On 08 December 2017, Disturbed celebrated the two-year anniversary of is release of the video "The Sound Of Silence." The video now has over 309.7 million views, and the RIAA certified TSOS Triple Platinum on 29 November 2017, despite peaking at only #42 in its 20-week recurrency-shortened stay on the Hot 100. The TSOS video also led to a remarkable boost in video views of Disturbed's earlier videos. TSOS's low peak was the result of four major factors. First, a lack of mainstream format airplay -- only a few Top 40 and HAC stations played the song enough for it to barely reach the Top 50 of those two MB charts. Secondly, the fact that the Conan O'Brien performance video, while earning Disturbed's second-only Grammy nomination and a huge sales boost, was not counted toward TSOS total video views also hurt the song's peak. The Conan TSOS performance has over 70 million views too. TSOS ultimately lost the Grammy of Best Rock Performance to David Bowie's "Blackstar". Bowie, who had never won a Grammy in his life, swept all five awards for which he was nominated. TSOS would likely have won the award had the music world not been mourning, and rightly so Bowie's unexpected passing. Lastly, TSOS peaked at #137 on Spotify's T 200 US daily chart, and at #163 on Spotify's weekly chart. While both of these peaks are beyond amazing for a band from the Active/Mainstream Rock format, they are subpar compared to songs from almost every other genre. TSOS topped Mediabase's All Stations + Recurrents Active Rock audience chart for 9 weeks, whereas of 07 December 2017 the song sits at #33 in audience in its 693rd day on the AR AS+R Chart. TSOS reached the Top 20 on MB's Alternative Chart, and #22 on BB's Alternative Songs Chart, spending a recurrency-shortened 20 week stay on the chart while still ranked within the Top 30. TSOS still holds the audience record at the Active Rock format, with 8.071 M impressions during its peak week. TSOS has (to-date) spent 430 days in the ITunes Top 100, and has never fallen out of the ITunes Top 200 following the video's release. TSOS had held the record for the longest stay in the ITunes Top 100 while failing to reach the Top Ten until the Blacklist finale aired the song, and finally pushed TSOS up to #9. While there has been a lag in recent Soundscan updates, TSOS has probably now sold over 1.6 M downloads. On the BB 2016 Overall YE Charts, TSOS ranked at #33 on the Hot Digital Songs Chart, #5 on the Rock Digital Songs Chart, #16 on the Rock Streaming Songs Chart, #2 on BB's and MB's 2016 Mainstream/Active Rock Airplay Charts (Spins, not Impressions), #23 on BB's Rock Airplay Songs Chart (Impressions, not Spins), and #9 on BB's Rock Songs Chart, where it peaked at #3 in its 52-week run on the chart. In all but 10 of those 52 weeks, TSOS ranked within the Top 10 on the Rock Songs Chart. TSOS looks certain to rank in the 2017 Hard Rock and Rock Digital Song Sales YE charts again, though it may come up short on the Rock Streaming Songs Chart. TSOS' parent album Immortalized finished the year as the #1 Hard Rock Album (where it still charts at # 13 in its 112th week), #7 on the Rock Albums Chart, and #46 on the BB 200 YE Chart, and is approaching Platinum thanks to selling over 600k physical copies, 300k in TSOS SPS, and increased streams and sales from the other songs on the album. Immortalized is on the bubble for 2017's BB 200 YE Chart, but is certain to place on the Hard Rock and Rock Albums YE Charts.
