  1. Billboard 200 Chart Moves: 'Trolls' Soundtrack Hits Half-Million Sales As the Trolls soundtrack (No. 10 on the Billboard 200) sold another 19,000 copies in the week ending March 16, according to Nielsen Music, the set’s total sales pass the half-million mark (to 513,000). It’s the second soundtrack released in the past 12 months to cross the sales threshold, following the Suicide Squad album (536,000). It was released on digital home video on Jan. 24 and then reached DVD and Blu-ray on Feb. 7. A few weeks later, on Feb. 26, Justin Timberlake opened the Academy Awards with a performance of the film’s best original song-nominated tune, “Can’t Stop the Feeling!”
  2. More Life’s songs collected a whopping 89.9 million streams globally in the album’s first 24 hours of release on Apple Music. That’s a new single-day record for streams of songs from an album on Apple Music. Spotify reports that on More Life’s first full day of release, March 19 (following its bow in the early evening of March 18), it generated the best first-day streams for an album on the service: The set’s songs collected 61.3 million global streams. http://www.billboard.com/articles/columns/chart-beat/7728843/drake-breaks-apple-music-spotify-streaming-records-more-life
  3. He might not have the No. 1 single in the country at the moment, and his latest Earth-shattering album isn’t moving units like it once was, but that doesn’t mean people have stopped listening to Drake, especially when it comes to streaming.Swedish streaming giant Spotify has just revealed that the hip-hop star has just become the first act to hit the 10 billion-stream count, further proving a popularity nobody was second guessing.A large portion of Drake’s 10 billion plays are thanks to his latest full-length, Views, which took over the world when it was released last year. His first No. 1 hit as a lead artist, “One Dance,” which wound up being the most popular cut from the blockbuster record, now has 1.15 billion plays alone, or just over 10% of his e. Back in December, the song became the first to reach the one billion play milestone. Plenty of other songs from Views have impressive play counts, including “Hotline Bling” with just over 600 million, “Too Good” with 520 million and “Controlla” with over 340 million. In fact, Drake racked up well over two billion streams with his last album alone, which hasn't yet been out for a year.A large chunk of Drake’s 10 billion streams may come from Views, but he also has a sizable back catalog that continues to be streamed by people all over the world every day. He now can count seven full-lengths of his own, each of which spun off successful singles, and he has been featured on literally hundreds of tracks fronted by other artists. While there are certainly standout smashes among the hundreds of songs featuring Drake's name, every stream counts, and they add up quickly. As time passes, Drake’s new music is played even more intensely than his older material, even if some of those songs were more successful when they were first released. New single “Fake Love,” which he released back in December, already has well over 320 million plays, while “Best I Ever Had,” the No. 2-charting song that helped launch him as a star, only has 78 million streams. As more and more people sign on and begin using Spotify (the company just hit 50 million paying subscribers earlier this month), the new hits from the biggest names will continue to collect streams at incredible rates. It’s only a matter of time before another global superstar hits the 10 billion mark, but by that time, Drake likely will have reached 15 billion, or possibly even 20. These are still early days for Spotify and streaming in general, and the numbers are only going to grow larger and larger. https://www.forbes.com/sites/hughmcintyre/2017/03/17/drake-is-the-first-artist-to-hit-10-billion-streams-on-spotify
