Ok Fats, I'm late as all hell but I decided to do 2017 list after 5 years of doing it on my Facebook. The rules are simple:

 

Songs as singles And Film must be released in 2017. No 2016 chart related songs or film will be included  ( Sorry Love on the Brain, Million Reasons, and Bad and Bouijee )

Ok ladies and gentlemen welcome to the first annual Top 10 list.

 

2017 musically and film wise was an improvement from the crap stain that was 2016. Music and film were livelier than last 2016s gloom and doom and it took away from the actual gloom and doom that went on in the real world.

 

So to start off let's go with the people in the entertainment that broke through mediocrity or being more than just a one hit wonder:

Honorable MENTIONS 

 

BEST Songs:

 

 

Mask Off -Future: Ok. I hate Future . I feel like he's one of the reasons why we have this "mumble rap" trend. But man is the flute and beat so good. I enjoy it so much it makes me forget about what Future says in the song.

 

 

Swalla - Jason Derulo ft. Ty Dollar Sign and Nicki Minaj: I know I know. But I'm sorry this song is a bop. I haven't heard a song with this much energy all year. The beat is great, Jason sounds the most confident he's ever sounded and  Nicki has the best verses she's had the entire year. TDS is just there and probably the reason it didn't go top 10.

 

 

Bad At Love -Halsey: I know everyone on ATRL hates Halsey but she made me a fan this  year with Hopeless Fountain Kingdom. This song shows the actuality of some people being bad at relationships ( and considering I just recently went through my second breakup in 2 years and the previous one was an engagement I can relate). The only reason this isn't higher is cuz there are way better songs on HFK  (make Alone a single fat!!!)

 

 

It Ain't Me-Kygo x Selena Gomez:

Best Selena Song this year. Kygo is great at usual.

The Lego Batman Movie 

 

Not as good as the Lego Movie but was a great fun time.

 

Beauty and the Beast

 

A good adaptation though little unnecessary.

 

John Wick: Chapter 2

Better than the first and a great action film

 

Spiderman: Homecoming

Excellent return to Spiderman though the fatigue has kicked in, Hope the sequel moves better.

Only reason why it's not in the top ten is cuz it doesn't need anymore attention then he needs.

Ok. here comes the controversial list. Now these songs and films aren't terrible ( some are in fact are good) but the GP ( and in some cases ATRL) praised them to the high heavens....I def will have some stans screaming me after this. Here we go:

 

 

 

 

Top 10 Overrated Hit Songs of 2017

 

10.Believer- Imagine Dragons: Ok, I'm probably the only ATRLer that doesnt hate this song but come on....how did this become a hit?! ID lost their credibility a long time ago but the fact the US GP to keep it in the top 10 for so long . Then I had to hear this in every car commercial and completely turned me off of seeing Murder on the Orient Express. The song isn't terrible and I like the chorus but I see so much of it's flaws that it shouldn't have succeeded like it did.

 

9.Wild Thoughts - DJ Khaled ft. Rihanna and Bryson Tiller: Here's controversial pick #1. I like the song, Rih sound sexy in it and the Maria Maria sample is always great on any song. I even defended it's chart run from people who hated it. But then, I started seeing the song on peoples best lists. Is it a fun song? Yes. Is it good? Well, did you listen to Bryson's verse about having sex with a girl til she's cremated, or the Jason reference which makes no sense or Rih reference to a football team that played a full 2 decades she was even born?! I'm not gonna get to "DJ KHALED!!!" ruining the song anytime he gets.

 

 

8/7/6.-Despacito (Remix) - Luis Fonsi ft. Daddy Yankee & Justin Bieber/ Mi Gente ( remix) - JBalvin ft. Willy William and Beyonce/ Reggeton Lento (remix) - CNCO ft Little Mix-  Here we go....I'm probably will have Bieber fans or the Hive after me for weeks for this. Two out of the 3 songs I love the original but all 3 remixes are pure crap. I couldnt pick which one goes where so you decide. But let me explain:

 

Justin disrespected Latinos but being in this and then refusing to perform it cuz he didnt bother to learn the words. Also compared to you know ...Latinos who actually speak Spanish, he sounds like hes trying way too hard to get it right.

