  1. Our father of modern day progressivism, whom I've never slandered, shared that he will be endorsing President Joe Biden in his 2024 re-election bid. https://apnews.com/article/bernie-sanders-biden-endorsement-2024-d8f0772b117e2bf83e1062708ea651c0 Love this man!
  2. New YorkCNN — Vice Media will cancel its acclaimed program “Vice News Tonight” as part of a broad restructuring that will result in painful cuts across the organization, the company said Thursday. “In response to the current market conditions and business realities facing [Vice Media Group] and the broader news and media industry, we are moving forward on some painful but necessary reductions, primarily across our News business,” co-chief executives Bruce Dixon and Hozefa Lokhandwala announced in a memo to employees. Dixon and Lokhandwala, who stressed that news is “core” to the larger company and that it will not “exit” the business, added, “We are transforming Vice News to better withstand market realities and more closely align with how and where we see our audiences engaging with our content most.” The cuts will result in dozens of employees losing their jobs, people familiar with the matter told CNN, with the company’s Washington, D.C., bureau being hit particularly hard. The exact number of jobs lost by the changes, however, was not clear. The restructuring will have major implications on news teams at Vice Media. The company will sunset the Vice World News brand and fold its operations under the Vice News umbrella, giving the company a singular news brand. It will also slash its dedicated audio unit, as well as the Vice World News short form video team. https://edition.cnn.com/2023/04/27/media/vice-news-tonight-canceled/index.html

  5. Egyptian lawyer Mahmoud al-Semary has sued Netflix for depicting Cleopatra as a Black woman in a new documentary. al-Semary filed a case with the Public Prosecutor to shut down the streaming service in Egypt, following the release of the trailer for Queen Cleopatra – you can watch it below. As reported by Egypt Independent, the lawyer has demanded that serious legal action be taken against those responsible for the making of the documentary. The case claims that the documentary contradicts and distorts Egyptian history in favour of promoting Afrocentrism. al-Semary described the new depiction of the historic figure as a “crime”, and blamed Netflix’s management team for its participation in the project. He also demanded a thorough investigation of the process, as well as an outright shutdown of Netflix in Egypt. The case submitted against Netflix stated: “Most of what Netflix platform displays do not conform to Islamic and societal values and principles, especially Egyptian ones.” It added: “In order to preserve the Egyptian national and cultural identity among Egyptians all over the world there must be pride in the makings of such work.” The complaint has also accused the makers of the documentary and platform management of “forgery”. Former Egyptian Antiquities Minister Zahi Hawass said that documentary was “falsifying facts”, adding that “This is completely fake. Cleopatra was Greek, meaning that she was blonde, not Black.” Queen Cleopatra, the last ruler of the Ptolemaic dynasty, was born in 69 BC and died in 30 BC in Alexandria. https://www.nme.com/news/film/egyptian-lawyer-sues-netflix-for-depicting-cleopatra-as-black-in-new-documentary-3432799

  7. Earlier this year, animal activists broke into abattoirs to film pigs being stunned using carbon dioxide gas — a process that is legal and widespread. In March, 7.30 aired some of the never-before-seen footage, sparking calls for an urgent investigation and greater scrutiny of the pork industry. When lawyers for Animals Australia later reviewed the hours of footage the activists had captured, they discovered multiple examples of what they allege is animal cruelty at Melbourne abattoir Australian Food Group (AFG). Legal counsel Shatha Hamade said she believed it was not just the gas that caused suffering. "We were actually quite shocked and disturbed by the footage because what we realised was that the entire process of pig gassing, the entire operation is in and of itself cruel," she said. The footage captured at the Australian Food Group abattoir in Laverton, in Melbourne's south-west, shows pigs being repeatedly struck with paddles, prodded and kicked as they are loaded into steel cages called "gondolas". On several occasions, pigs' legs or feet appear to be stuck in the machinery and in one scene, an animal's testicles are torn off as the gondola descends towards the gas. "What is so horrific about this is not just the fact his [testicles have] been ripped off but that it is just before going down into the dip, into the gas chamber to be gassed," Ms Hamade said. In Victoria, animals used in farming and meat production are exempt from the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act as long as their use complies with relevant codes and standards. Ms Hamade alleges that the footage shows the abattoir has breached the Australian standard for the hygienic production and transportation of meat products and should therefore be investigated for any potential contraventions of animal cruelty laws.
  8. Twink blood obsessive, attempted New Zealand apocalypse shelter owner, and botched filler addict Peter Thiel, the well known and well-established gay conservative tech billionaire and Republican megadonor, took a break from fighting against calls for another investigation into the alleged "suicide" of his lover (just weeks after "accidentally" inviting both he and his husband to his New Year's Eve party which lead to an epic blow-out fight) to leak to sources that he has apparently ignored the modus operandi of the GOP since the Southern Strategy to include culture wars as a key tenet of their platform and will be sitting OUT the 2024 election, thank you very much. Citing abortion and restrictions on which bathrooms transgender students can use in schools among several other examples, Thiel recently indicated through two associates his displeasure with the Republican Party’s focus on hot-button U.S. cultural issues, concluding in late 2022 that donations to any candidate this coming cycle were out of the question. Last year Thiel pumped tens of millions into the campaigns of J.D. Vance, Blake Masters, and several others that apparently never engaged in those same culture wars Thiel suddenly abhors.
  9. Spotify monthly active users grew by 26 million during the first quarter this year to bring the total number of active users on the world’s most popular audio streaming platform to more than half a billion, the company reported on Tuesday. ...the 22% year-over-year uptick in monthly active users, bringing that figure to 515 million, beat Spotify’s earlier guidance and was helped by higher renewals than the company predicted. Premium subscribers rose by 15% to 210 million, compared to 182 million a year ago (and 205 million last quarter), and ad-supported users rose 26% to 317 million from 252 million a year ago (and 295 million last quarter). 10. EDIT: since liberals are taking issue with whom the tweet is from rather than the content being discussed: I mean, every single debate last time was a disaster for Biden, so it’s not hard to see why.