  4. As Ed Sheeran's "Shape of You" spends a seventh week atop the Billboard Hot 100 (dated March 25), the inescapable tune crosses a notable chart threshold, becoming a rare hit so big that it boasts more than twice as many Hot 100 chart points as its nearest competitor, the current No. 2 being "Bad and Boujee" by Migos featuring Lil Uzi Vert. In essence: "Shape of You" is so huge right now that it is two times more popular than the No. 2 song of the week. Unsurprisingly, the list contains enduring megahits like Whitney Houston's "I Will Always Love You," which logged the longest (and first) two-to-one points lead, with nine of its 14 total weeks atop the Hot 100 with such a margin of victory. Elton John's "Candle in the Wind 1997"/"Something About the Way You Look Tonight," meanwhile, claims the biggest-ever ratio lead over a No. 2 song: It debuted at No. 1 on Oct. 11, 1997, with a massive 17 times the amount of points of the No. 2 challenger (Boyz II Men's "4 Seasons of Loneliness"). How did John score the most lopsided victory? "Candle," his tribute to the then-recently deceased Diana, Princess of Wales, sold a Nielsen-record 3.4 million physical singles in its first week of tracking. (Remember, this was back in 1997, before YouTube and digital downloads; the only way fans were able to access a Hot 100 hit on-demand was to buy a commercially released single on CD, cassette tape or, although somewhat hard-to-find at that point, 7-inch vinyl.) With Sheeran's double-dominance on the March 25-dated Hot 100, he becomes the latest member of the all-star squad to have outscored runners-up by at least a two-to-one points margin, and the first since Adele, who joined with her monster ballad "Hello" in 2015. Here's the full list: "I Will Always Love You," Whitney Houston Nine weeks with 2x points as No. 2: Dec. 12, 1992-Feb. 6, 1993 Six weeks above No. 2 "If I Fall in Love" by Shai; three weeks above No. 2 "Rump Shaker" by Wreckx-n-Effect "I'll Make Love to You," Boyz II Men Three weeks with 2x points as No. 2: Sept. 10-24, 1994 All above No. 2 "Stay (I Missed You)" by Lisa Loeb & Nine Stories "Tha Crossroads," Bone Thugs-n-Harmony Three weeks with 2x points as No. 2: June 8-22, 1996 Two weeks above No. 2 "Always Be My Baby" by Mariah Carey; one week above No. 2 "You're Makin' Me High"/"Let It Flow" by Toni Braxton "I'll Be Missing You," Puff Daddy & Faith Evans featuring 112 Two weeks with 2x points as No. 2: July 5-12, 1997 One week above No. 2 "Mmmbop" by Hanson; one week above No. 2 "Bitch" by Meredith Brooks "Candle in the Wind 1997 / Something About The Way You Look Tonight," Elton John Five weeks with 2x points as No. 2: Oct. 11-Nov. 8, 1997 Two weeks above No. 2 "4 Seasons of Loneliness" by Boyz II Men; three weeks above No. 2 "You Make Me Wanna…" by Usher "My Heart Will Go On," Celine Dion One week with 2x points as No. 2: Feb. 28, 1998 Above No. 2 "Nice and Slow" by Usher "All My Life," K-Ci & JoJo One week with 2x points as No. 2: April 4, 1998 Above No. 2 "Frozen" by Madonna "The Boy Is Mine," Brandy & Monica Two weeks with 2x points as No. 2: June 20-27, 1998 Both above No. 2 "You're Still the One" by Shania Twain "I Don't Wanna Miss a Thing," Aerosmith One week with 2x points as No. 2: Sept. 5, 1998 Above No. 2 "The First Night" by Monica "Heartbreaker," Mariah Carey featuring Jay-Z One week with 2x points as No. 2: Oct. 9, 1999 Above No. 2 "Smooth" by Santana featuring Rob Thomas "All For You," Janet Jackson One week with 2x points as No. 2: April 14, 2001 Above No. 2 "Survivor" by Destiny's Child "Hips Don't Lie," Shakira featuring Wyclef Jean One week with 2x points as No. 2: June 17, 2006 Above No. 2 "Ridin" by Chamillionaire featuring Krayzie Bone "Sexyback," Justin Timberlake Two weeks with 2x points as No. 2: Sept. 9-16, 2006 Both above No. 2 "London Bridge" by Fergie "Right Round," Flo Rida One week with 2x