  1. WARSAW, Poland (AP) — A respected Polish scientific institute has classified domestic cats as an “invasive alien species,” citing the damage they cause to birds and other wildlife. Some cat lovers have reacted emotionally to this month’s decision and put the key scientist behind it on the defensive. https://apnews.com/article/science-poland-wildlife-cats-birds-b942a55135832d085375de73c9cc2e23 Cats have contributed to the extinction of 63 species of vertebrates, says Peter Marra, director of the Georgetown Environment Initiative. “The fact that they’ve caused these extinctions is bad enough…. [Additionally] we know that they have a significant impact on populations globally, whether they’re threatened or not,” he says. https://www.nationalgeographic.co.uk/animals/2020/09/the-232-animals-in-this-photo-were-killed-by-house-cats-in-just-one-year/amp Hopefully they take us out next
  2. Domino’s Pizza Inc.’s footprint in the home of Pizza proved to be short lived with Italians favoring local restaurants over the American version. The last of Domino’s 29 branches have closed after the company started operations in the country seven years ago. It borrowed heavily for plans to open 880 stores, but faced tough competition from local restaurants expanding delivery services during the pandemic and sought protection from creditors after running out of cash and falling behind on its debt obligations. The US chain entered Italy in 2015 through a franchising agreement with ePizza SpA and planned to distinguish itself by providing a structured national delivery service along with American-style toppings including pineapple. https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2022-08-09/domino-s-pizza-leaves-italy-as-traditional-margherita-wins?

https://www.cnn.com/election/2022/results/kansas/primaries Just shows the BIG mistake Biden made to try to frame this as an extremist activist position. This is what will most likely save Dems from the sure bloodbath midterms were going to be. _

  8. A red extreme heat warning has been issued by the Met Office for parts of England next week, meaning a risk to life is likely as temperatures could hit 40C (104F). It points to there being a danger to life, with the risk of illness not limited to vulnerable people. This highest warning, covering London and parts of central England, warns of widespread impacts to people's lives. The heatwave could cause disruption to travel and infrastructure. The red warning, which is in place on Monday and Tuesday, covers London and the Midlands and goes as far north as Manchester and York. It means substantial changes in working practices and daily routines will be required, the Met Office said As well as the red warning an amber warning remains in place across most of England. The weather at the start of next week is forecast to be warm across the UK but temperatures will be more like 30C in Scotland and Northern Ireland, rather than the high 30s predicted in parts of England and Wales. It is the first time a red heat warning has been issued, although the extreme heat warning system was only introduced in 2021. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-62177458
