DEADLINE: ‘Emancipation’s Antoine Fuqua To Direct Michael Jackson Biopic For Lionsgate; John Logan Script & ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’s Graham King Producing With Estate Antoine Fuqua is set to direct Michael, a Lionsgate drama with script by telling the complex life story of the iconic singer Michael Jackson. A script is in by John Logan, and the film will be produced by Graham King, who turned the Freddie Mercury Queen story into the blockbuster Best Picture nominated Bohemian Rhapsody. GK Films will produce alongside co-executors of Jackson’s estate, John Branca and John McClain. DEADLINE: Michael Jackson Nephew Jaafar Jackson To Play King Of Pop In Antoine Fuqua-Directed Biopic Michael Jackson will be played by the late icon’s 26-year old nephew Jaafar Jackson in the Antoine Fuqua-directed film biopic for Lionsgate. Fuqua just posted a confirmation on Instagram. The singer and songwriter is the son of Jermaine Jackson, who is the brother of Michael and member of The Jackson 5. Jaafar has been singing and dancing since age 12, and has showcased himself singing tunes from Sam Cooke to Marvin Gaye, along with originals.

Andrew Garfield and Claire Foy will lead the film adaptation of Enid Blyton's children's classic The Magic Faraway Tree. The story from the author, based on her 'The Faraway Tree' series of novels for children, follows Polly and Tim and their children Beth, Joe and Fran – a modern family who find themselves forced to relocate to the remote English countryside. Two-time Academy Award-nominee Andrew Garfield (tick, tick… BOOM!, Hacksaw Ridge) will play Tim and two-time Emmy Award-winner Claire Foy (All of Us Strangers, The Crown) will take on the role of Polly. Screenwriter is Simon Farnaby (Wonka and Paddington 2) and director is Ben Gregor (Britannia, Cuckoo, Black Ops, Fatherhood).

Toho Studios has announced a new live-action Godzilla film titled Godzilla Minus One to be released this year. It will be directed by Takashi Yamazaki. The film will be released on November 3rd (69-year anniversary of the original film) in Japan, and December 1st in the United States. This comes months before Legendary’s Godzilla & King Kong sequel in April 2024. It will be Toho's 33rd Godzilla film. The film will take place in post-war Japan, between 1945 and 1947. "Set in a post-war Japan, Godzilla Minus One will once again show us a Godzilla that is a terrifying and overwhelming force." The film has been met with critical acclaim by critics and audiences alike. It has become the biggest earning live-action Japanese film in US history.

The sequel to last year's ambitious horror trilogy has been announced with Chloe Okuno (VHS 99/The Watcher) directing.
