  8. Frozen yogurt was a huge fad in the early 2010s. It was something sweet and harmless that the GP loved to consume for a couple years. It was the Obama era, a time of centrist prosperity and carefree sugar. At least in the area I grew up, there were over ten froyo shops that popped up around 2012, and business was booming. As patrons were stuffing their iced treat cups with overpriced candied toppings, they were likely to hear one of Katy Perry's many hits blaring out of the shops' speakers. But by 2017, the majority of these shops had closed their doors, and Ms. Katheryn came tumbling down the charts. This article even compared the froyo trend dying off to Katy no longer smashing. These paired phenomena represent the inevitable decay of the post-2008 recession optimism, when everything started to look a little bleaker and taste a bit more bitter. Which other sociocultural trends or events can be aptly compared to a pop girl's career trajectory?

    Janet (album) turns 30

Janet (stylized as janet.) is the fifth studio album by American singer Janet Jackson, released on May 18, 1993, by Virgin Records America. Prior to its release, Jackson was at the center of a high-profile bidding war over her recording contract. In 1991, her original label A&M sought to renew her contract, while others, such as Atlantic, Capitol, and Virgin all vied to sign her. After meeting with Virgin owner Richard Branson, she signed with the label. The contract was worth an estimated $40 million, making her the world's then-highest paid musical act.
  11. This November marks 10 years since the release of Myah Marie Britney Jean. Described as Britney’s “most personal” album at the time, it was intended to allow fans a glimpse into the more private facets of Britney's life. However, the album was met with mixed reviews and is generally regarded as one of her less successful releases. One of the primary controversies surrounding "Britney Jean" involves allegations about the authenticity of the vocals on the album. Rumors circulated that some of Britney's parts were actually sung by Myah Marie, a backup singer and songwriter who has worked with Spears on several projects. Marie herself denied these claims, but the controversy continues to surround the album. This suspicion was fueled in part by the fact that Britney's voice on "Britney Jean" often sounds notably different from her previous work. Both critics and fans noticed a change in the vocal quality and sound, leading to guesses about the use of auto-tune, voice modifications, or even the possibility of a completely different singer performing the parts. Another point of contention that had Britney stans fuming is the way "Britney Jean" was marketed. It was hyped up as Britney's most personal work ever, promising an authentic, emotional journey into her world - it was meant to be Britney like never seen before! However, when the album was released, it just didn't vibe with what fans were expecting. They were ready for raw, personal anthems that gave a real insight into Britney's life, but the tracks felt lacking. The songs appeared a bit too generic, and the lyrics lack the heart and soul and vocals they were promised. The whole situation just didn't sit right with the fans, and it felt like the Britney they knew and loved was getting lost in the mix replaced by Myah.
  12. Literally no major acts are predicted to be dropping in May / June so far who will be able to push Morgan OUT. He has been #1 on the Hot 100 and Billboard 200 for majority of march, april and now may… The first major release scheduled as of now is Speak Now TV… July 7th 💀💀💀 Will Morgan seriously be #1 until early July? If not what artist do you think will be the first to go #1 on the Billboard 200 and Hot 100 after him… I hope it isnt Taylor until July

  15. Both Taylor and Miley found successes in 2023 with hits like Anti-Hero and Flowers. Co-incidentally their 2019 and 2020 album cuts "Cruel Summer" and "Angels Like You" are reaching new streaming highs everyday on Spotify. Both charting in the top 40 on Spotify Global (ALY #30, Cruel Summer #36). Cruel Summer was never released as a radio single. Angels Like You did get very brief single treatment but it is save to say Miley barely promoted this song in favor of Prisoner. Should they re-release them a la 2023 and take it to even bigger highs or focus on their current singles? (Karma / Jaded)

  21. Inspired by this thread: I was thinking about how Hayley Kiyoko essentially forced Rita Ora to come out following her twitter rant about this song. Kehlani and one of the MUNA girlies also joined in. Was it wrong of them to assume everyone's sexual experiences must replicate their own? It's especially ironic when you consider Kehlani's taken ages to figure out her sexuality so you'd think she'd be more empathetic. When you think about how Harry Styles' entire persona is the same as the message of this song, doesn't it seem weird that he's allowed to keep his sexuality to himself but Rita's was put under the microscope after what was essentially a mid-sized flop song?
