album sales, track equivalent albums (TEA) and streaming equivalent albums (SEA). Each unit equals one album sale, or 10 individual tracks sold from an album, or 3,750 ad-supported or 1,250 paid/subscription on-demand official audio and video streams generated by songs from an album. The new Jan. 4, 2025-dated chart will be posted in full on Billboard's website on Tuesday (Dec. 31). Plus, the chart's top 10 is all-holiday for the first time. Mariah Carey's "All I Want for Christmas Is You" crowns the Billboard Hot 100 for an 18th total week. The carol, which leads for a fourth consecutive week this holiday season, moves to within one week of the longest domination in the chart's 66-year history, after only the 19-week rules of Shaboozey's "A Bar Song (Tipsy)" this year and Lil Nas X's "Old Town Road," featuring Billy Ray Cyrus, in 2019. "All I Want for Christmas Is You" was originally released on Carey's album Merry Christmas in November 1994 and, as streaming has grown and holiday music has become more prominent on streaming services' playlists, it hit the Hot 100's top 10 for the first time in December 2017, and the top five for the first time in the 2018 holiday season. It led at last, prior to the past four weeks, over the holidays in 2019 (for three weeks), 2020 (two), 2021 (three), 2022 (four) and 2023 (two). The track also holds at No. 1 on the Streaming Songs chart for a record-extending 22nd week, leads Digital Song Sales for a sixth week and hits the Radio Songs top 10 for the first time. "All I Want for Christmas Is You" became Carey's 19th Hot 100 No. 1, the most among soloists and one away from The Beatles' overall record 20. It also made Carey the first artist to have ranked at No. 1 on the chart in four distinct decades (1990s, 2000s, '10s and '20s). In a historic first, the Hot 100's top 10 consists entirely of holiday hits. In fact, the top 16 spots on the chart belong to seasonal songs; Lady Gaga and Bruno Mars' "Die With a Smile" is the top non-Yuletide title, at No. 17 after reaching No. 2. Previously, holiday songs hit a high by infusing the top eight positions a year ago this week (along with nine of the top 10 last week, a year ago this week and four years ago this week). Among the Hot 100's top 10, Ariana Grande "Santa Tell Me" dashes 9-5, becoming only the eighth holiday song in the chart's history to reach the top five, and Nat King Cole's "The Christmas Song (Merry Christmas To You)" returns to the tier (14-10, after reaching No. 9). The Hot 100 blends all-genre U.S. streaming (official audio and official video), radio airplay and sales data, the lattermost metric reflecting purchases of physical singles and digital tracks from full-service digital music retailers; digital singles sales from direct-to-consumer (D2C) sites are excluded from chart calculations. All charts (dated Jan. 4, 2025) will update on Billboard.com tomorrow (Dec. 31). The carol led for five weeks last holiday season, following annual No. 1 runs of four weeks (over the 2022 holidays), three weeks (2021) and one week (2020). Stray Kids Score Sixth No. 1 on Billboard 200 With 'HOP' Plus: Mariah Carey's 'Merry Christmas' returns to the top 10. Stray Kids score their sixth No. 1 on the Billboard 200 albums chart as HOP debuts atop the list dated Dec. 28. It's the sixth leader for the group, making the pop ensemble the first act to debut at No. 1 with its first six chart entries in the nearly 69-year history of the chart. The Billboard 200 began publishing on a regular, weekly basis in March 1956. Stray Kids previously opened atop the chart with ODDINARY and MAXIDENT (both in 2022), ROCK-STAR and 5-STAR (both in 2023) and ATE (earlier in 2024). Further, with a sixth No. 1, Stray Kids tie BTS, Linkin Park and Dave Matthews Band for the most No. 1s among groups on the Billboard 200 in this century (since 2000). HOP arrives with 187,000 equivalent album units earned in the U.S. in the week ending Dec. 19, according to Luminate, largely driven by traditional album sales. Also in the top 10 of the latest Billboard 200, Mariah Carey's Merry Christmas jingles back to the top 10 for a seventh consecutive holiday season, as the 1994 release climbs 14-10. The set, which contains the Billboard Hot 100-topping "All I Want for Christmas Is You," peaked at No. 3 in 1994. The new Dec. 28, 2024-dated chart will be posted in full on Billboard's website on Tuesday, Dec. 24. Plus, Ariana Grande and Kelly Clarkson carols hit the top 10 for the first time. Mariah Carey's "All I Want for Christmas Is You" tops the Billboard Hot 100 for a 17th total week. The song solely gives Carey her longest career command on the chart, surpassing the 16-week No. 1 run of her "One Sweet Day," with Boyz II Men, in 1995-96. The carol, which leads the Hot 100 for a third consecutive week this holiday season, also solely claims the third-longest domination in the chart's 66-year history, after only the 19-week rules of Shaboozey's "A Bar Song (Tipsy)" this year and Lil Nas X's "Old Town Road," featuring Billy Ray Cyrus, in 2019. Three other songs, including "One Sweet Day," have led for 16 weeks each. "All I Want for Christmas Is You" additionally leads the Streaming Songs chart for a record-breaking 21st total week, besting "Old Town Road" for the longest No. 1 stay dating to the survey's 2013 start. It led at last, prior to the past three weeks, over the holidays in 2019 (for three weeks), 2020 (two), 2021 (three), 2022 (four) and 2023 (two). Meanwhile, two fellow original holiday hits, released in the 2010s, hit the Hot 100's top 10 for the first time: Ariana Grande "Santa Tell Me," from 2014 (14-9), and Kelly Clarkson's "Underneath the Tree," from 2013 (15-10). Both songs previously peaked at No. 11 last holiday season. Notably, "Santa Tell Me" becomes the most-recently-released holiday song to have reached the Hot 100's top 10, while "Underneath the Tree" is the second-newest. All charts (dated Dec. 28, 2024) will update on Billboard.com tomorrow (Dec. 24). official chart TikTok Billboard Top 50: Paper Planes #1, Peggy #9
