Hi Will probably do top 10 albums ranked and top ~20 songs unranked this year
  2. This year has been incredibly tough, if not just straight-up awful in my opinion, only rivaling 2020 in levels of how terrible things were. Lots of horrible news constantly, having to go through some genuinely upsetting stuff, it's something I'm eager to leave behind for good, but honestly? Looking at the state of things, I still have a lingering feeling that it might just get worse. But we have to keep it pushing no matter what, right? Music has always been good as a coping mechanism for me personally, and this year it has been no exception. Either as a method of "escapism", or as a way to mirror the sentiments of anger or sadness you might be going through, it is something that's always reliable. I feel like, aside from being a ranking of What I Believe Is Best (whatever that might be), I feel like all these records, songs, videos, etc. are here because they meant something among this uncertainty. Also it's always fun (albeit time-consuming) to do these year-end round-ups and I really need them this time around, so let's get to it!
  3. hi everyone! 2023 was quite the year for all of us, especially in the music department! while beyoncé, taylor, and sza maintained their grip on the mainstream coming into this year. nonetheless, we’ve gotten a lot of surprise hits, amazing albums, and some missteps. as the little poster up there suggests, i will be sharing my ten favorite EPs/mini albums, forty (40!) favorite singles, and twenty-five favorite albums of the year. will your faves make an appearance? stick around to find out EPS / MIXTAPES OF THE YEAR SONGS OF THE YEAR ALBUMS OF THE YEAR
  4. Top 100 singles of 2023, 10 sets with 10 songs each. Expect a lot more pop, less alternative/indie tracks. The pop girlies really did so much better this year.
  5. Hello again. I'm heavily pregnant, employed, feeling tired and angry (but somebody should be, ha!), and haven't found a group of albums, films, or tv shows I truly connected with this year So, I'll just be sharing a Best (and maybe Worst nnnn) Members countdown for the mess. I'm kinda known for being a graphics queen but with so little time on my hands I've elected to use AI to generate my own gag city type visuelles Remember to mention me in your lists so I can downvote accordingly. Below you'll find a fun throwback to my previous Top 50 members in my 2021 best of! Talk and fight amongst yourselves in the meantime on who you'll think will top my list and receive the following honors: Greatest Gainer, Hot Shot Debut, and Free Faller. https://atrl.net/forums/topic/384609-reversews-guide-to-taste-21-awards-recap/page/12/#comment-20936212 See you soon.
  6. Almost the end of 2023 is here and in this 2023 Best Of list, i'm going to do Best Albums/EP & Singles and also Worst Albums/EPs & Singles that has been released from December 1st 2022 - November 30th 2023 And each lists, artists only have 2 entries as the lead Well, since my Albums' list hasn't finished yet and originally i'm going to 100 of Best Singles list, first i'm going to reveal the Singles first with extra 30 songs to spare the time. So it's going to be 130 Best Singles of 2023 Let's get it started, shall we?
  7. Hi, i will be doing Top 50 songs of 2023
  8. Welcome to my Best Of list for 2022 and 2023! To be honest, the past couple of years have been somewhat underwhelming for me in terms of new releases. I've spent a lot of time discovering older works and living with those instead. So, I have combined the last two years together in this list to reflect my favourite things I've found in a more concise list. Here are my top songs, updated (almost) daily.
  9. Hello everyone! This is my second year doing 'Best Of', so I'm excited. If you haven't seen my 'Best Of' from last year, I'll give you a short description of what I'm listening to. I listen to literally everything, different genres, from different countries, but it may happen that for half of the year I can only listen to one specific genre or artist. This year I wasn't into new albums, but yes, I was more into new/old songs, so that's why I decided to add new categories Categories: Top Singles (2022/2023) Top Albums (2022/2023) Resting Comfortably (Songs that I discovered this year | 1950-2021) Obsession (Old songs that I did listen to before but got obsessed with them this year | 1950 - 2021) Honorable Mentions (Old albums that were part of my life this year) You can check my 'Best Of 2022' 2022
  10. Music in 2023 was personal, unfiltered, raw! Welcome to my 7th 'Best Of' list! I'll be covering the Top 28 Albums & EP's & Top 200 Songs I've enjoyed this year! Coming soon! Please stick around and i'll be sure to check out your lists as well!

