  1. Scab is a highly specific and derogatory term for a strikebreaker. You might find that term being used a lot in the media because... we're in the middle of two historic strikes. Living up to your username for sure.

  7. Scab has been used as a pejorative since the 1500s, and specifically for strikebreakers since the 1800s. Y’all wanna talk down to people while being this blatantly wrong and uninformed

  8. Yes because whether or not you care for RuPaul, his life has been incredibly fascinating and his impact on popular culture as a whole truly cannot be understated. He sits alongside just a tiny, tiny handful of drag performers who helped take the art out of the underground and made it an internationally acknowledged and respected art form, and he did it as a person of color no less too. There is a lifetime of stories that deserved to be told, especially to a younger gay audience. People seem to not remember what it was like for the community in the time that Ru was coming up in, and it's nice for them to be reminded and educated that so much of what they take for granted now was won through years of overcoming hardships that many modern members of the community simply will never understand.

  9. It’s telling when some of y’all are more disturbed by imagined fears about scab being used by self-righteous “woke” people than the exploitation of these workers.

  20. I think the main issue here is that it's just an appearance... like none of these podcast men are getting invites to either of these women's pool parties. One of them has a deep parasocial connection with her fans that goes beyond music, they feel like they know her and she cares about them, they think she does everything on her own, and shares every part of her life in songs. Which is all in their heads. Whereas Beyoncé has not really played into that game. She came up in the 90's. When "No, No, No" entered the Hot 100, less than 1 in 5 households even had internet in the US, let alone global figures. She exists to make art, present it, perform it for fans — then she clocks out. She lets us in with small glimpses, i.e. her documentaries, but otherwise she's a very private person. The public today expects and feels entitled to learn about celebrities' personal lives and speculate about relationship and friendship drama. Even when Bey had drama, she handled it very carefully and crafted a profound artistic project. No interviews about feuds, no cryptic social media posts, no paparazzi walks in NYC.

  23. And there's no need for you to reveal what i'm doing to everyone. Something which is normally private but you see it because of your admin perms. Sometimes 30 seconds makes a big difference, if you don't want your thread to be an AP.

  24. Any reason you thought it would be appropriate to laugh react at a trans woman’s vulnerable post on here about feeling unsafe as a trans woman and about being tired of having to fight for their basic rights on a predominantly queer forum (after endorsing the transphobic rhetoric in here)?

  25. It's fine for them, when the words words words on the internet stops they don't care. It'll be me and my trans sisters who end up not going to hospital because we don't feel safe because they'll be trying to throw us on a mens ward. Really getting tired now. I never wanted to be trans, I just am a woman. I'm so tired of having to fight for the most basic things.

  26. And the shitty way their boss behaved during that strike clearly lost their trust. Good for them to stand up for themselves and put their values ahead of a paycheck. I hope good things await.

  33. The video was pretty tame. + RuPaul is going to be remembered as one of the most important celebrities from this time. The positive impact she’s had is truly amazing. I know everyone loves shitting on her but there’s a reason she’s so respected by her peers and most of the biggest names in drag. If Ru was never for you, that’s fine. But it’s pretty obvious why she means a lot to many.

  34. I don't revisit Rainbow all that often but when I do I'm constantly floored by how insanely impressive and high-brow it is. Let 'Em Talk came on shuffle the other day and it gagged me a bit. Even one-offs like Hymn and Godzilla strike a chord. It's expertly produced, so sonically variant yet cohesive at the same time (which is really hard to do, ahem, High Road) and the writing is impeccable. It's a testament to the overall quality that the corniest song is Boogie Feet and it still works.

  36. Majority of writers don’t and haven’t ever made that kind of money, only the showrunners or the celebrity producers that sell a script to a studio. The regular staff jobs have been outsourced to contract gigs that restrict their autonomy, literally the same trend occurring in every other sector and the entire reason the WGA (and every other union worker) went and is going on strike. So you can say you aren’t “obligated to care” if you want, that just makes you unprincipled, and you look like a moron trying to patronize people that want to change an unjust system.
