  2. So now that supply for all consoles is starting to get back to normal for PS5 we can finally see the actual demand it has. For another month, PS5 was the best selling console in the USA both in units and dollars sales. Units sold: #1 PS5 #2 Switch #3 Sales for BOTH Series X and S together Switch was the 2nd best selling one. This is a 6 year old console that's outselling a Microsoft console that came out not even 2 years ago. One of those models (Series S) you can literally find at any store, it's being sold for 300$ and sometimes as little as 270$ and many of those packs include a 3 month Gamepass voucher at no extra charge. That's literally hundreds of games for "free" to play, many of them you need to pay full price with Playstation or Switch. Meaning that even on Xbox's home country and the place it usually can be competitive...both Japanese consoles, while much more expensive are the ones people are buying. Meanwhile PS5 had its price increased in plenty of countries outside America, its games cost 70$ or 80€ EACH...and the hardware is basically twice as expensive as a Series S...the cheapest entry point that MS is offering right now and the PS5 is also outselling it by a large margin. Just this past week in Spain, PS5 sold close to 6k and Series S and X sold a bit over 1k. In Japan, PS5 sold close to 20k this past week and Series S and X around 2k together. What can MS actually do to have a console that's not in last place in sales at this point?

  4. ECO-ZEALOTS who glued themselves to the floor of a Volkswagen dealership moaned they couldn't use the toilet or get food after staff went home. Unimpressed employees at the showroom in Germany locked the doors, switched off the lights and dialed down the heating at the end of the working day. They had stormed the showroom in Wolfsburg in protest of Volkswagen, the second-largest car producer in the world. The eco-idiots then glued their hands to the ground on the Porsche pavilion floor in the company's Autostadt building on Wednesday. But they were left disgruntled when the staff refused to offer them a container to relieve themselves in while letting the temperature drop. One of the activists wrote in a Twitter thread: "@VW told us that they supported our right to protest, but they refused our request to provide us with a bowl to urinate and defecate in a decent manner while we are glued and have turned off the heating." The activists staged the bold sit-in in the hopes of encouraging the government and big firms to decarbonise the German transport sector. https://www.thesun.co.uk/news/20178876/eco-idiots-glue-themselves-vw-deale-moan-toilet-food/
  5. ’24 hours of hell’: Israeli settler gangs terrorize Palestinian town under army protection Huwwara has been under near constant attack since Thursday afternoon, when groups of armed settlers began attacking several points in the town as they were escorted and enabled by the Israeli army, attacking several points in the town, primarily on the main road, vandalizing dozens of storefronts and vehicles. The settlers also burned olive trees, and attacked several homes, a local amusement park, and a cafe on the outskirts of the town. Link to: Heartbreaking videos of a farmer and his family, lamenting the loss of the Olive grove they'd worked to nourish for 10 years, after the soil was poisoned and the trees were burned. Colonisers do not respect the land, nature, nor the people which they occupy, pillage and destroy. They have no right or claim to indigeneity, they are illegal European settlers, doing as European settlers have always done.

  7. Here Are the Worst Cities for Rat Infestations in the U.S. Right Now Number one remains the same for the eighth consecutive year. By Megan Rategger Published on 10/19/2022 at 12:29 PM Say what you will about my beloved New York City, but at least you can't say we have the worst rat problem in the US. Chicago has once again taken that title. The Windy City has topped Orkin's Rattiest City ranking for the eighth consecutive year. We just won't talk about the fact that NYC is number two. To find its data, the pest control company has analyzed the number of rodent treatments performed in both residential and commercial spaces between September 1, 2021 and August 31, 2022. These are the top 25 rattiest cities in the US this year: 1. Chicago, IL 2. New York, NY 3. Los Angeles, CA 4. Washington D.C. 5. San Francisco, CA 6. Philadelphia, PA 7. Baltimore, MD 8. 8. Researchers at Stanford University have transplanted human neurons into rat brains, seen them mature into hybridized brain circuits and then used them to influence the rodents’ behavior. The work marks an impressive step forward for neuroscience, and could see rat brains serve as living laboratories for the study of cognitive disorders. “The researchers show that the human neurons, when activated, interfere with the rats’ behavior,” said Dr Jürgen Knoblich, Scientific Director Austria’s Institute for Molecular Biotechnology, who was not involved in the research. “The human cells functionally connect to the rat brain. This is the reason why the work is so outstanding.” Pasca describes this as the most advanced human brain circuitry ever concocted from human skin cells, and says the platform is the first to offer behavioral readouts for human cells in this context. With the ability to control and observe the effects on the rats’ behavior, the technology opens up exciting new opportunities for the study of neuropsychiatric disorders. https://med.stanford.edu/news/all-news/2022/10/human-rat-brain-neuron.html

