Because it has actually nothing to do with Katy. Many of us like(d) Katy. It has all to do with Luke and that he's an accused rapist who should be a pariah in female pop. Katy is only involved because she herself chose to involve herself by working with someone many pop fans reasonably want protested and banned from pop music. As someone who doesn't hate women, I don't want to see Dr. Luke allowed in the industry. I want someone who harbors violence for women to suffer for their actions. I want him to be a pariah and people to be embarrassed to be associated with him. I want the reality of what he did to Kesha be forever synonymous with his name. It's **** rapists every day until the end of days. And if Katy finds herself as wanting to be the one to roll out the red carpet for a rapist and put HER legacy on the line as collateral to welcome him back and re-normalize him and help him show face again, then it's unfortunately **** Katy Perry for supporting rapists too.

First, as @glitch explained, this is simply not true. Second, what sets Katy apart from others currently working with him is that: She is a pop star and not a rapper or hip-hop artist, which is a genre Luke transitioned into to soften the backlash and be more welcomed as a producer because he knows his name is still tainted in pop. She is a household name without contractual ties to Luke who can work with anyone she wants. She worked with him before Kesha filed her lawsuit, then ditched him for two albums for PR reasons and now came back to him. She knows Kesha better and has known her for a longer time than probably any other artist in the music industry. She was literally a witness of Dr. Luke's lawsuit against Kesha.

Best New Artist is always the MESSIEST category and I just do not understand how all these artists with 10 years in the industry are being called new just bc they underperformed all this time. The 2011-2015 ruleset was the best one imo No previous albums No previous Grammy wins The above actually means the artist is genuinely "new". Them changing it in 2016 has just led to ridiculous nominations and submissions ever since.

Nobody thought that a sapphic woman who makes queer music would enter the mainstream like this, and it's unfortunate that people are undermining this achievement by calling her an industry plant.
