I made this thread mainly thinking on blackface. Which is a social taboo exclusively to the US/the anglosphere. In most part of europe and asia, blackface is not a thing and painting oneself black is not considered offensive or racist. I am spaniard and grew up watching tv shows in which white people painted themselves black and was completely normal. It wasn’t until I was exposed to American culture that I learned about blackface and how problematic it is. And now I’m completely opposed to blackface. But should we really criticize and shame non-americans who do this considering it’s not offensive or problematic on their culture?America is not the center of the world, so why should non-americans learn and respect american social issues? An example of this could be Sharonne, the winner of Rupaul Drag Race Spain. She was heavily critizised by american audiences for doing blackface in a spanish tv show in which the contestants have to imitate a random singer and she got a black artist. Was the criticism justified?

I've noticed that people are quite openly classist and even proudly so, and they face very little backlash. Obviously racism, sexism, homophobia, ableism etc are all still alive and well but I feel like they are more taboo and people have to be more covert about it. For example you can't be openly racist in a place of work or you'll probably face some kind of consequences. But if you were to make a joke about working class people or poorer people, lots of people wouldn't bat an eyelid.

On the other hand, pro-monarchists argue they provide many British people with pride and bring a sense of patriotism to many. They do a lot of advocacy for global health and charitable causes and it is said they bring in tourism dollars for the British economy. In other territories in the commonwealth, it is argued they provide a stable head of state that isn't politicised and that this can help ensure a more stable form of government in the form of a constitutional monarchy.