Hector posted a topic in Charts & Sales
Its rise in December 2024 is linked to a dance trend, while Diplo (one of the song's producers/writers) weighed in last week with an upload noting the tune's revitalization. "Paper Planes" concurrently boasts 4.4 million official U.S. streams in the week ending Dec. 19, up 19%, according to Luminate. It lifts 10-9 on Hot Alternative Songs and debuts at No. 20 on Alternative Streaming Songs. The other new top 10 – in this case a newcomer – is Ceechnyaa's "Peggy," which leaps 18-9 in its second week on the ranking. The British rapper's latest single was released on Dec. 5 and has gone viral for its raunchy lyrical content, with some of the top-performing TikTok uploads being reaction videos alongside lip-synch clips. "Peggy" shoots 63% to 3.1 million streams in the week ending Dec. 19, though the TikTok Billboard Top 50 is the only chart it's made so far. -

The hit now claims nine of the top 10 global streaming weeks among songs released in 2024: 224.5 million, "APT.," ROSÉ & Bruno Mars, Nov. 2 207.5 million, "APT.," Nov. 9 176.8 million, "Fortnight," Taylor Swift feat. U.S. with 124.9 million streams (down 4%) and 12,000 sold (up 1%) outside the U.S. Dec. 13-19. Mariah Carey's "All I Want for Christmas Is You" keeps at No. 2 on the Global 200. Released in 1994, the song has spent a record 18 weeks at No. 1 dating to the chart's start (five each over the 2023 and 2022 holidays and four in both the 2021 and 2020 holiday seasons). Plus, Lady Gaga and Mars' "Die With a Smile" is steady at No. 4 on the Global 200, following eight weeks at No. 1, the most for any song this year, beginning in September. It drew 125.6 million streams (up 4%) worldwide in the latest tracking frame and has tallied over 100 million streams globally in each of the last 16 weeks, the longest such streak since the chart began. Five other carols rank in the Global 200's top 10: Wham's "Last Christmas" (No. 3), Brenda Lee's "Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree" (No. 5), Bobby Helms' "Jingle Bell Rock" (No. 6) all hold in place, followed by Ariana Grande's "Santa Tell Me" (10-9) and Kelly Clarkson's "Underneath the Tree" (11-10). The songs have hit respective Nos. 2, 2, 4, 5 and 6 highs. Wow, APT. ROSÉ is definitely a main pop girl for ATRL standards. -

Taylor Swift's 'The Tortured Poets Department' Logs 17th Week at No. 1 on Billboard 200 Plus: ROSÉ and TWICE debut in the top five, while Sabrina Carpenter's "Fruitcake" hits the top 10 for the first time. Taylor Swift's The Tortured Poets Department notches a 17th week at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 albums chart (dated Dec. 21), as the set holds atop the list after rushing back to No. 1 a week ago after its deluxe Anthology edition was released on CD and vinyl exclusively at Target. In the tracking week ending Dec. 12, the album earned 240,000 equivalent album units (down 41%) in the U.S., according to Luminate, with over 80% of that sum driven by physical album sales. Also in the top 10 of the new Billboard 200 chart, ROSÉ's debut solo album rosie bows at No. 3, TWICE's Strategy enters at No. 4 and Sabrina Carpenter's holiday set Fruitcake reenters the chart at No. 10 for its first week in the top 10, after its wide physical release. The new Dec. 21, 2024-dated chart will be posted in full on Billboard's website on Tuesday (Dec. 17). Mariah Carey's "All I Want for Christmas Is You" crowns the Billboard Hot 100 for a 16th total week. The song matches her longest command on the chart, first set by "One Sweet Day," with Boyz II Men, in 1995-96. The carol, which tops the Hot 100 for a second consecutive week this holiday season, also ties for the third-longest total domination in the chart's 66-year history, after only the 19-week No. 1 runs of Shaboozey's "A Bar Song (Tipsy)" this year and Lil Nas X's "Old Town Road," featuring Billy Ray Cyrus, in 2019. Notably, with "All I Want for Christmas Is You" and "One Sweet Day," Carey has logged the Hot 100's two longest-leading No. 1s by a woman artist. She's also tied for the third-longest reign among women, thanks to 14 weeks at No. 1 for "We Belong Together" in 2005. "All I Want for Christmas Is You" additionally leads the Streaming Songs chart for a record-tying 20th total week, equaling "Old Town Road" for the longest No. 1 stay dating to the chart's 2013 start. It led at last, prior to the past two weeks, over the holidays in 2019 (for three weeks), 2020 (two), 2021 (three), 2022 (four) and 2023 (two). The choir-led rendition of the song has earned TikTok prominence thanks most recently to a trend in which creators tell a long text-based story (often one that's embarrassing for the user), accompanied by a photo of Pepe from The Muppets. This version of "Like a Prayer" earned 1.5 million official U.S. streams in the week ending Dec. 12, a gain of 37%, according to Luminate. Madonna's original, meanwhile, has received auxiliary attention of its own: 1.6 million streams, up 12%. "Paper Planes," a No. 4 hit on the Hot 100 for M.I.A. in 2008, vaults 21-2 in its second week on the TikTok Billboard Top 50 thanks to a dance trend. Its corresponding streaming gains are enough to push the song onto the Hot Rock & Alternative Songs chart at No. 16 via 3.7 million streams, a gain of 29%. Wow Like A Prayer & Paper Planes -
