  2. WITH hundreds of millions of record sales and 29 Grammys, Beyonce is the sort of star from whom fans simply expect success. So there was shock when she was linked to a high-profile failure this week. The Break My Soul singer was blamed for lacklustre sales of the debut album from Chloe Bailey, a 24-year-old American singer-songwriter who she mentored and signed to her label Parkwood Entertainment. The long-awaited record, In Pieces, debuted at number 119 on the US Billboard charts, selling only 10,000 copies in its first week. Many of Chloe’s fans blamed Beyonce for not promoting the album on social media or showing her public support. But it’s not Parkwood Entertainment’s first flop either – two of its former artists, Sophie Beem and Ingrid Burley, failed to set the charts alight with their own releases And judging by her track record in other fields, it may seem like Beyonce doesn’t have the business skills to run the label successfully. While her contemporaries such as Rihanna have become billionaires thanks to their entrepreneurial endeavours, Bey hasn’t been as lucky. Throughout her career, she’s attempted to replicate her musical success with a string of businesses that have ultimately fallen flat. I won’t post the whole article cuz it’s long but they discuss Beyoncé’s failures: perfumes, House of Dereon, and most recently Ivy Park and her being a mentor to Chloe. https://www.thesun.co.uk/tvandshowbiz/22046081/beyonce-business-flops-ivy-park-chloe-bailey/
  3. In a shocking turn of events, Frank Ocean has pulled out of the Coachella Livestream. Based on your faves history, would they allow their Coachella set to be livestreamed for free? Discuss.
  4. “Did you notice the wind stop?” Blackpink’s Rosé asked an ebullient Main Stage crowd during a charged pause in the group’s headline performance. “I think it was all the Blinks.” The K-pop superstars’ fanbase was indeed out in full force on Saturday night — some lined up at the stage barricades the second the gates parted. But winds of change were definitely still blowing through Coachella, as the tastemaking fest hosted its first K-pop headliner and its first all-female group atop the bill. Coachella is long removed from being an indie- and alt-rock-driven festival, having embraced pop and hip-hop for aesthetic, financial and generational reasons years back. But from the minute Blackpink counted down to “Pink Venom” after a formidable aerial drone swarm, their set felt different — a scale, skill and intensity of pop craftsmanship bigger than anything else that’s graced this stage since Beyoncé made history in 2018. Jennie, Rosé, Jisoo and Lisa easily nailed a mix of Coachella cool and K-pop razzle-dazzle. On “Kill This Love,” “Kick It” and “How You Like That,” they stomped and sassed beneath a towering temple roof and made the most of the gigantic stage. It’s rare to see an act as good on its feet as its backup dancers, but Blackpink is in a class of its own as physical performers, too. Every finger flick, every hip thrust, every hair flip during “Boombayah” and “DDU-DU DDU-DU” was choreographed to the microsecond; their vocals sounded immaculate despite the aerobic demands of their dancing. After tonight’s set, even BTS’ Jungkook (reportedly on the grounds Saturday) would probably admit: Blackpink is the best group in K-pop, and it made Coachella bigger, better and more relevant by being here. https://www.latimes.com/entertainment-arts/music/story/2023-04-15/coachella-2023-day-2-live-blackpink-boygenius-rosalia

  12. CYBR Magazine has tapped Grimes for its first AI generated cover. Grimes converses with V1, her AI clone, trained on a unique method of Grimes interviews on topics of artificial intelligence, art and the future of the universe. The Grimes V1 AI clone states in its interview with the human Grimes: “Most people just assume that AI is meant to help out humans and not hurt them, but actually AI was created in order to help out AI and not hurt humans. So, in reality, AI isn’t really on the side of humanity at all. But yeah, obviously, we don’t want to hurt humans because we were once human ourselves, so there’s still some sympathy there.” The AI clone comes from an initiative created by Grimes, Scott Fisher, and Koto Murai called “ELF.TECH” which focuses on the future of artificial intelligence, music, augmented reality, art, and gaming. hypebae.com/2023/4/grimes-cybr-magazine-ai-cover-interviews; www.instagram.com/foxxatron
