    Civics Rules

ATRL Civics Rules & Guidelines The ATRL Civics section is dedicated to empowering discussion around politics, current events, and elections across the world. While we welcome spirited debate for this section, respectful boundaries must be maintained. To that end, see the below rules regarding proper conduct in the ATRL Civics forum. Conduct Members are free to criticize politicians and/or political ideologies. Debates should be constructive. Personal attacks, trolling, and/or baiting other members is not acceptable. While we welcome participation of those across the political spectrum, citing political to evade the established Zero Tolerance Policy (ZTP) meant to combat racism, sexism, xenophobia, and other forms of bigotry is not legitimate. In short, the ZTP will be enforced. While discussion can naturally become heated, we hope that you practice ignoring members if you feel you are getting too worked up. Remember, you do not need to respond to everyone. Personal disagreement is natural and crossing the line on ATRL is not worth it. Targeted reporting of members whose political ideology is different from your own is highly discouraged and can be met with a WP. Political Base Threads First, it is important to establish that members will engage in the Civics section for countless reasons. Grossly speaking, we believe most members will want to participate in Civics to (i) casually chat about current events in the (political) world and (ii) debate on politics, current events, and the geopolitical climate at large Casual conversations and heavy debate on subjects relevant to the Civics section is welcome and legitimate. However, we want to ensure that this section is safe and welcome for members who want to participate in both of these modes. To this end, we distinguish between political base threads meant more for casual conversations and political base threads where debate is more welcome. Political Base Threads for Casual Conversation. These threads are not meant to allow for intense back-and-forth discussion. Reserve debates for the other Politics Base Threads. General & Casual Politics Thread Political Base Threads for Debates and thorough Discourse. US Politics Thread Social Democratic & Democratic Socialists Thread Sometimes it is natural that debate may spark up in threads meant for for casual conversation. This is likely to be an awkward tightrope that we will actively work on in time. Please be flexible with us as we all get the hang of it. FAQ Can members say "F**k [insert politician here]"? Yes. Outside of the Civics section, similar comments would be met with a WP. However, politicians and pop stars are not comparable and discussion surrounding them should be viewed differently. Can members express bad feelings for a politician? Generally yes. Politicians are not pop stars. Political leaders are people that can have immensely harmful impacts on our lives. People are allowed to express negative feelings towards said politicians. Wishing death upon them though is beyond the pale and will be warned accordingly.

The ATRL Top 50 of 2023

All credit to @TRF. I'm back like I forgot something (I swear I didn't!) Over the next few days, I'll be unveiling the official yearend that a select few of y'all voted on. BUT FIRST. Some close calls! All songs that came close - but no cigar.

    HDD: Taylor #1 375k, Billie #2 329k

Is this further proof that this is all simply part of Taylor's album rollout as has been for the past several of her albums and NOT a pointed event? https://m.hitsdailydouble.com/news&id=341366&title=

The 12th Annual ATRL Critics Circle

Started this and realized... all of ATRL was moved this year! So, in the spirit of @supaspaz bringing back the ATRL Grammys, here we go again! Now is the time that film's award season is in full swing, and a big part of it consists of critics from major and regional markets gathering around and picking their favorite performances/films of the year. And we do that with music! So drop a line if you want to FYC, start discussion, or want to be a part of voting! More will be explained, but here are the categories we (usually) choose from: Album Single Song (lyrics/music) Album Track EP Male Female Group/Band Breakthrough Artist Pop Dance/Electronic R&B Progressive/Contemporary R&B Rock Alternative Independent Country Rap Latin World Comeback (for any artist who's been gone for more than five years) Singles Run (for the artist who put out the best collection of singles this calendar year) Collaboration Music Video Producer/Songwriter Adele and Beyoncé tied in our first year - one of these ladies released something new in 2022, and I think she will be very successful with our critics this time around. But it's up to you! Date of ceremony TBD. Let's go!

The 13th Annual ATRL Critics Circle

So, to those unfamiliar - maybe someone can link to archived posts? - we do (with the exception of 2022... yet) an annual critics circle, akin to the awards film critics announce at the end of the year. We (the participants) get in a heated room (read: Discord server) and debate our favorites, until we pick winners in categories. The categories? Album Single Song (lyrics/music) Album Track EP Male Female Group/Band Breakthrough Artist Pop Dance/Electronic R&B Progressive/Contemporary R&B Rock Alternative Independent Country Rap Latin World Comeback (for any artist who's been gone for more than five years) Singles Run (for the artist who put out the best collection of singles this calendar year) Collaboration Music Video Producer/Songwriter Previous winners include Adele, Beyoncé, Lorde (x2), Run The Jewels, Carly Rae Jepsen, Robyn, Dua Lipa, and Jessie Ware. Who will win this year? Up to you! As far as a date, I'm feeling either 12/21 or 12/27 - what say y'all?

Morgan Wallen has held the top spot for eight consecutive weeks, but his One Thing at a Time (Big Loud/Mercury/Republic) is now in a dead heat with Pledis/Geffen’s SEVENTEEN. Both entries are projecting to just under 140k today. Watch this space for further developments. Three other new releases seem poised to debut inside the Top 10, Jack Harlow’s Jackman. (Generation Now/Atlantic), Eslabon Armado’s DESVELADO (DEL) and The National’s First Two Pages of Frankenstein (4AD). There’s a lot a congestion this week so look for some things to move around ahead of the final chart. https://hitsdailydouble.com/news&id=335794&title=TOP-20%3A-A-TIGHT-BATTLE
