Madonna sold all those records while being a controversial, polarizing figure and a risk-taker. She never cared to soften or tone down her image and her music in order to cater to the masses and sell albums. Yet, still became the best-selling female artist of all time. That’s why she’ll always be thee queen of pop47 points

Madonna mostly sold one album per one person each and still sold millions . Taylor release several versions of the same thing , with a single Stan buying like 4 copies of the same album. You can’t compare. Also the best Taylor can ever do is surpass her commercial sale. She will never touch her cultural impact. Madonna will always be the greatest female pop star ever.45 points

The only thing Taylor has done over Madonna is remain commercially successful and stable for longer but this comes at the price of being most likely the most boring mainstream artist to come out this century23 points

The same album debuting with a million copies sold twice. The power of eternal 15 year old white girls, uncool white gays and Caucasian Asians knows no bounds. Who needs the poc continent of Europe when you have that.23 points

Everybody wants to wake up to the news I woke up to this morning. Everybody. I was preparing my coffee, turning on wi-fi and the first thing I read is: “Is It Over Now? challenging for #1, Sl*t! #4”. I blinked my eyes countless times and I went on Facebook just to see more and more posts about it. I couldn’t believe it. My Is It Platinum Now? dream was coming true and there I was at 8AM sitting in my kitchen looking at the screen of my iPhone.20 points

How exactly? The sales aren't there, the absolute game changing music and visuals aren't there, the creativity isn't there, the risk taking and evolution isn't there, the groundbreaking live performances aren't there, she isn't a fashion icon even though she has worn beautiful gowns... Sure, people are listening to Taylor a lot at the moment, but people also listened to Madonna a lot too, it just wasn't recorded - she sold hundreds of millions of albums full of tracks that have probably been listened to many many billions of times, but we can't tell.15 points
-
Taylor fans would never understand how and why Madonna has made more impact than her. I've come to accept that there are people who either "get" Madonna or don't...the ones who don't will never be convinced that Madonna simply cannot be surpassed culturally by Taylor. Without Madonna, the concept of Taylor's "eras" wouldn't even exist. Taylor is a business machine. Madonna is an artist. There's an extreme difference between the two, and Taylor will never come close to what Madonna brought to pop music.14 points

Let's get it all out of the way, shall we? "Taylor's only selling well cause she's a Blonde White woman. Cause, you know, she's like the only Blonde White woman making music." "My 80 year old Babushka in Moscow doesn't know who Taylor is but she's heard of Britney Spears before. Therefore, Taylor will never be a superstar and she's only popular in America." "That's what happens when your fanbase consists of teenage White girls and brainwashed White worshipping Asians." "Haha...See how these Swifties only talk about the sales and charts and never the music itself." *while posting in a chart thread* "She sold a million different vinyl variants of the album. Therefore, these sales are frontloaded and don't count. She's just like BTS." "She's profiting too much off of these re-recordings. She doesn't actually care about her fans unlike other MPG's who won't charge a dime for their music." "A group of Alt Right incels who nobody's heard of thirsted over her and she's never condemned her. Therefore, she's a closet White supremacist who's selling well due solely to racism." I think that just about covers it.14 points

You know what Madonna wasn't doing 17 years into her career? Having albums open with 1M+ copies first week. Doesn't make her accomplishments any less impressive. See, i can play that game too. Madonna had underperformances in her career too, just like Taylor had. Taylor's success is beyond what we've seen for almost any female artist in history, 2023 alone will probably be the all-time peak for a female artist EVER. I'll say it again: stop underestimating her, it's just stupid to do so at this point. Why are you so certain that she won't have hits in her 40s, outside of you blindly hating her?13 points

I think that while, in terms of overall units and raw consumption metrics, Taylor is well on her way to outselling Madonna in the next few years, we need not count our chickens before they hatch. I also think a lot of people would strongly disagree that Taylor has yet outpaced Madonna's cultural influence, even in the US - Madonna is, after all, THE pop star blueprint.13 points

