  1. Twitter has pulled out of the European Union's voluntary code of practice regarding online disinformation as the company's owner continues posting content that could be flagged under a forthcoming EU law. The social media site's withdrawal from the EU's agreement on disinformation could signal owner Elon Musk is preparing to cease operations in Europe entirely, Euractiv reported, as a new law — the Digital Services Act (DSA)— is set to take effect in August. The law, which establishes requirements for monitoring and flagging disinformation, would make the now voluntary agreement mandatory for large social media sites. https://www.businessinsider.com/elon-musk-pull-twitter-european-commission-digital-services-act-2023-5?r=US&IR=T

  9. Latin America's biggest country has started to take action. Brazil will reduce bureaucracy and simplify entry processes in the national territory to welcome LGBT+ refugees from other countries where the community is persecuted or criminalized. The measure was announced on Thursday, 18, by the national secretary for the Rights of LGBTQIA+ People, Symmy Larrat, one day after the date that internationally commemorates the fight against violence directed at this population. “This attitude in Brazil of facilitating the entry of LGBTQIA+ people is important because, first of all, we recognize that we must respect and guarantee the lives of these people. Second, that Brazil promotes welcoming. Third, we signal to the world that LGBTQIA+ people really matter in this country and that we are going to promote the necessary actions to guarantee the rights and protect the lives of these people”, said Symmy. The measure is unprecedented on the international scene and places Brazil at the forefront of welcoming LGBT+ refugees. Today, around 70 countries criminalize the LGBT+ community, with penalties ranging from imprisonment to the death penalty. In recent months, the amount of anti-LGBT+ laws has increased in countries like Iran, which has promoted the persecution of this population; Uganda, through the recently approved death penalty for homosexuals; and the United States, where there is a coordinated movement among republican politicians for the prohibition of transsexual access to health and drag queens to perform in public spaces. https://www.estadao.com.br/brasil/brasil-oferece-acolhimento-a-refugiados-lgbt-de-paises-onde-a-comunidade-e-perseguida-nprm/

The building he found dead in is where his newlywed husband Xia lives, two of them got married two hours before he died with the witnesses of random passer-by. Criminal investigation reported a lot of interesting fact. Lai recently inherited a large inheritance, sum of $16m from his biological father (lawfully grandfather). Xia is his inheritance manager, two of them first met on his father's funeral, and only met twice before getting married, his mother claimed. Lai's father/grandfather had a son, but he had sexual relationship with his daughter-in-law and had another son Lai. Later his wife found out and reported him. After finishing time in jail and his first son died, he adopted Lai as his lawfully grandson. After his death in April this year, Lai became the sole inheritor. Lai's mother accused Xia of murder, and said his son is not gay, claimed he had girlfriend in high school.