    Santa Claus Tomb Unearthed

Tomb of original 'Santa Claus' Saint Nicholas discovered in Turkey - more than 1,600 years after his death The tomb of St Nicholas, the man credited as the inspiration for Santa Claus, has been uncovered in an ancient church in Turkey. The church in Demre, a town in the Antalya district in the south of Turkey was covered by rising sea levels in the Mediterranean centuries ago. Another church was built on top of the original building to protect St Nicholas' tomb. Archaeologists only recently found mosaics and stone flooring underneath, which helped them find the original church and St Nicholas' grave. He is thought to be the origin of the Santa Claus figure, after a story about him giving three poor young sisters a bag of gold coins each, so they would have a dowry for marriage.
  13. The BBC has prepared secret scripts that could be read on air if energy shortages cause blackouts or the loss of gas supplies this winter. The scripts, seen by the Guardian, set out how the corporation would reassure the public in the event that a “major loss of power” causes mobile phone networks, internet access, banking systems or traffic lights to fail across England, Wales and Scotland. Northern Ireland would be unaffected because its electricity grid is shared with the Republic of Ireland. The public would be advised to use car radios or battery-powered receivers to listen to emergency broadcasts on FM and long-wave frequencies usually reserved for Radio 2 and Radio 4. One draft BBC script warns that a blackout could last for up to two days, with hospitals and police placed under “extreme pressure”. Another says: “The government has said it’s hoped power will be restored in the next 36 to 48 hours. Different parts of Britain will start to receive intermittent supplies before then.” It is understood they were written by BBC journalists as part of routine emergency planning to deal with hypothetical scenarios. They include local details for the different regions and nations of Britain. In a national emergency, the BBC has a formal role in helping to spread information across the country, as part of the government’s civil contingencies planning. The broadcaster’s governance framework states: “If it appears to any UK government minister that an emergency has arisen, that minister may request that the BBC broadcast or otherwise distribute any announcement or other programme.” The government works with the BBC as part of its emergency planning process, although it is unclear whether it had any input on these scripts. A spokesperson said: “The government is confident that this is not a scenario we will face this winter.” The BBC said it did not comment on its emergency broadcasting plans. Ministers have been at pains to reassure businesses and householders that blackouts are unlikely. However, National Grid, which oversees electricity supplies in Great Britain, has issued a rare warning that power supplies could be at risk. The organisation said that in a worst-case scenario it could order planned blackouts for up to three hours a day if Russia cuts off all gas supplies to Europe. On Monday, National Grid’s chief executive, John Pettigrew, went further and said that if everything that could possibly go wrong did go wrong, there could be rolling blackouts between 4pm and 7pm on “really, really cold” days in January and February, when wind speeds are too low to power turbines. The BBC’s draft scenario suggests that in a national blackout it would run a greatly reduced temporary radio service from the UK’s emergency broadcasting centre, called the EBC, based in a rural location not acknowledged by the BBC. This would provide half-hourly news bulletins on Radio 4’s FM and long-wave frequencies and a “music service”, with news updates on the FM spectrum used by Radio 2. One scenario used in some of the scripts assumes that mains electricity is available in only a few lightly populated parts of Scotland – the Western Isles, Orkney and Shetland, and some parts of the Highlands. The draft scripts for on-air news bulletins include space for a quote from a Cabinet Office minister, given the fictitious name Jose Riera. The scripts report that these blackouts would affect gas supply systems, and knock out mobile phone networks, cashpoints and internet access. Traffic lights would stop working, causing disruption on the roads. One script, written for a hypothetical news bulletin, warns: “The emergency services are under extreme pressure. People are being advised not to contact them unless absolutely necessary.” It states that in Wales an emergency coordination centre has been set up, while in Scotland the first minister, Nicola Sturgeon, is chairing the devolved government’s emergency planning meeting. It adds: “Officials are saying there is no current risk to food supply and distribution. But they’re asking people to look out for vulnerable neighbours and relatives.”
  14. As Beijing holds its 20th Chinese Communist Party congress, which is expected to extend Xi Jinping's rule, immigrants from Hong Kong held a protest outside the Chinese consulate in Manchester, UK. The Chinese consul general Zheng Xiyuan and his staff then assaulted some of the protestors, taking and destroying their signs, dragging one of them into the consulate, and began to beat him up. Fortunately, local police were able to rescue the protestors. https://www.bbc.com/news/world-asia-china-63296107 Despite the video evidence, Chinese officials are claiming the protestor attempted to illegally enter the consulate. https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2022/oct/18/china-claims-hong-kong-protester-entered-manchester-consulate-illegally
  15. Ok so a person followed me on IG and DM'd me. I replied out of curiosity and tried to give him the benefit of the doubt, so I asked them if we know each other and he said no, my profile was suggested by IG for him. Then he started asking what my job is (that's where I stopped giving him attention and convinced it's a faker). His profile is locked/private, he said he's from OZ and his profile picture looks like a middle aged white man. How much do we bet this person is someone I know in real life taking up a persona? He has hundreds of followers but I'm still suspicious. I ignored him, though he kept DM'ing me asking me questions every once in a while. Did I do the right thing by ignoring this person who is 90% a faker or I'm just being paranoid/mean?
