I hear nothing but facts. I'im so shocked that so few celebrities are speaking out against the war crimes and the ethnic cleansing/genocide that are being committed in Gaza by the apartheid state of Israel.36 points

“You have 3 hours to make a 7 hour walking journey, including transporting any belongings, memories or keepsakes representative of your entire lives and homes. We dgaf what you’ll be returning to, because we don’t want you to return. We dgaf if you’re disabled, injured or can’t drive because we’ve cut off fuel access. We dgaf that you don’t have clean drinking water because we’ve shut that off too. We dgaf if you have pets that may die or stress during the journey. We dgaf if we said this already and killed moving civilians anyway. We are so compassionate, look! It’s a heads up bombing of your city!”22 points

The Israeli government is a far-right conservative supremacy project. Progressive, leftist, and socialist anti-Zionist Jewish people are gathering and protesting their crimes. Israel does not get to lay claim to all Jewish people's perspectives:21 points

Yes of course. Britney is literally the blueprint of the pop prototype we still see today. If it wasn’t for Britney, none of the artists that are currently scoring massive hits with Swedish pop producers would be a thing either for example. Pop music ánd women’s representation in pop were not the same after Baby One More Time and Oops I Did It Again and that is very evident.21 points

Most of you guys are really lucky you don't speak Hebrew. The way so many Israelis are calling and celebrating the idea of ethnic cleansing is bone-chilling (yes, they explicity say things like "this is what they get" and calls to "clear" the entire strip and build Jewish towns on top of the rubble). Worse yet, I finally made posts on Instagram calling for peace and for an end to the war, only to see that merely asking for calling for peace (even when explicitly condemning Hamas' targeting of civilians) can be painted as "spreading information that impacts public peace and/or the spirit of soldiers' during times of war" if a well-funded right-wing nuts try to push it that far. It can result up to five years in prison, and now I'm scared. I hid my story from every Jewish Israeli person I have on my Instagram. Even though in 99.9% of the time I only add people that I know and "vet," and I know them as fairly liberal and maybe just moderate within the context of Israeli politics, I just don't feel safe anymore. A witch hunt is happening all over the country, everyone who expressed opposition to the war are attacked, villified, and have their careers or educational opportunities threatened if not destroyed. I like to think that even if they (unfortunately) disagree with my humanitarian message, most of them would not in a million years do such a thing. But with the current atmosphere, I really don't know. I'm getting scared for my future for simply speaking up against the killing of civilians (on both-sides, mind you!!!). I just don't know anymore.21 points

What? it's true. Signing a letter that condems the actions of Israel or openly criticize a zionist individual can get your full name, face picture and whereabouts here: https://canarymission.org/ I personally know people that have made into the student list simply for calling for the end of ethnic cleansing in Palestine, which the Canary Mission believes to be an "antisemitic trope to demonize Israel". There are some sort of anti-BDS law placed in most states in US and bills proposed in many other western countries, like the UK, that directly target companies, small bussiness and even public bodies to associate themselves with the BDS movement, the concept of what it means to have an "BDS association" being very inconsistent to begin with. People will rightfully feel scared to express their views and face the risk of hurting their careers and safety. I'm not trying to be rude or mean, but you should try to be more careful while discussing such a sensitive topic that directly impacts the lives of millions of people. You were the member that randomly said that "Middle Easteners didn't dissociate themselves enough from the actions of 9/11 and ISIS", despite the fact that the 9/11 attack was done by al-Qaeda, which didn't even operate in the Middle East. Geopolitical topics are complex and no one knows everything, but fact-checking doesn't hurt, especially when you have openly admitted to hold a certain bias against pro-palestinian voices, even though you're not fully aware of the history of the Palestinian struggle.19 points

Another thing the media is purposefully ignoring and not reporting are the top newspapers in Israel calling for Netanyahu to go. They blamed him for the attack too. Yesterday Israelis protested against him calling him a murderer and apparently he’s losing support. The media is making it appear as if he has all this popularity and support which is not 100% accurate nor the full story. No context whatsoever.18 points

Yeah the lyrics make total sense? You could argue you don’t think they’re good but i think the interpretation is pretty straightforward: Fever dream high in the quiet of the night -> a high fever (synonym for her crush) suddenly comes on at night, the crush is palpable physically. She’s is getting flushed/hot like during a fever, or when you have an intense crush You know that I caught it (Oh yeah, you're right, I want it) -> she caught the fever (has a crush on him) and he knows it Bad, bad boy, shiny toy with a price You know that I bought it (Oh yeah, you're right, I want it) -> Joe is a bad boy ( ), a new shiny/appealing toy for her (since the crush is still fresh and nothing serious). She fears she will have a price to pay (=the crush will end badly), but she happily paid the price Killing me slow, out the window I'm always waiting for you to be waiting below -> she’s afraid of what will happen but always checking her window and hoping he will be there Devils roll the dice, angels roll their eyes -> fate is taking its course, angels (the rational ones, maybe referring to her friends) roll their eyes cause it’s a bad idea, but devils (who don’t care about human fates) are having fun and gambling on her fate, because they suspect it will end badly for her What doesn't kill me makes me want you more -> she’s willing to accept the price/hurt in order to be with him its just a very dramatic and metaphorical description of the early passionate stage of a mutual crush16 points