    Charlie's Best of 2023

Hello, everyone Welcome to my 15th YECD. I am 30 years, so I have been posting YECDs for 50% of my life at this point. This is the only time of the year I'm active here and my presence around shall be as brief as always, if not briefer. This intro section has always felt like a short journal of my year to me. In that sense, I would like to say that it's been my best year personally and academically speaking. I'm just a few days away from finally graduating from translation and interpreting, and this year I became a dad, which I love so much. Musically, it's been at cruise speed since I have only stayed up-to-date thanks to listening to weekly playlists rather than taking the time to check out new albums. I do remember listening to more EPs, though, and I kind of got the impression that artists I liked were releasing more EPs than LPs. That being said, I don't feel fully qualified to say whether it's been a great or poor year of music, but from what I could listen to, it's been thoroughly enjoyable. Main genres featured this year include indie pop, bedroom pop, dreampop, shoegaze and Spanish indie pop. This year will feature the following countdowns: Top 100 Spanish songs of 2023 Top 100 songs of 2023 (+900 close calls) Top EPs and top albums of 2023 shall be presented in 2024. If time allows, I shall check out some of your countdowns to see the immense amount of music I have inevitably missed out. See you around!
  12. Last year I complained about 2022 being a bad year for music and humanity. The latter hasn't changed for 2023 but I think I've gotten out of whatever musical slump I was in last year and I've managed to find plenty of good new music this time around. 2023 was also a year of like, realizing things, and I've just realized that I'm not an album listener. I rather collect a few songs to my collection and leave the duds alone. Thus I am making the very brave choice of only ranking my top songs and not ranking any albums! This year, instead of ranking measly 20 songs, I'm going to be ranking 100 songs. I might also dabble into ranking some movies I've watched this year (from any year of release) and shouting out some of the best YouTube channels/videos of 2023 as well. We'll see how much energy I have left after posting all the 100 songs I have lined up lmao. General overview of music in 2023: Disco and (emo) pop-rock seems to be going out of style (GOOD!), while DnB seems to be a trending genre that is being infused in other genres, which I welcome to some degree, knowing full well it's going to get old real fast. I'm not looking forward to the (depressive) singer-songwriter trend (a la Lana, Billie and Taylor) becoming even more pervasive. I don't need that, thank you. What is also concerning is that the music industry and fans have fully accepted and endorsed 2 minute songs. And even this list is full of them. I don't like it, but at this point I guess there's nothing we can do about it now. I wish I had more time and energy to check out Japanese releases this year, but nothing major has happened in the Japanese musical landscape. From my brief excursion, there are a lot of artists with great production and decent vocals, but it's somewhat predictable and boring all around. Still, a lot of great songs made it into my list, and I'm eager to see what next year has to bring. K-pop on the other hand is just disappointment after disappointment. Where is the class, the talent, the elegance? Even the good cute concepts are kind of missing. I think I've just grown out of k-pop and I should be looking at k-indie, soloists and not idol group music. Perhaps that'll be my goal for 2024. Finnish music on the other hand is thriving for me, and I'd say almost 1/4 of the list is just Finnish girlies dominating, and I couldn't be happier. General rules for the list 1 song per artist, otherwise it'd be too long and boring of a list and some artists just would just dominate. I'm not sure why I omitted Finnish artists last year but this year I'm debuting some Finnish music to the list as well. The cut off point for entries in 31.12.2022. I AM NOT DOING GRAPHICS, I HAVE AN ART BLOCK OKAY.