 

The Mi Gente remix is a hot mess mixing wise. It's clearly a rush job without even trying to fix it. Also I love Beyonce's wordplay her but what the hell does it have to do with the song. At least compared to Bieber, she tried to bring something new to the table.

 

UK ATRLers.... wtf?! How is this crap of a remix hit top 5?!!! Little Mix looks so out of place ( in the song and in the embarrassment of a music video) and they lined themselves with these wannabe Mundo. I'm soo glad the US ignored this.

5.Praying - Kesha; And here goes my #REPUTATION. Look I get it, Kesha did a emotional ballad related to Dr.Scumbag...but why...why?! did it have to be so boring? I want to praise her and sleep at the same time. Woman did something similar but was more upbeat and it was a bop ( and ya'll let it flop.) I dont understand.

 

4. Party- Chris Brown ft. Usher and Gucci Mane: Ugh this was somehow a hit ( it went platinum). Why do ya let keep Chris Brown happen? Why?. The beat is ugly, Chris talks about sex with a girl in the worst abuser way and Usher gave his worst vocal performance in years. Do ask me about Gucci Mane, I just skipped it.

 

3.What Lovers Do - Maroon 5 ft. SZA: I love you SZA but no. It's boring. SZA had nothing to work with, the beat is so monotone and Maroon 5 is the same Maroon 5 of the last 5 years. Sellouts

 

2.Chained to the Rhythm-Katy Perry ft. Damien Marley: What sucks is this song would actually work for any debut pop artist. But not for Katherine. No way should she be singing a song about shaming us to listening to mindless pop and not playing attention to the issues in the world  when she was the main one supplying us with it. Hypocrite.

 

But it doesn't compared to the most overrated song of them all... not only is it not deserving of its success , not only it's been hyped to the heavens and is somehow on people's best list but....

 

Eff it, it's the Chainsmokers.

1.Something Just Like This- The Chainsmokers & Coldplay: Stop making them famous!!! And they dragged Coldplay into this too. Hell if it wasnt for Chris Martin's energy in the song, I would have this on the worst list. Lord Jesus though, the lyrics to this is cheesier than anything from 2016 ( and I heard Me Too last year) and the Chainsmokers need to stop reusing the same beats ( the drop is the same drop from Roses). This is the most generic song of 2017 and yall made this the 5th best song on the Billboard YE. Ugh.

Top 10 Overrated Films

 

10. Blade Runner 2049:  I liked it but it was way too long to get to a point that couldve been established a half hour earlier.

 

9. Life: What looked like an interesting sci fi film became a generic by the numbers thriller

 

8. Personal Shopper: Apparently only 3 ATRLers saw this film and man was it boring. KStew did her best performance as an actress but it's not really saying much.

 

7. Three Billboards Outside Ebbing Missouri: Frances Mcdormand is better than this. I wanna call White People Problems the movie cuz they have a racist cop character and try to redeem him....

 

6.Fate of the Furious : These movies are still fun but this has got to be the worst one since Toyko Drift.

 

5.All Eyez on Me:  I feel like putting this on the worst list for the complete disrespect to Tupac's legacy but this'll do.

 

4.It Comes At Night: It's only on here cuz it was advertised as a horror movie, when it's a great drama and that pissed me off for messing up what I expected.

 

 

3. A Cure for Wellness:  It's Shutter Island lite. Predictable as hell.

 

2. Power Rangers: Worst use of an LGBT character, boring for 2/3s and Elizabeth Banks acted like she was in another movie. If i wasn't for the charming cast who played the Rangers, this wouldve suck.

 

1. Alien: Covenant:

 

You guys got your Alien movie are you happy? I was excited to see this because Im one of the 6 people who liked Prometheus. But the plot , the characters actions and decisions in this one were just dumb. Where Prometheus tried to be intellectual, Covenant was a by the numbers horror film you can find on the discount section Walmart.