points as No. 2: Feb. 28, 2009 Above No. 2 "Dead and Gone" by T.I. featuring Justin Timberlake "Harlem Shake," Baauer Four weeks with 2x points as No. 2: March 2-March 23, 2013 All above No. 2 "Thrift Shop" by Macklemore & Ryan Lewis featuring Wanz "Blurred Lines," Robin Thicke featuring T.I. + Pharrell Two weeks with 2x points as No. 2: Aug. 17-Aug. 24, 2013 Both above No. 2 "We Can't Stop" by Miley Cyrus "Hello," Adele Three weeks with 2x points as No. 2: Nov. 14-Nov. 28, 2015 All above No. 2 "Sorry" by Justin Bieber "Shape of You," Ed Sheeran One week with 2x points as No. 2 (to date): March 25, 2017 Above No. 2 "Bad and Boujee" by Migos featuring Lil Uzi Vert http://www.billboard.com/biz/articles/7728492/why-ed-sheerans-shape-of-you-is-one-of-the-most-dominant-hot-100-no-1-hits-of Shape Of You being this massive. 13. The albums that spawned the most Top 10 singles (UK) To celebrate the 60th anniversary of the Official Albums Chart, we look back at the albums that have made the biggest contribution to the Top 10 of the singles chart. Who's been sending the most hits to challenge for the Number 1? The answer may surprise you… 10 Top 10 singles In March 2017, the unthinkable happened. Not only did Ed Sheeran's ÷ dominate on the Official Albums Chart - becoming the third fastest-selling album ever and fastest-selling vinyl product in over 20 years - but the album's entire roster of tracks stormed the Official Singles Chart. Surpassing Calvin Harris' previous record (more on that below), the following Ed songs from ÷ have hit the Top 10: Shape of You (1), Castle on the Hill (2), How Would You Feel (2), Galway Girl (2), Perfect (4), New Man (5), Happier (6), Dive (8), Supermarket Flowers (9) and What Do I Know (10). 9 Top 10 singles DJ and producer and Instagram fave Calvin Harris, whose 2012 chart-topper 18 Months scored a whopping NINE Top 10s: Bounce, feat. Kelis (2); Feel So Close (2); We Found Love, with Rihanna (1); Let's Go feat. Ne-Yo (2), We'll Be Coming Back, feat. Example (2); Sweet Nothing, with Florence Welch (1), I Need Your Love, with Ellie Goulding (4), Drinking From The Bottle, feat. Tinie Tempah (5) and Thinking About You, feat. Ayah Marar (8). PHEW. 8 Top 10 singles Two albums can claim the 'octopus tentacles' honour – we're not sure that's going to catch on, tbh – and they're pretty recent too. First up is Jess Glynne's debut I Cry When I Laugh, which topped the charts in 2015. The album contains a whopping 8 Top 10s, starting with Jess's first ever Number 1, and million-seller, Rather Be, with Clean Bandit, and ending with Take Me Home, which reached Number 6 in late 2015. The album contains five Number 1s, which is kind of a UK chart record – Jess isn't lead artist on all of them, though. The most Number 1s off an album all by the same artist? Westlife's self-titled debut album, which features five chart toppers. Impressive! Also claiming eight Top 10s from an album is French twiddler of knobs and spinner of disques David Guetta. The repack of his Nothing But The Beat album included million-selling Titanium with Sia, plus seven other Top 10s collaborating with the likes of Usher, Nicki Minaj and Akon. If you think that's cheating, the original version of the LP still featured six Top 10s, so it's still well worth a mention. Allez-y, Dave! 7 Top 10 singles OK, now it's time to get our torches out and wade a little a bit deeper into the archives. The King of Pop himself Michael Jackson has two albums which have both been the proud parents of seven Top 10s each. Bad (1987) counts its title track, The Way You Make Me Feel, Man in the Mirror and Smooth Criminal among its iconic clutch of Top 10s. Dangerous (1991) has its fair share of classics too – Black Or White, In The Closet, Heal The World to name just three. Shamone! Finally, we make way for a leading lady with loads of Top 10s under her belt. Our highest