This was so well said. Zionist propaganda machine in the West has been framing the conflict as this deeply "complicated" and incredibly "layered" issue that is "difficult to grasp" and much more "complex" than it appears for the average person for decades to further entrench the status quo, convincing people to stay away from learning the truth, and therefore remaining "neutral". This conflict is only "complicated" if you are doing Olympic-level mental gymnastics to try and justify an ongoing genocide or if you have mixed feelings about apartheid/ethnic cleansing. It's 2023 and this has been happening for over 7 decades. There's truly no excuse for you to not open a damn book, read about the history of Palestine, watch a documentary, follow and listen to Palestinian creators/journalists and educate yourself if you genuinely want to. I understand that many have been force-fed propaganda since birth and there's no shame in asking for resources to educate yourself, but choosing to stay ignorant in this digital age while still rambling about "both sides" is something else. I have zero patience left for these people, and they have completely lost the benefit of the doubt. And once again: constantly handwringing about both sides, whataboutism, and equivocation isn't "nuance". It's taking a stance without having the spine to say it. While I usually think that it's best to just keep your mouth shut/sit down and eat your food if you're ignorant instead of making a fool out of yourself like many celebs/creators/influencers have been doing this week, I feel ilike it is being used as an excuse to shirk any responsibility from having to say anything. And this includes "normal" people as well.16 points

My grandfather on my mother’s side was kicked out of his home in Jaffa in 1948. His family became refugees in Lebanon and were never allowed to return again. My grandfather died still talking about the day when he’d be able to return to his home. Stop telling Palestinians to leave. Stop telling neighboring countries to take refugees in as if Palestinians are just animals to be passed along. How about start telling Israel to stop its war crimes, to stop its illegal settlements and illegal occupation, it’s racism towards Palestinians. Israel treats Palestinians like sub-class citizens. Their own government officials call Palestinians animals and talk about “flattening in Gaza.” Israel needs to be held accountable for the destruction they’ve caused to Palestinian lives not just today but the lives they’ve destroyed in the past as well. They took their homes, land, destroyed their way of life, and are now just trying to completely erase them all together. I feel like I am living in some crazy world where there are people who actually feel comfortable going to sleep at night all while justifying a genocide.15 points

Israel has the support of western powers sure m but they’ve lost public support. All those protests around the world Im convinced is helping to shift the narrative hence why you have all these western leaders scrambling now trying to include Palestinians in the conversation when this last week they had no issue lumping Hamas with Palestinians. No one with a conscious can look at what Israel is doing and think it’s okay. Keep protesting. Keep being vocal.14 points

Are both of these both trying to use things widely considered objective failures or disproportional uses of power - either the response to 9/11 or Pearl Harbor - as somehow.. justification to Israel? "Welll... it *WAS* after 9/11!!". The American response to 9/11 is widely considered a failure both to the global community and even, in a rare moment of reflection, in its own borders. Michelle Obama could try hugging him for more PR, but GWB left office a public disgrace and as someone who turned America into a global embarrassment for a false war. Aren't you the same user who said ISIS did 9/11???14 points

Being pro-Israel is one of the most protected viewpoints one can have in the entire western world. Meanwhile people with the opposing view are getting blacklisted from ever getting hired for jobs because they view Palestinians as anything other than subhuman trash. Miss me with that persecution complex, buddy.14 points

Not only that, but Hamas won because the people in Gaza saw them as a last resort after the secular leadership was diminished after the Second Intifada, not because they love Islamic fundamentalism and terrorism. Hamas even won Christian villages in that election. They have legitimacy in Gaza because they're the only ones who can mount any kind of opposition to Israel's crimes. At the end of day, the Palestinians have to work with what they have, not what they'd wish to have. Israel has been oppressing Palestinians long before Hamas existed (and would continue to if Hamas stopped existing this very second), so the "but, but Hamas!1!1!!!" cries will always ring as a misunderstanding of the conflict (or straight-up concern trolling) to me.13 points

Because she's not the one forcing herself down anyone's throat. She's just doing her thing and people are the ones consuming it like crazy because they like her that much. She's not performing at events (she's performing at her own shows). She's not promoting her albums on talk shows (she's just releasing them and then she disappears). Sure, her appearance at those football games were highly publicized, but it cooled down now that her boyfriend complained about it. Artists that suffer from overexposure put themselves in that situation. Taylor is smart enough to not do it to herself.13 points

I think this deserves its own thread outside of the Taylor streaming thread. Huge achievement: Not only does she hold the biggest year (+month, +week, +day…) ever now, she’ll be the first woman ever to top their year-end Most Streamed Artists list. She will end the year over 28B at her current rate, which would be a good 7B more than the previous record, and could potentially hit 30B totally this year13 points