    JGib's Best of 2023

JGib's Best of 2023 | Starts 12.10.2023: Music list cutoff eligibility date for Top 360 of 2023: 12.06.2023. Welcome to the 2023 edition of the JGib's Best of lists here on ATRL. Updates will also be posted to Threads and my personal FB page. X will get select updates. Musically, this has been a big year for Dua Lipa, Olivia Rodrigo, Luke Combs, Shinedown, Fall Out Boy, Bailey Zimmerman, Foo Fighters, Taylor Swift, Paramore, and Blink-182. Staind came back after a long hiatus. This year saw the reuniting of S Club 7, and a couple of months after the official announcement, Paul Cattermole passed away. In October, their Good Times Tour came to various cities across the UK and Ireland that later expanded to the US and Canada (of which that leg got pushed back to February of 2024).. As a result of Cattermole's death, S Club 7 reverted back to their S Club name from the Seeing Double era when he departed the band in 2002. Hannah Spearritt, who was twice girlfriend to Cattermole, stepped down from the tour (but is potentially open to rejoining), thus leaving S Club with 5 members. In July of this year, they released their comeback single These Are The Days, and there are hopes that they will release more new songs and/or a proper album next year. Also, there are ongoing efforts to bring the B-side songs of S Club's discography such as Stand By You, So Right, and Our Time Has Come to streaming services, and just before Cattermole's death, Seeing Double and their songs became streamable worldwide. RIP Paul Cattermole. 2023 brought the end of MTV News in the USA. Over its 36 years in existence, MTV News birthed legends in Kurt Loder, SuChin Pak, John Norris, Tabitha Soren, Gideon Yago, Serena Altschul, and more. The consequences of the appalling Dobbs ruling continue to be felt, as many red states continued passing abortion bans with limited exceptions. Ohio was the site of 2 referendums that dealt with abortion one way or another: The August referendum was to increase the passage threshold to 60%, and that was thankfully shot down by the voters. In the November referendum, Ohio voted to enact abortion protections in the constitution. On October 7th, Israel and Palestine were in the news again worldwide, as Hamas initiated the attack that caused Israel to attack, thus causing a full-scale conflict between the two sides in which both sides committed war crimes. The Israel Apartheid State's continued repression of Palestinians in occupied West Bank and Gaza was a key factor as to why Hamas launched their October 7th attack against Israel. The war has caused humanitarian strife in occupied Gaza, sparking fears of a 2nd Nakba, as Israel seeks to eliminate Gaza entirely. It is time for a permanent ceasefire to be enacted in the Gaza conflict. Donald Trump has faced 4 indictments and 91+ counts so far: New York City (Stormy Daniels hush money payments), D.C. (January 6th Insurrection and efforts to overturn the 2020 elections), Florida (classified documents theft), and Georgia (efforts to overturn the 2020 elections). There is a high likelihood that Trump will be on trial during parts of the 2024 Presidential campaign season for at least one or two of the indictments, and could potentially be in jail. He also faces indictments over Trump Organization in New York. This year continues the full-fledged assault on LGBTQ+ rights in the USA, as several red states enacted bans on gender-affirming care for trans youths (and in certain cases, trans adults) on the false basis that gender-affirming care is equivalent to "child abuse" and "genital mutilation" (which it isn't equivalent to such), forced outing laws, Don't Say Gay or Trans laws in schools, drag show bans, and trans sports bans that aren't really about "fairness in women's sports". Brands like Disney, Target, and Bud Light were subject to intense backlash campaigns by right-wing anti-LGBTQ+ extremists over their LGBTQ+ inclusion policies. Bud Light, in particular, got the brunt of the backlash over putting trans influencer Dylan Mulvaney on a beer can that wasn't intended to be sold. The company faced angry boycotts from the right over putting Mulvaney in the ad at all, while the left and LGBTQ+ allies were infuriated at the company's decision to not stand by Mulvaney after backlash hit. The US Supreme Court (SCOTUS) continues to be an instrument for radical right-wing rule, as they ruled to ban affirmative action in colleges (Students For Fair Admissions v. Harvard and Students For Fair Admissions v. UNC), granted expanded free speech protections for anti-LGBTQ+ extremists on a case that was built on lies (303 Creative v. Elenis), limited the scope of wetlands protection (Sackett v. EPA) and prohibited President Biden's student loans program from taking effect (Biden v. Nebraska). It had a few gems of good, however, as it rejected the insane "Independent State Legislature Theory" in Moore v. Harper, rejected Texas and Louisiana's standing to challenge President Biden's immigration laws in United States v. Texas, and