international female artist on the countdown is girl-kisser and dark horse Katy Perry. Her 2012 reissue of Teenage Dream contained seven Top 10s, kicking off with the 2010 Number 1 California Gurls and rounding off with 2012's Wide Awake. Coincidentally, Michael Jackson's Bad and Katy's Teenage Dream are the only albums in US chart history to each score five Number 1s on the Billboard Hot 100. And before you know it we're back hopping over the channel to say bonjour to our old ami David Guetta once more. He's back again with yet another hit-packed album. One More Love, an extended version of his breakthrough hit album One Love, features seven top 10s credited to David as an artist, including When Love Takes Over, with Kelly Rowland and Who's That Chick, with Rihanna. 6 Top 10 singles There are a few albums scoring six Top 10s, with deluxe releases or reissues helping albums rack up more hits. One album that saw six songs hit the top flight from one release was Take That's Everything Changes, from 1993. Four of those six Top 10s were Number 1s btw: Pray, Relight My Fire, Babe and the title track. And as if all that success wasn't enough, Take That actually hold the record for the group with the most Top 10s off one album. Yep, not even the Beatles can match that one (for a variety of reasons, of course). The next album to achieve this feat was George Michael's Older, his third studio album released in 1996. Featuring two Number 1s Jesus To A Child and Fast Love, the album also spawned another four singles that hit the Top 3: Spinning The Wheel, double a-side Older/I Can't Make You Love Me, Star People '97 and You Have Been Loved. Jessie J also scored six Top 10s off her debut Who You Are: Do It Like a Dude (2), Price Tag (1), Who You Are (8), Nobody’s Perfect (9), Domino (1), Laserlight (5). If you include the 2010 reissue The Fame Monster, which was sold as part of the original album in the UK, Lady Gaga has a half-dozen of absolute bangers thanks to her debut album The Fame. Six Top 10s, of which four went Number 1 and two of those, Poker Face and Bad Romance, are million-sellers – that's quite an achievement. Emeli Sandé's Our Version Of Events, which was the top-selling album of 2012, also has six Top 10s to call its own. Heaven (2), Next To Me (2), Read All About It Pt 3 (3), Clown (4) and – from the subsequent reissue – Beneath Your Beautiful, with Labrinth (1) and Wonder, with Naughty Boy (10). Finally, Sam Smith's our most recent act to notch up six Top 10s from an album, also from his debut. In The Lonely Hour, which was the only album to sell over a million on both sides of the Atlantic in 2014, has spawned La La La, with Naughty Boy (1), Money On My Mind (1), Stay With Me (1), I'm Not The Only One (3), Like I Can (9) and Lay Me Down ft. John Legend (1), which was added to the reissue. http://www.officialcharts.com/chart-news/the-albums-that-spawned-the-most-top-10-singles__15388/

  17. ED SHEERAN OBLITERATES SPOTIFY RECORDS WITH 68.7M STREAMS IN A DAY Spotify has confirmed that the record’s tracks drew 56.73m streams worldwide yesterday (March 3) – a new record for first-day plays of an LP on the platform. Sheeran didn’t just beat the previous record, he demolished it. Before Divide came along, the record was held by The Weeknd’s Starboy, with 29m streams in November 2016. And that’s not all. In total, Sheeran tracks were played 68.7m times by fans on Spotify yesterday – destroying the previous record, set once again by The Weeknd with 40.3m streams in November 2016. Meanwhile, Sheeran also just broke his own record for plays of a single track on Spotify in 24 hours. Shape of You was streamed 10.12m times yesterday on the platform. Its previous record-setting high came on January 6, when it clocked up 7.94m Spotify streams. http://www.musicbusinessworldwide.com/ed-sheeran-obliterates-spotify-record-with-68-7m-streams-in-a-day/