10. Bon Appetit-Katy Perry ft, Migos : Told you that Swish Swish wasn't the worst thing Katy came out with. Jesus Katy, I thought you learned from Dark Horse that you can't make sexy songs anymore. Migos is basically nonexistent in this song, Katy sounds like she's trying too hard, and the lyrics feel like someones grandma wanting to be sexy.

 

9.No Promises- Cheat Codes ft Demi Lovato: Worst drop of 2017. Worst use of Demi Lovatos vocals ever. And anyone who thought that Cheat Codes guy could sing need to quit the music business.

 

8. Rake it Up - Yo Gotti ft. Nicki Minaj: Ok, we already know that Nicki referring China 5x as a clever rhyme didnt work. But my problem with the song isnt her....it's Yo Gotti. The lyrics make 0 sense in the fact you don't who hes referring to on the track.  One point he's talking about strippers and he switches to a hater ( or I think it's hater or maybe its still the stripper because he calls her a b-word or bleeding once a month...u know what...forget it). Also the beat is Down in the DM..ugh.

 

7. I'm the One - DJ Khaled Ft Justin,Chance,Lil Wayne, Quavo: Really, this how Chance the Rapper gets a #1?! Good God America!! This is the worst work for everyone invovled this year ( yes, that includes Bieber). And that crying baby on that beat. WTF is that ?!

 

6. Bank Account - 21 Savage: Most boring and monotone Brag rap song of 2017. I dont understand why this is still top 20 on Spotify.

5. Body Like a Back Road - Sam Hunt : Biggest country song of the year...is someone referring a females body like a dirty unpaved road. Why? Just Why?

 

4. Gucci Gang - Lil Pump:  F this song. Worst rap song of 2017. Nothing else needs to be said

 

3.Thunder - Imagine Dragons: I'll continue the overrated but often picked on Believer on the ATRL forums but no way in hell am I defending this. This is just mindless. I dont hate repetition but when 65% of your song is the word Thunder, I have my limits. Let's see:

Dan Reynolds sounding the most annoying he's ever been. 100% Check

 

2. Issues- Julia Micheals:   Oh man, I had originally liked this song. I didnt download and streamed it but I head it only the radio  at the beginning of January and I thought it was sweet, looked up the artist, found out she  was part Latina and  rooted for her against ATRLers. Oh Julia I rooted for you for about a month....and then you performed at the Grammys and it was terrible. Then I heard the song again and realized what everyone esle already did: the chick can't sing for her life. And the song is an abuse victims guide 101. She talks about all the problems she and this guy has. And alot of back and forth between them. But she's willing to deal with all that cuz she NEEDS him. That's emotional abuse right there. But I wouldn't noticed all that if she knew how to sing. Please Julia go back to songwriting and stay there.

 

 

Btw if it was a hit...i would have picked Mo Bounce by Iggy Azalea. Career Dead....#1 next

1. Look What You Made Me Do - Taylor Swift: You had to see this coming. I mean come on. Even Swifites hate this song ( which btw please go get your girl, she's embarrassing herself). The fact it barely crack the top 40 for the year despite being a #1 hit can tell you enough. Man what can I say that hasnt been said a million times before since it's release ( The too sexy sample, the chorus being so monotone it makes me and everyone esle want to sleep, the sheer fact this is supposed be a diss track to Kanye, it sounds like 5 different songs, and her haters and it came out worse than Swish Swish did for Katy).  No, I'm just gonna focus one specific thing. The old Taylor is dead....except she's not. She's made a well better song addressing her haters ( Shake it Off) so doing the same song but more specific and sounding terrible isn't a change in personality. Addressing how crazy and messed up you supposed to be to your potential ( 50% of the songs on Reputation) isn't new either. What is new is that you went 2017's most anticipated artist to having possibly the worst critical reception in your career. And Swifites, yea she only experienced a minimum dropoff cuz she's Taylor Swift but if she doesnt change her sound to something better ( or End Game ends up being a flop), dont expect the lead from her next ablum to explode like this one.