forced Alabama to draw a 2nd VRA-compliant district in Alabama in Merrill v. Milligan. The right-wing book-banning crusade has hit libraries and schools hard, and books banned disproportionately have pro-LGBTQ and pro-racial justice themes, as do books centering on a POC perspective. The 2024 elections are coming thick and fast, as incumbent President Joe Biden (D) and former "President" Donald Trump (R) are likely to be the nominees again. This year has been the year of Taylor Swift, as she is currently dating Chiefs TE Travis Kelce, and was named Time Person Of The Year. Elon Musk's destruction of X (formerly Twitter) continues, as it has spawned Twitter-like alternatives in Mastodon, Bluesky, and Threads. The Russian invasion of Ukraine continues to march one, as Ukraine has mostly held serve and even gained back a few previously Russian areas. COVID and its variants still exist, but news and awareness of COVID fell sharply compared to 2020-2022. On the sports side, Arsenal tragically blew an 8-point lead in the Premier League title race and lost to Manchester City by 5 points, as City won their 3rd straight Premier League time on their way to a treble (PL, UCL, and FA Cup). The injuries to William Saliba and Takehiro Tomiyasu in the same game (an UEL match against Sporting CP in which they lost on penalty kicks and got bounced out in) proved costly, as did that three-game stretch of draws against Liverpool, West Ham, and Southampton, in which they led 2-0 in two of the three games in that stretch (LIV and WHU) and drew 2-2. Currently, there is a 4-way title race in the Premier League, as Liverpool, Arsenal, Aston Villa, and Manchester City are all vying for the title. Manchester City beat their crosstown derby rival Manchester United 2-1 in the FA Cup as part of their treble. Manchester City could be facing massive discipline, and so does Chelsea, in which automatic relegation and/or title forfeitures could be a real possibility. Everton currently faces a 10-point deduction that is subject to appeal. The UEFA Champions League winners were Manchester City, as they beat Inter Milan 1-0. The UEFA Europa League was won by Sevilla 1-1 [4-1] on penalties over Roma to gain them a spot in this year's UCL (thus giving Spain a 5th spot in the competition, since Sevilla finished outside of Top 7). West Ham beat Fiorentina 2-1 to win the UEFA Europa Conference League to give them a spot in this year's UEL (thus giving England a 3rd spot in the competition, since West Ham finished outside of Top 7) In the NHL, the Vegas Golden Knights won their first ever Stanley Cup in 5 games over the Florida Panthers. The Texas Rangers won their first World Series over the Arizona Diamondbacks 4 games to 1 in the MLB. The Kansas City Chiefs beat the Philadelphia Eagles 38-35 to win the Super Bowl in the NFL. In the NBA, The Denver Nuggets won their first ever NBA Finals trophy, as they won the series 4-1 over Miami Heat. The Columbus Crew won the 2023 MLS Cup over LAFC for their 3rd MLS Cup trophy. St. Louis City SC's debut season ended with a #1 seed, but lost to Sporting Kansas 2-0 in the MLS Cup playoffs. In the 2023 CFB Playoff Final, UGA trounced TCU 65-7 to win their 2nd CFP-era natty in a row. In the 2023 Men's NCAA Basketball tournament, UConn won their 5th trophy, as they beat SDSU 76-59. In the Women's version, LSU won their first ever trophy, as they beat the Caitlin Clark-led Iowa Buckeyes 102-85. 16. Another year, another Best Of! 2023 had a lot of good music I enjoyed so it was incredibly difficult to narrow it down this year, but I managed somehow. By the way, this year's theme is circles if you haven't guessed already. 17. Hello and welcome to The Best of 2023 Tour! I'll be your headliner, gagacasanova! This will be easier to get into than The Eras Tour as you will not need a ticket, HOORAY! Now before the show begins, I would like to use this introduction as to how this show will go... ACT 1: The Top Throwback Songs Era - A setlist of 40 songs dedicated to songs of eras past. ACT 2: The Top Throwback Albums Era - A set dedicated to a personal favorite of ten albums of eras past. ACT 3: The Top 40 Songs Era - A setlist dedicated to the 40 best songs of 2023. There may be a SURPRISE in the mix 👀 INTERLUDE: The Top Albums Era - Not an important part of the show, but she still made it in here. ACT 4/THE ENCORE: The Top Artists Era - A set dedicated to the personal favorite acts of the year. Each "era" will be revealed in sets of 10 (5 for The Top Artists Era & The Top Throwback Albums Era). We don't want this to end too fast, do we? Like The Eras Tour, there will also be surprise songs (songs that are not apart of the regular show, but still get some recognition). And also like The Eras Tour I will keep you on your feet for the entirety of the show. Your feet will hate you by the end of the night. In typical Taylor Swift fashion, I will be leaving Easter eggs prior to each update to keep you guessing, some will be easy, some vague and some not too easy (or so I think)... Baby Let the Games Begin!