I cannot fathom any of this, I cannot believe how we are witnessing genocide and no government is offering support to the Palestinian people. We, as a society deserve the absolute worst, we have failed in every single way possible and I cannot sleep at night knowing that I can carry on with my life whilst thousands of people are being murdered every minute. It makes me feel guilty, it kills me that I cannot do anything but watch, it kills me to see what the media is doing and it kills me seeing the Palestinians asking for help but no one is there to listen. What the government of Israel is doing is unspeakable evil, I am sad, I am upset, and I am scared for what's gonna happen next.13 points

Some people will simply not move. They (rightfully) believe that once they leave, they will not be allowed to go back. A minister in the new emergency government said the quiet part out loud and said the Gaza strip should "pay" with the shrinkage of it's territory. It is an ethnic cleansing operation and everyone in Gaza knows it. Some decide to leave for fear of their lives, some decide to stay, and some (according to questionable reports, but I have to mention it) are forced to stay by Hamas.13 points

It's really surreal to live during our time. Seeing people suffer in real time, but being completely unable to do anything about it. Historians in the future will also have endless things to say about how the Western world handled the conflict in Ukraine vs. the one in Palestine.12 points

So someone is "taking a side" when condemning all war crimes, and that the virtue of objective reality means doing such would require acknowledging one side is doing the vast majority of war crimes?12 points

Part of the harm of the "PALESTINIANS ARE ALL SAVAGE ISLAMISTS!!!" framework - and why it's important to recognize polling that the average Israeli is no-less and sometimes more extremist in their views than your average Palestinian - is because you can just as easily find contrasting realities like the below. To where you have an American woman migrate to a country thousands of miles away because she believes it to be a sacred religious homeland and cheers on one of the world's most aggressive armies as "God's soldiers" dropping bombs that then land on the heads of entrapped and innocent Palestinians who have only known life inside that of an internment camp: Bringing up ISIS, let alone al-Qaeda, when discussing Israel's occupation of Palestine is just... historical illiteracy.12 points
-
Yeah, I initially thought your not-very-bright takes were just the case of the average american that can't point to the Middle East in a globe map but still felt like they had to share their CNN'd view on topics that are clearly out of their depth, but considering your few last posts, it's not an innocent lack of knowledge on the matter, there's bad faith and intellectual dishonesty at play here. People losing jobs left and right and being publicly targeted by an organization entirely dedicated to harass pro-palestinian voices, on top of the existence of anti-BDS laws in the first place, are more than concrete proves that being pro-Israel is a very much protected view in the Western world and openly oppose such view can threaten the safety of one, as @ClashAndBurn initially said. After you finally check on Google where is the location of Afghanistan after learning that Al-Qaeda didn't operate in the Middle East, maybe you can Google for more 'concrete evidence' as you wish.12 points

Well said as always. The "Free Palestine...from Hamas!" crowd deliberately ignore the fact that there'll be a negative narrative painted against any Palestinian resistance movement, and that narrative will ultimately be used to justify the mass murder and ethnic cleaning from Israel against Palestinians, because Israel and it’s western allies do not believe Palestinians have a right to fight back for their lives and land, regardless of what their resistance may look like. "-but but Hamas are cold-hearted sociopaths that want all Jews erased from the Middle East, they are the ones to blame for the situation Gazans are currently in!!" I wish people could stop spouting those talking points for just one second and genuinely ask themselves about the Israel-Palestine dynamics before the rise of Hamas to power. - When did Israel start stealing lands exceeding the initial proposed demarcation by the UN? Was it before Hamas? - Were people already displaced from their villages, in order to give space to Israeli settlers, and turned into refugees unable to return to home? - Were palestinian civilians already killed at alarmingly high rates by the IDF? The answer to all these questions are: yes. No ifs, ands, or buts. Let's not sit in here and disingenuously act like the West had any sort of positive perception of the *secular* Palestinian liberation organizations during that time, most of these parties being self-proclaimed either as Marxist-Leninist or Social Democrat, like Fatah, and that Israel didn't do everything in their power to shut PLO off (and still does). I mean, the funding of Israel to Hamas, in the hopes of dividing and conquering Palestinians, is how Hamas got the backing needed to become a relevant military force to begin with. The truth, and that may be uncomfortable to some, is that whether Palestinian civilians support Hamas or not, it really doesn't matter at the end of the day. Sure, it's important to let it be clear that many of them absolutely despise their actions and make that distinction, but that information shouldn't hold any weight to the credibility of the Palestinian struggle. As we've already discussed many times before in this thread, people living under extreme horror and degrading conditions will hold themselves to any force that presents itself as a strong fighter capable of achieving their freedom. Western liberals need to stop looking at the world through Marvel'd lens and stop punishing people living under an aparhteid regime because some of them do not behave like the perfect victims straight out of a sanitized Hollywood documentary-film.11 points

The US has sent Israel a total of $158 billion (not adjusted for inflation) in bilateral assistance and missile defense funding since 1948. https://www.businessinsider.in/politics/world/news/how-us-tax-dollars-have-supported-israel-and-its-military-for-75-years-and-whats-next-for-american-aid/articleshow/104400105.cms When bombs and missiles are exploding in Gaza, they are funded by the US taxpayer.