It was a "she's back!" kind of era, especially cause Blackout was a bit ignored or even mocked due to the VMA 2007, and how she had "lost it". Still think this era could've been MUCH bigger for her, radio was finally on her side as well as the public, she could've easily pushed for 6 singles.11 points

overrated noisy mess. only half of it is listenable and that's me being generous. the only reason why she still hasn't released a new album is because tumblr gays and pretentious critics like bitchfork overhyped this mid ass album and it got to her head so now she can't release stuff without expecting a huge budget and rollout campaign from her label like she's some mastermind genius artist when she can't sing anymore, barely writes her songs, can't act, can't even release music videos. the fact that she took so much offense and threw a fit when her label asked her to shoot the don't forget video on an iphone when everyone from gaga to olivia to selina to lanallah done that. and then she fired the video editor and scrapped the video cause she is a spoiled brat who just wants to play victim to her label without giving a **** about professionalism, her career or any of the promises she make to her 5 remaining fans. even skyfupdates dropped her. but enough about narcissistic victim playing complexes, back to night time, skip time. she was kkunt for the album cover, i'll give her that. but thank you dev hynes for everything is embarrassing and justin+ariel for the few decent tracks on this. and good luck with that masochism you speak of.11 points

The main problem about the Swifties is that they are incredibly US-centric. Taylor isn’t doing any record-breaking numbers in most places outside of the US. We can start with Austria. In Austria, her highest-charting song from 1989TV is at #8 and she only has two Top 10s there. In Brazil her highest-charting song is #13 and she only has two songs on the Top 20 there. In Columbia her highest-charting song is at #44. In Czech Republic she’s #22. In Denmark her highest charting song is at #19. In Egypt she has ZERO songs in the Top 50. In France her highest charting song is at #43. In Germany it’s #19. In Italy it’s #49. In Poland, it’s #26. In Spain she’s #40. The Swifties always do this. They completely ignore the stats from other territories and only include the US, the UK and Australia because those are the only places where she can rival the legends. Madonna was and still is equally famous in almost every country. The Beatles would’ve probably charted #1 everywhere. People on this board that aren’t the Swifties need to shove these stats down their throats because when the last few rereleases had these stats outside of the US what I heard was “just wait until 1989TV comes out” and now it’s out and it’s still not doing “Madonna and Michael Jackson business” anywhere but Anglosphere They also claimed that The Eras movie would be the new Barbie but its overseas numbers outside of Anglosphere are not impressive as well. They are gaslighting ya’ll into thinking Taylor belongs anywhere near Madonna or MJ or The Beatles when she doesn’t even belong near Adele in most countries in terms of sales.11 points

Michael Jackson at his peak wouldnt have dominated the Spotify singles charts in every single country (with album tracks even.... like... 1989 TV doesnt have a single. No video, nothing on TTH). He absolutely wouldnt have. A lot of the countries you listed are completely dominated by local acts. The album will still go #1 in most countries, because people stream all her album tracks and she has people actually buying her albums everywhere.10 points

Madonna sweetie, I’m so sorry. imagine saying one of the most monumental, experimental, unapologetic artist of all time has been topped by someone so non-threatening, vanilla and insipid who is only that big because blonde white girls with blue eyes can see themselves in her and her corny music. Madonna’s music, videos, incredible performances shifted culture world wide and used her fame to uplift marginalized people. do you see Taylor fully supporting the lgbtq community at the peak of her career and even including facts about HIV/aids on her monumental album True Blue which she released at the peak of her career? Madonna would actually be bigger than she is if she was a people’s pleaser and behaved the way society wants her to behave. That’s why the media has always felt like they need to “humble” her because she’s always defiant and confident. like Aretha said:10 points

One of the best tours I've ever attended. It was great. My first Madonna tour and I knew maybe half of the songs. However, she still delivered every second on that stage. So happy I decided to go!9 points

The way this is the equivalent of like 4/5 of the entire US population streaming one Taylor song each For all the American girls out there, put this into perspective as 4 in every 5 people you know (and 4 in every 5 people they know; and on and on) streaming one Taylor song each The one song I streamed was Cowboy Like Me9 points
