  7. Mandisa, the Grammy Award-winning singer who got her break as a contestant on season 5 of American Idol, died on Thursday, April 18 at the age of 47. "We can confirm that yesterday Mandisa was found in her home deceased," a rep for the singer tells PEOPLE in a statement. "At this time we do not know the cause of death or any further details. We ask for your prayers for her family and close knit circle of friends during this incredibly difficult time." A soulful singer with a magnetic personality, she'd go on to gain national attention on the reality competition show's fifth season (which began airing in 2006), making it to the top 10 alongside favorites like Katharine McPhee, Kellie Pickler, Chris Daughtry, Paris Bennett, Elliott Yamin and eventual winner Taylor Hicks. She went on release her debut album, True Beauty, in 2007. The LP debuted at No. 1 on the Top Christian Albums charts — a historic feat that made Mandisa the first new female artist ever to debut on the top of the chart's 27-year history. True Beauty was the first six albums Mandisa would release throughout her career, including an acclaimed 2008 holiday record, It's Christmas, and her most recent offering, 2017's Out of the Dark. Four of those albums — True Beauty, Freedom (2009), What If We Were Real (2011) and Overcomer (2013) — all earned Mandisa Grammy nominations, the first two for best pop/contemporary gospel album and the last two for best contemporary Christian music album. She'd take the trophy in 2014, the same year she was also nominated for best gospel/contemporary Christian music performance for her song, "Overcomer." Her 2022 memoir Out of the Dark: My Journey Through the Shadows to Find God's Joy, chronicled her experience with depression and anxiety following the loss of a close friend to cancer, which she called her "deep dark" period. Seeking comfort in food, she isolated herself as her health spiraled. As her lowest point, she even considered suicide. "I was so miserable; I felt so hopeless," said Mandisa. "I am a woman of faith, and I believe that heaven is real, and when I do leave here, I'm going to be in heaven with Jesus. One of the things I started hearing during that dark period was: 'You're in so much pain. If you take your life, you could be in heaven right now with Jesus.'" 8. Jennifer Lopez allegedly wanted to create the illusion that she and her former co-star Ryan Guzman were more than friends to promote their 2015 film, 'The Boy Next Door,' his ex claims. In the thriller romance, Guzman played Lopez's much-younger love interest. "She made my ex, oh my God, pretend that he was single to promote the movie. The publicists, both of them, called me … so they were at afterparties together, like, holding hands and stuff to promote this. It was just, like, that sucks." The ex recalled when Lopez even pretended she didn't know whether Guzman had a girlfriend in real life when asked about it on 'The Ellen DeGeneres Show.' Noting that Lopez should have confirmed Guzman was actually a taken man. "We've met. We friggin' met. What do you mean you don't know if he had a girlfriend? We met. You squeezed the **** out of my hand. I'm still black and blue." The ex was disappointed when Guzman first introduced her to Lopez at an awards show because it seemed Lopez had been trying to intimidate her. "I always felt she was someone to aspire towards. She was someone who anything she wanted to accomplish she did. She met me, and she looked me up and down, and she gave me the hardest, firmest handshake in the world. I was like, 'Ow! I'll have my hand back, Jesus.' That's sad because you're someone I love, like, it shouldn't be like that." Despite Lopez leaving a bad taste in her mouth, the ex agreed to play along with Lopez's alleged PR relationship with her then-boyfriend — until he started coming home late. "I was OK with that until it wasn't OK … until, you know, coming home at 2 in the morning, I don't know. I wouldn't do that. I also feel like, where's your faith in the movie? You know what I mean? Why do you have to act like you're with everyone that you're in a movie with. … I don't get it."

  12. Ahead of the issue dropping next week, when the full interview will also land on musicweek.com, we're sharing some highlights from an extra special cover story. Dua Lipa on making Radical Optimism "It was about being able to dictate. Before, I wasn't as confident in my craft. I definitely feel so much better about who I am as an artist and a songwriter, what I want to do and say and how I want to say it." Dua Lipa on taking control "I think I trusted that other people knew better than me, and in some ways they did because they were more experienced. But I've just been learning to follow my gut and do the learning myself, rather than rely on other people's knowledge." Dua Lipa on Radical22 "It's about having control over my music, having the final say over what happens to it. As an artist, it's important to understand that this is a business." Dua Lipa on Glastonbury "Glastonbury has always been the pinnacle. It's my favorite festival. I'm so grateful for the trust that Emily [Eavis] has put in me and I'll make sure it's great. It's the biggest show of my life, so I'm gonna make sure I don't **** it up!" Dua Lipa on Joe Kentish "I wouldn't have been able to do this without him. I love it when he comes into the studio – he's someone who I really want to impress, so every time I play Joe music, I hear things differently and realise what needs to change without him even saying anything." Dua Lipa on being a 'pop star' "People want you to speak out about things that you believe in, create a safe space for fans, or talk about current issues or activism. But at the same time, a lot of people want you to not do that and they want their pop stars to just be very quiet, like, 'Just sing your song and don't get involved in politics.'" Dua Lipa on the music business "I think that people mistake artists as being away with the fairies, because we are preoccupied with the creative side and that's the only thing we really want to be doing. People take advantage of that a lot. People are proper charlatans and they'll try it!" Direct link: https://www.musicweek.com/media/read/dua-lipa-covers-the-may-issue-of-music-week/089626
